i'm currently having real issues with my H-shifter. it doesn't shift precisly at all anymore. a slight wobble on the stick in second often causes a shift to 4th. very annoying. it somehow feels like the stick itself is loose. is that possible?
also, using the H-shifter in up-down mode isn't crisp either. a bit of a down-push on the stick and the gears are jumping again.
lastly the reverse has stopped working, too. the wheel and pedals seem very solid and i'm happy with it but the shifter needs fixing.
i just put lfs on my new pc but cannot connect to the internet even though the firewall is off. on my other pc and anyone elses machine that never happened. other online games run fine.
i`m reading a lot about the g25 now and it seems that there are quite a few problems with it. i`d like to hear some general statements on whether you guys, who own one, think it`s worth the investment.
also, i`d like to know whether the pedals are compatible to the black momo wheel, which i have now. the black wheel itself i like a lot, just the pedals are crap. so if i`m spending all that cash on a g25 that might not work as expected, at least i could compensate by hooking the pedals to my black momo wheel.
i understand what you are saying but personally i disagree. to me a race is a race. driving more or less aggressively has not much to do with clean and fair driving per se. i want to finish the race, i want to take home the points. if someone races without any consideration for other drivers simply because there are only a few laps to go i call that unsportive and reckless behaviour as well as outside race rules. brainless driving is never required or acceptable no matter the skill level or race length.
being able to accurately evaluate ones own ability to execute demanding maneuvers succesfully is obviously a tricky thing :-)
@ angry angel:
personally i'd rather race on a 6 people server where everyone drives fair than on a 23 people server which is a crash-fest.
i'm driving pretty much daily but don't notice any real efforts to encourage people to drive properly. kick-voteing and bad language are pretty much the only actions that are being taken.
@notanillusion:
so you have you tried that already? how did it work? an admin schedule can be something very flexible. for example i'm posting that tomorrow i'll be admin on server xyz from 2000 until 2200.
regarding volunteering:
lots of people spend endless hours skinning or improving setups for the benefit of others. therefore i'm quite certain that a fair number of people would actually volunteer as race judge/admin. certainly there are people out there who, instead of just whinging and complaining are also willing to do something.
i just had this idea and would like to hear some opinions on it:
since most everybody complains about common bad driver behavior (the dreaded T1 scenes) on public servers why not establish a race schedule where teams who host servers provide an admin to keep things clean? that obviously requires a sacrifice of time of the individual admin since he won't race himself. but even if an admin volunteers for only an hour, if one would know when he is on and cares about fair driving then this server will surely receive some influx. if a couple of people volunteer some time per week then throughout the week one would have the possibility to race on a clean server. these servers, i simply assume, would be reasonably populated which would also have the side effect that drivers would get the benefit of some education regarding driving rules, behaviour etc.
if this schedule is published in a thread then everyone who cares can have a look and knows when and where an admin is on duty. i think that would be a fairly painless and easy way to improve the quality of races and establish the participating server/team as a contributing part of the community.
since i obviously won't expect anyone to watch over races for an hour/s i hereby volunteer to do just that if anyone wants me to.
what's so stupid about his idea? noone was talking about a driver who does the ultimate pace in all cars either. maybe its stupid because you wouldn't be nominated by your team?
i'm always amazed how often people get slagged off for simply voicing an opinion or asking a question. some attitude, indeed.
if the first goal is to finish the race and the second goal to win it then there won't be so many useless and brainless now-or-never maneuvers and increasingly fair driving which definitely the majority of drivers will enjoy more.
just look at league races. if that works during 1-3 hour races why should it be different during a 5-10 lap race?
if you run up on a slow car make sure you stay close throughout the corner then accelerate and you'll overtake out of the slipstream in time before the next corner. the slow driver doesn't need to do anything at all. this maneuver is obviously more demanding than simply braking later as staying close behind a car throughout a corner ain't that easy. so why blame another driver for ones own shortcomings?
driver conduct
verbally attacking a slower driver is simply uncalled for and unfair.
something else i do notice all the time is that the really fast guys (within 1 sec of wr) rarely lose their temper. it's the midrange wannabees doing average laps of 2-3 sec slower than wr who get all wound up. an observation i do find amusing.
to all those who hate running up on another car i recommend taking a chill pill and working a bit on driving technique. racing includes faster AND slower cars.
i understand what you're saying. but what you do is write your own rules which is probably o.k. for your own server. i'm talking about the commonly accepted version of it as it is being found on all other servers (i admit i never went on your server as i don't drive in ovals).
and the issue of hotlaps and drafting is definitely deserving its own thread.
what i find quite bizarre is when people during public races get all fussed about being held up by traffic on their way to a new pb. the whole point of racing is to drive with others. if one expects to set pb's why not do hotlaps instead, or join a server all by yourself if you want to cut across the grass?
this situation escalates in a rather strange interpretation of the "blue flag" rule where most of the faster drivers seriously assume the slower car has to basically clear the track in front of them. and here i may refer to the sticky:
so, when you are being lapped you DO NOT have to shift-S or drive into the gras while going round a corner. i very rarely see a driver purposefully disobeying the blue flag, instead i see many drivers attacking the slow guys for not moving out of the way quick enough.
so, let's just give us all a break and enjoy racing each other.
bloody hell, i always walked right past, thinking it's some crappy ps2 gimmick
quick question, are the pedals as shitty as the momo ones with these endless pot/spiking problems??
since recently i have the problem of advertisments popping up while online. this interrupts the race and i crash.i tried 2 adware/spyware programs but they didn't remove that shit.
any other info that could solve this annoying problem?
well, actually we don't, as noone else was making any requests for it. this here is the same as the case with crossing the yellow line during piting where one driver got a time penalty after a protest, 10 other drivers didn't because there was no protest against those. so, obviously, any claims or protests are only case specific. "Vote is open for 24 hours after it has been posted and every driver has vote", therefore noone from race 1 can come up with any claim or ptotest now.
understandably you don't watch the replay of every driver, therefore only reported cases are being considered. now i reported a specific case and was asking for consideration. isn't that exactly what you want?
x-ter, if you say
I sure wish BurnOut could have his points
then there surely should be a possibility to let all drivers vote in this specific case. that's all it would take to do in my opinion.
if i would file 15 protests about all drivers of the last race who didn't have the required DTM-numberplates on their cars or their driver name written in the required color (the 3 leaders of the series) would those have to be considered? or would you deem such protests ridiculous and disregard them? well, i would. i regard such protests just as ridiculous as that protest about a driver crossing a yellow line. the difference there was that that was the only way to get to that race winner. x-ter, you know what i'm talking about here (see that one email i once sent you), therefore i will not go into that here again.
there is a double standard applied here. if we stick to the exact words of rules only when it pleases us or serves our interests but in other cases feel lenient enough to bend or even disregard them then seemingly something goes rather wrong. not, of course, in the eyes of a driver who is gaining from such a procedure.
anyway, i made my case here and that's enough said from my side. i'll be focusing on preparation for the next race now.
...and i hope i won't forget to put the DTM-plate on my skin again
