Quote from mcintyrej :A similar term is used in the decomposition of Radioactive waste and other such substances.

"Half-Life" (guns and aliens not included)

You're right but that has nothing to do with the situations presented by Achilles etc. All a half life is, is the amount of time it takes for half of a substance to decay. Resulting in an infinitely small part of that substance.

Yes i know of all those paradoxes, but your grammar and structure is so bad that i don't know what your point is.
I'm guessing that you want to know if other people believe it. well....simply put, i don't lol. It doesn't make sense and there is a simple explanation for it. Take the tortoise one for example. Get your friend, put him 100 feet in front of you, tell him to walk at slow speed while you run at a fast speed. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that you will eventually catch up to, and overtake your friend. (Applies to racing also =D)

Quote from MRSisson :Once, a long long time ago, I parked in a handicap spot when on delivery. There was nowhere else to park. Got a $75 ticket. Learned me good to never do that again.

I have sometimes held onto the metal bar they put into hotel showers when severely hungover.

I have walked up the ramps instead of stairs, if the ramp was closer; so there goes your theory of 'they just slow you down'.

So, yeah, I have used them.

But never a parking spot ever again.

i can't tell if hes being sarcastic or not but either way, funny as hell

how can manual clutch be faster? You have to push it in, then shift. With autoclutch, you push one button and it does everything for you. Can someone please explain what they mean?

tgood one

You know you've played too much LFS when you tap the curb while parking, and send you and your car 30 meters in the air

Quote from simma :Like in a accident; some ppl freak out, some goes to "hero-mode". Hard cold truth is that someone is better at something, whereas someone sucks (like me)

If you can race without problems and anxious attacks, great Good for you.
But one thing is that we are many and we have many persona's. And for that someone might get "anxious attacks" while racing LFS, but still be a great driver IRL.

Closing speech, anyone?

yea that is true that we are all different but i just can't understand getting nervous over a game. To each his own i guess.

Quote from simma : Missed that one.

It seems that he gets too much information and cannot focus at driving. He's thinking the curves, throttle, steering ratio, braking, speed and also ppl behind/front of him. That can be overwhelming when not as experienced as pro racer.
Information overload, so to say But that goes away by racing and with more experience. The brain adjusts to the situation and learns how to handle with all the information (what to keep, what to neglect)

maybe there is somethign wrong with me then lol. i've never gotten that nervous while playing a video game

Quote from simma :Hmm, has anyone said that he/she has had an anxiety attack? Speed readed thru the thread and found only that someone says that get a couple of beers to losen up, for not being so anxious.

Quote from Loveless :... it seems extremely difficult for me even stop freaking out. .... An immense amount of pressure just came over me, I race with a Mouse and Keyboard by the way, my hands would not move like i wanted it too....
Any tips on how you guys get ready for these kinds of events or relieve yourself from this anxiety?

it sounds like hes pretty anxious to me...

Quote from Nine :Idea here is performance, everyone is out racing to perform to their best. I know I don't get in my car to go to work and say to myself everytime, remember what I learned and I'll do my best, because it's casual driving, your not performing. In a race in LFS, your trying to be #1, your taking everything you learned and putting into one race to COMPETE and PERFORM to the best of your abilities among others doing the same, you don't do that on the highway at 75. It all goes back to competition and with my background in sports, everyone gets nervous before a big event, it's just how you handle it.

All in all, you can't compare LFS online racing to real world driving, it's two completely different concepts.

i understand your argument and i too get nervous before a sporting event that i'm participating in but i still can not seem to understand how a video game justifies anxiety attacks?

Quote from drinklime :one time i was playing N2003 online, and I remember I was having an amazing race, and I ended up in 1st or second place on the last lap. I started to get so nervous, the feeling was so intense that my muscles started to get so tense, and my leg couldnt even keep the gas pedal floored, it started to twitch so bad that my foot was moving up and down on the pedal. i was like, wtf, and i couldnt control it. its weird what the mind can do sometimes.

.........i can understand getting nervous, losing concentration for a split second and making a dumb mistake but not being able to control your leg?

Quote from the e rocker :The thing is... people get more nervous playing live for speed than on roads because on live for speed you are driving at your limit and if you go slightly over it you are going to take somebody out and ruin their race, in real life you are driving way below your limit and there is very little chance you are going to crash ( although accidents do still happen)

so it is very unlikely you will get people as nervous on real roads

you forgot about merging traffic, idiots that can't drive period. road hazards, blind spots, the list goes on. more could go wrong in real life than in a sim

edit: WHat i was directing my statements at was the fact that he said he "Froze up" and his hands wouldn't do what they wanted him to. FOR EXAMPLE: If he is on an entrance ramp merging into traffic moveing at 75 mph and he "freezes up" while i happen to be next to him, it isn't going to be pretty. What if there is an accident in front of him and he "Freezes up."

I know everyone is probably reading this saying, "What a jerk that guy is" but seriously, everyone needs to think about whats going on. This person is have anxiety attacks over a racing simulator. I don't know about nayone else but from my perspective, his reactions are childish, immature and unjustified.

the point is this. grow up and get over it, its a damn game, you aren't going to die or get hurt or any of your other stupid fears. Jesus, what i'm more worried about is having people like this drive on the same roads that i do. If someone gets nervous in their own home in front of their own comp, how are they going to react on the highway doing 75?

Quote from mrodgers :What a bunch of BS. I can fly a 747, yup, I sure can, yessiree, just give me a chance.....

Actually, I'm fairly confident after talking to others who are pilots or have flown with friends, that I could probably fly a Cessna with an instructor or other experienced pilot friend next to me. Unless Kev is in the back seat trying to "feel me" thinking I was something that I'm not...

Cessna's are completely completely different. My friend has his pilots license and he took me up once and with only my FS experience, i could fly, navigate, turn etc etc. There is so much more to a 747 then you would think. ALthough i'm sure it would be possible to fly it around, keep it on course etc.

Quote from wheel4hummer :How else would you drive? lol

my point was that if you have driven any car, truck, atv (yes i know they don't have pedals), go kart, golf cart, etc. you should have that feeling

Quote from Electrik Kar :But if you were actually in that position, I'm not sure how well you'd do (edit: hahaa, this sounds really funny as a reply to Kev's post!). I thought the same thing about old bodyboarding videos, watching guys out at Pipeline or somewhere really heavy. When they do it, it looks easy, so you think you can do it too. But when actually offered the same scenario, things will probably be a lot harder than they look.

i never said you would be able to do what they do, i said you know what they are doing... if the guy starts sliding in a left hand turn you know he is counter steering, letting off the throttle, (unless this is a drift show ). its like airline pilots. if you've played flight simulator you know what the pilot is doing while rolling down the runway, easing up throttle, keeping the plane straight, pulling back on the stick etc etc. Doesn't mean that if i put you in a 747 you would be able to fly it

if you've ever driven a vehicle with a steering wheel and pedals, you most likely know what the guy is doing in the video. also since you play lfs and probably have spun out more than once, you know how to correct and what the guy is doing inside his car. you know how the wheel feels in a spin and when they spin on tv, you are just recognizing what is going on. doesn't seem that strange or hard to understand to me..

i too, watched the race.spr. There are 2 things i think you should focus on. Widen your track much more than you are now. You seem to be cutting the corners way too much. Especially in the turn after the straight. Start up high to the left, drop down, hit apex, and when you come out, you want to be on the left side grates.
Secondly, take your corners faster, this will naturally come when you make use of the whole track. Other than that, good job, keep driving =]

It has a large population, and overall a welcoming and intelligent one.
Yeah, the exchange of opinion gets heated sometimes but bloody hell, this would be a boring place otherwise.

I think the mods do a great job of standing in the background and only intervening when absolutely necessary.

Heavily modded forums sh1t me to tears. This isn't a classroom!

I have a 17 year old friend who insists on taking a nap. He consistently chooses to do so, seemingly, for no reason at all. He does not have a disease and is not sick and does not suffer from sleep deprivation.

Is taking a nap when you are 17 years old lame? Yes/No
