Looking at http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/ with random dates in the next month or two it is showing tickets from London to Huddersfield costing around 15GBP for a 2.5 hour journey with 1 or 2 train changes.
For 115GBP you can probably get an InterRail ticket from http://www.raileurope.co.uk/ which is more than what you need and would probably get you home if you planned your journey carefully - I got from Paris to Istanbul with an InterRail 5 days in 7 days ticket for 120GBP.

When are you going? If your going this month then prices are high - you need to book tickets at least 1 month in advance otherwise it'll be very expensive on train.
A quick look for prices at the end of this month shows London > Huddersfield costing around 89GBP upwards. However if you don't mind taking separate trains you can do the journey for around 30GBP by going London > Nottingham for 9GBP and then Nottingham > Huddersfield for 18GBP.... plus that way you can visit Nottingham Castle and the Robin Hood Museum

Book well in advance or forget the trains. Buses suck IMO - you see more on the trains and they are normally quicker.... but without more specific information on your traveling (dates and times) I can't advise further.

How is that "amazing"?

The craftsmanship, time and ability to do something like that. No matter how crazy its creators are and how god awful the car is, it is still amazing.

Pidgin does support group conversations.

As for Messenger, version 5.1 that came with my XP64 works but only to a point. I was unable to send or receive files because of incompatibilities with newer versions. It will say it is trying to send the file but it doesn't alert the other user so they cannot accept it. If the other user tries to send a file their version of Messenger will tell them the other persons version doesn't support this feature.
So it works for basic conversations but does have issues. I don't know about group conversations with this version - I think it worked in the past but newer versions could have changed that too.

Introducing the Ferdinand GT3 RS
It is built using the ULC (ultra light construction) method. This car weighs less than 100KG with a top speed limited only by the driver's ability. It has "record breaking" low emissions.
If you like what you see then check out their website (link on YouTube video) for pictures of its construction. Some amazing stuff.
Enjoy

Quote from Timdpr :I assume I'm lucky as well. Is there an option somewhere to opt-in? And by the way, you're using Firefox without Adblock Plus? NERD RAGE.

I have never seen an option for it. I have tried looking for an option to opt out but didn't see anything.

I use the HOSTS file for ad blocking but recently it seems Google has changed the way their adverts appear so my Google entries in my hosts file are pretty much a waste now. Also I only installed Windows 7 two days ago and I am still in the process of tweaking it. So many new services to research and hopefully disable.

Are you buying some new pans too? I wouldn't bother with the Judge (Horwood) range of pans because in my experience the metal is way too thin and they warp easily even on low heat. Best to get cast-iron, pricey but worth it.

Quote from mrodgers :I see absolutely nothing on Google as you've described. Google looks no different than it has for years.

Apparently it is one of their "experiments". I think you are one of the lucky ones that hasn't automatically been subjected to it.
What is strange though is it is only there on Firefox but not Internet Explorer regardless of whether I am signed into Google or not. Deleting cookies doesn't help.

There is a Google support discussion about it here.

I've included a picture of it.

It doesn't look that different to me... just cleaner and slightly reorganised.

At least it is a lot damn better than the new Google search layout...has a new "Everything" sidebar down the left hand side of the search results and takes up 1/3 of the screen. It's horrible, it squishes your search results into this narrow table. Because on the other side of the page is Adverts that take up another 1/3 of the screen.
I am using Lycos now but I do prefer Google's all mighty search algorithms.

Ok, 1/3 is a slight exaggeration but using a screen with a 14 inch viewable area makes everything a little too small for comfortable reading. It must look horrible on a laptop screen.

Quote from Greboth :
Is it a fact he is slower than the other guy: yes.
Is it a fact he is black: yes - not racism.
Therefore it is fact the black guy is slower so nothing wrong with.

I agree.

Quote from DarkTimes :The question wasn't "describe the last guy who serviced the forklift", the question was "have you had this forklift serviced recently".

That is true. However in this instance I believe the extra information to be relevant.
In an environment that carries a high level of risk, for example the operation of industrial machinery of which subsequently developed a fault shortly after its service raises the question of competence of the individual of who serviced the machine. Even more so seeing as the wire was apparently "knocked off".

What if this gentleman services other machinery and that develops a fault? In this case I do not see how a description can be construed as racist especially when that description is fact and is used merely to identify an individual who could be lacking training by the fact that he took longer to complete the work than what would be expected of competent person (based on <a> usual chap takes two hours, and <b> mechanic also laughed about duration of work).

Quote from jibber :So where do "black" people come from? And what colour are the other ones (indian, pakistani, asian, etc)?

There are no other colours, only black and white.

In UK law 'discrimination on the grounds of colour, race, nationality, religious beliefs or ethnicity' is an offence.
To describe someone as "a black person" is not discrimination and hence not racist. If it were then a high percentage of official application forms would also be considered racist.

Xenophobia is more common than racism. Racism is a word that gets wildly thrown about with little consideration of its meaning. A lot of people that are labeled as racists are actually xenophobes and not racist.
Remember though, bashing those people that hold these beliefs will do very little to change their views... it should be educated out of existence.

It makes no sense opening LFS to modding until it is declared finished just in case of any incompatibilities with future patches. I wouldn't want my hard work being incompatible in six months time...

Then there is the question "will it be good for LFS (and not just individual people)?" or would it kill LFS with mass amounts of crappy mods that overshadow the few good ones?
If modding was an option then we would definitely need better server "-flags" and filters so that we can disable mods from the server list and order the servers based on the name of the mod.
Also the ability to download and auto-install the mod content direct from the server (as this saves time sourcing the mod else where - I'm lazy like that).

I'm not too bothered either way as long as I can filter out the modded servers if modding is allowed.

Modding suggestions got a lot of opposition in the past so it will be interesting to see what the common stance is now that LFS is apparently "dying"... due to peoples impatience with patches I must add.

A friend of mine who was doing his driving lessons told me he was having trouble getting it in gear. He'd go into 3rd instead of 1st or 2nd instead of 4th etc. I let him loose on LFS and explained how he should be gear changing with the flimsy G25 gear lever - by following the shape of the gate with smooth movements without forcing it across and essentially guessing and hoping it's in the right gear. A couple of days later after his next driving lesson he told me how the explanation and experience on "that game" helped him a lot, he no longer had trouble changing gear.

Also from personal experience, when I took my car off road a while back I experienced some severe under steer. My experience with LFS kicked in and helped me make a choice on how I should proceed to handle the situation - without that experience I would have been left to make a quick unexperienced decesion and hoped for the best.

Does it make you a better driver? I would have to say no.
Does it teach you techniques, concepts and driving theory? I would say yes to an extent.
Does it effect driver/driving behaviour? Define "behaviour". Are you talking drivers attitude towards driving or drivers reaction to certain events? I would say both are entirely dependant on the individual. Some may think they are god and do silly things while others may not. Some may utilise common strategies from their sim experience into real life situations while others may not.
A simulator can help your understanding but that is no substitute for real experience, and even then 20-30-40 years experience doesn't mean you are a good driver. In my opinion some drivers I have been with whose had years and years of experience are completely crap drivers - tunnel vision, lack of observation, tail gating, inconsiderate manuvering etc. Although, these people I consider crap drivers have a clean driving history and they consider themselves good drivers....

All this is dependant on the individual concerned. For some people a simulator can help, for others it can't. However regardless of that, experience has to come from somewhere.

Firstly I have been drinking, so I apologize if my post is more incoherent than usual.

I understand what you are saying, I too am a little disappointed. It just sickens me sometimes to see the reactions of this community.
I don't post that regular and my last post which displayed disgust I think is because I have had a bad day or two recently combined with attitudes of this community. I think this is why I fired off so quickly.

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I appreciate that, and I am sorry for any bad feelings caused. Sometimes some things need to be said...

We all have a common interest here, LFS, so I end with :grouphug:

There is obviously more involved than what has been said. Moving house is not just about packing and unpacking and then getting internet installed. There are a lot more complexities, solicitors, banks, utility services, critical house repairs to name a few.
To the people that are moaning about this... you are a bunch of ungrateful gits.
Oh "but we paid for LFS".. actually you paid for a license so you already have the product you paid for.
Scawen has a life too and maybe some of you should go out and live a little rather than revolving it around sleeping, eating, shitting and the development of LFS.

A speeding ticket or driving too slow?

This is something I found on my travels across the internet.

This kid was taking part in a street race and as he slowed down from 90MPH in 55MPH zone he was stopped by the police and given a ticket for driving too slow.
Have a look at his post and then have a look at post 4 (apparently from the police officer who issued the ticket).
http://www.orlandoforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=126522

What do you think? Hoax or real? Unfortunately the website loads a bit slow for me so I haven't had a good look through. Real or fake, I can't help but laugh. I do have to question the officers decision especially with what he (the officer) wrote.

Quote from dawesdust_12 :schweines should instead be swine.

Yes your right. Schweines is wrong too (I just babelfished it), it's schwein or plural as schweine apparently. Maybe I should have just written [content removed] instead or even better just written pigs in English. It's late and I've been drinking.

Anyway, as for my "catch" [PM sent]. For the rest of you, I'll let you work it out. It's quite simple.

[edit] Damn I still wrote pigs after you corrected me. The dictionary doesn't seem to have pigs, only pig. Bloody swine! [/edit]

A very good idea and annoying if you want to copy something but it does not stop people from transcribing the original.

Perhaps you should try something a little different. Anything that is subtle enough not to arouse suspicion... Useless schweines that have to copy someones work may not notice if you write it well. Look at what I have written... Hope it helps.

Quote from Jakg :Isn't that entrapment...?

Entrapment is not a defense known in English law as Lord Diplock explained in the case of R -v- Sang [1980] AC 402; "It is common ground that the test of the admissibility of evidence is relevance."
Therefore, the judge would have no power to exclude evidence simply because it emanated from the activities of an agent provocateur and "he has no discretion to refuse to admit relevant admissible evidence on the ground that it was obtained by improper or unfair means" (p. 437)

This is not the case with regard to confessions. Confessions must meet a "voluntariness" criteria. EG. "Confess to the crime and we will cut your jail term in half" does not meet the test of voluntariness and so the confession should be excluded in court; I cannot cite precedent as I have lost my references to the specific cases - I'm going purely on memory here.

In the past I never did consider the use of positives or negatives when speaking to people, I just didn't think about it. Now, I try and restructure the language I use, including my internal thinking and internal self talk into positives. I find, in myself, thinking and talking in positives helps me take control of situations that I didn't find easy. Now whether this is due to more experience in life or whether it is because now I have become aware of my own thinking processes I cannot say. What I do realize is that it works well for me and the best thing for anyone to do is what works well for yourself, isn't it?

The glass/bottle half full or half empty argument boggles me. It could be either depending on the purpose - are you filling the glass or emptying it? And then you can reverse the logic and it still makes sense.
Although there is one thing I can say and that is, don't click on this link.
