Delivery works out at £4.79 though...

Darkplanets still seems the cheapest.

Quote from mrodgers :Zero7, that looks very close to mine, except in that seat you should only see a glove box and the dash. The wheel and guages should be on the other side, LOL.

What you mean on the wrong side!!?

Quote from mrodgers :To me, it isn't about what you see/what you don't see, it's about proportion. You have to think when visualizing in your real car and scale it down to monitor size AND correct proportion. Those with anything 80 or above, the proportion is just so wrong. I don't see the mirrors out in front of me, they are to the side. I have to turn my head to look at them, therefore I shouldn't see them on the monitor as well unless turning my head. Same with any part of the doorpanel or passenger side of the car. They should not be in view on the monitor if you set the proportion correct.

Absolutely. In fact I was on Aston GP Rev (in the FXR) last night with this view and even though it's a low FOV it still felt very fast and the speed did feel closer to the real thing. The other thing that I couldn't do with this is reposition the mirror so it was in view (the mirror settings were at their max), so I had to resort to the virtual mirror which whilst showed who was behind me, it didn't truely represent where someone was as they tried to pass me on the inside. I'm not sure if this has been suggested as well, but an option to look 45 degrees left and right would be nice just so you can look in the wing mirrors (well, it would be useful for this type of view).

I was driving for a few hours today back home from work and like dan I also tried to visualise the LFS cockpit and how I could interpret the view I could see onto the screen. I came up with this and so far, it feels a lot closer to driving my own car (VW Touran - so I'm up quite high). You'll see that the view is slightly angled down so you can see some of the bonnet as well.

Anyway, each to their own and there isn't a right or wrong way, you just need to experiment and try a few different angles. This one is actually growing on me I have to say.

Interesting theory cvearl and when I started to think about it I could see what you were getting at. Now I drive in cockpit view (67 FOV), but tried experimenting with the view attached, which I think is what your suggesting, someone else posted something similar previously.

The only "problem" with this view is that you do need instruments displayed but to overlay these on top of your view is still unrealistic, IMO, hence the reason most people go for cockpit view with instruments visible.

Still, interesting theory. In the attached view, what you need is the ability to move the drivers head down and left to see the speedo to simulate the glance at the instruments. Something for the future perhaps?

edit: Just thinking a bit more about the moving head comment - I guess that's what TrackIR is for! Still, assigning a keystroke to move the head would be useful.

I've had the same problem. All I did was unzip my LFS download into another folder and ran that version to find out was the view settings were. Don't know if there is another way.

Quote from Moonclaw :Obviously better way would be to have them as spr or mpr, 100kB vs 10MB.

Possibly, but you can't add overlay's like spankmeyer has done or add any other effects. For instance different camera angles, pausing at specific parts of the tutorial e.g. cutting the apex, passing manoeuvres and so on.

These could be expanded to include track tutorials as well.

Quote from Bob Smith :

@Zero7 - where have you been hiding? never noticed anyone from round these parts before (well, apart from Gopher04)

Well Bob, I've only really been playing LFS for about 6 months or so and completely addicted! And yes, I'm from good 'ol Pompey as well mate!

Great stuff for beginners!

One suggestion would be to get a voice over reading the text on screen. I think this would give it more "involved" feel to the instructions. Hmmm, now there's a thought devs - willing to voice over?

Quote from Gabkicks :just get the dfp. . its much more fun and immersive to have to steer as much as you should have to. like with the GTRs i use 540 degrees lock so its a more realistic experience than 200 or 270

Yeah, I am leaning more towards the DFP. Just researching the intarweb thingy

Quote from deggis :Throw a coin.

Do you know what, why not, I might just give that a go

I'm toying with the idea of getting a wheel and like many people am tied between getting the DFP or Momo. However it seems that most people still favour the DFP over the Momo, but it also seems that some people don't use all the buttons on the DFP.

So I'm wondering is it really worth getting the DFP and go for the Momo with (arguably) a better grip and pedals and a better looking gear stick (IMO). The 900 degrees turning on the DFP sounds attractive, but again not many actually use it. Oh, decisions, decisions decisions!!!

Not in general for me. The only reason I use it is to preserve tyres (especially on the XFR) and for starts. I can floor it at the start in the FOX, let it spin and then the throttle help kicks in (a bit like traction control I suppose) and helps prevent the car from skidding sideways. It's still very tricky on the V8 which is why if you look at my stats on LFSW you'll see I don't generally drive that one. For example, my FOX on SO Classic is 2 seconds off the WR, still someway to go, but good mousers can keep up with the pack.

One of the tricks I find with the GTR's is to use the engine to brake through the corner, then hit the gas just past the apex. Tapping the buttons generally comes in when you're on a long sweeping bend (Kyoto especially). I still get a buzz even with this control method, but I'm eyeing up the DFP as a treat

Interesting Funnybear. Like you I've been using the mouse to control throttle/brake and the k/b for gears, so I might try swapping it over.

Quote from xgen :I am having a problem with the button reduction rate, I have it on the lowest setting possible and I still cant get a gradual start in the high power cars, does it make a difference if I use left or right click for throttle? I am using right for throttle and left for brakes, just like a real car, and still cant drive anything that has some power behind it without spinning out of control, the only way I can get most cars going is double clicking a bunch of time untill it speeds up.

This is very annoying and I cant enjoy all of the cars, I dont have the money for a FF wheel yet and this is all I have.

What I've found to help with this is to switch on the Throttle Help for most of the GTR's (except FXR) and the Single Seaters. The side effect of course is that off the line you can be stranded a bit, so you still need a few double-clicks thrown in there.

Sorry, slightly OT, but....

Quote from Hankstar :I still have the same squash ball I "installed" under the brake pedal too..

How much of a difference does adding the squash ball actually make to the brake feel i.e. how close to a real life brake is it?

I'm sure I've got a copy on my home machine. I'll take a look and post back.

IRC, I believe the author of this program (peep1980) said that there were some problems with it working with S2, not sure on the details.

I found this thread on the RSC forum which talks about the LFSMM2 : http://forum.racesimcentral.com/showthread.php?t=198663

edit: peeps posted the zip file in that thread here: http://forum.racesimcentral.co ... =2664692&postcount=76

Mouse definitely. I still use a mouse and you'll get far more precision with it over the keyboard. Just practice, practice practice. I can now just about control the single seaters with a mouse (you'll need an S2 license for those cars).

Some tips though when using the mouse with the XRT - set the button reduction rate (I think that's what it's called under the control section) to a low value, that way the acceleration increases more gradually and helps prevent wheel spin and the backend snapping out.

Quote from Kajojek(PL) :Thank you for this good opinion about me. Did you stay any longer on that server Zero7??? Was that idiot still doing it??? Ah yes, we had a lot of fun yesterday.

Yes, I stayed a little longer (have another replay) and yes he was still wrecking, sitting on the racing line etc. Didn't change his name funnily enough.

Quote from B2B@300 :I think you can still see the Lic name by Shift + Ctrl in the replay also so report him to the server admin and even the developers if you've got the evidence

Yes, I'll probably do that, once I've worked out the server we were on! Thanks for the player name tip guys.

I can confirm this as I was on the same server as Kajojek PL (even got the replay somewhere - auto save replay does come in handy every now and then ). Was a real pain in the ass and this person spoilt a lot of fun we were having.

Nice racing while we had it though Kajojek!!

Most people use Fraps - a registered version as this doesn't display fraps.com at the top of the screen and you can record longer than 30 seconds.
