Don't bother with 7zip and just burn 3 CD's. If zip only achieves a ~5% reduction in filesize, you can be sure the files are heavily compressed already and other compression tools won't do significantly better.

Did you end the auction early?

Good call actually. If the calibration isn't fixed and you move the wheel quickly, the pot could spike beyond the original calibration range and mess it up. Using fixed calibration in LFS could cure it.

If all else fails, use autohotkey(.com) to map the wheel buttons to a keyboard key. The scripting language is very simple.

Joy1::Send 7

would send a 7 key-press whenever you hit button 1 on the wheel.

Quote from overclocked412 :You must be using a browser that doesn't support thumbnails. They appear fine, they are clickable thumbnails, no fixing needed.

Displaying images inline is deactivated by default in this forum, so people who didn't change this (like me) will only see links to the thumbnails.

Ouch, that's low.

Exactly. If a higher boost setting results in quicker spool-up, then your wastegate opens too early.

Quote from MAD3.0LT :and as for turning up boost = faster spool time ill give u a example

say u run ur car on 7 PSI and it hits that at around 6,000 RPM if u up the bost to 15 PSI its gonna hit 7 PSI way befor 6,000 RPM and 15 PSI at about 6,500 RPM so in a sence it spools up quicker but to get to its max power it will take longer but will have way more power in the end

No. It would still only hit 7 PSI at 6000 rpm, the boost would just continue to climb after that, so it would hit 15 PSI eventually (assuming you're running a proper wastegate).

Why was this moved or did I post it in the wrong section?

Oh, I didn't mean the car. MHR is just what the default ranking is called:
http://www.blinkerfluid.net/mhr.jpg

Click on "Nutter" and you get the full 858 track ranking.
Upgrade notice for people running older patches.

Considering this thread: http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=8554 and the fact that there are still a number of people on demo and S2 servers using patch Q, it seems like it would be a good idea to poll the master server for the current version and display a little upgrade notice if a mismatch is detected (for incompatible patches at least).

It seems like there are some people out there which don't keep up with the latest patches or don't know about the compatible/incompatible patch system, so a brief explanation of the situation would probably be useful, otherwise players trying an outdated demo would only presented with a handful of hosts/players and would likely make false assumptions about the online activity.

That's just the MHR (main hotlap rank). You can select the "Nutter" ranking on the top left, which includes all 800+ tracks.

Quote from Peteuplink :well it's definately my joystick that's slowing me down, cos I just played GP4 and couldn't get anywhere near my personal best. My joystick isn't going full forward so I can't acclerate as fast as a should. And since I can't afford a new joystrick for a while I wont be racing on LFS for at least 2 weeks

Just don't move it all the way forward while calibrating. That way it'll give you 100% throttle even though there's still a bit of travel.

Quote from LeeLee :Oh right. That was the only spr file available in the spr folder. Those are where the hotlaps are stored, right?

If I upload my hotlap does that mean my racer stats update with the my fastest time in the hotlap? Right now it says my fastest is 1.37, when I did 1.36 in my hotlap.

Did you save your hotlap?
Either hit escape and click replay or press 2 and enter a file name.

The one you posted is a single player race, not a hotlap.

Just post the .spr here so we can see what's up with it.

The response time of the monitor doesn't really matter. I'm using a 19" LCD with like 18ms, get around 30fps and I'm doing ok. I remember pbu mentioning that he gets like 25fps or so...

Maybe the steering settings were just a little different on your friends computer.

Quote from AdamW :Makes sense, but it's also quite good for us newbies, one less thing to worry about. Threshold braking over the crest of that hill is a pain.

Threshold braking with the XFG isn't faster, no matter the controller or skill level (at least at Blackwood). For corners that can take a little more braking, just shift down a bit earlier.
Since it's FWD and does pretty much all of its braking with the front wheels, varying the shift times has the same effect as threshold braking but is MUCH more consistent and much less likely to cause lockups (locked diff).

When you download LFS, all files are packaged in one big zip file. You're supposed to unzip this file to extract these files into their own directory.

When you just click on the zip file on your desktop and try to open lfs.exe directly, WinRAR extracts all of those files into a temporary folder and after it's finished runs lfs.exe. When you close the game, WinRAR deletes the temporary folder containing the extracted game.

This is also why it takes so long to start (zip file has to be extracted every time you try to launch the game) and why you have such trouble up- and downloading files (cause there's no LFS folder on your harddrive).

Just right-click LFS_S2_ALPHA_U.zip and select "Extract to LFS_S2_ALPHA_U/". This will create a folder named "LFS_S2_ALPHA_U" and the game files will be extracted to there. Then delete LFS_S2_ALPHA_U.zip.

You can either leave the folder on your desktop or move it to wherever on your harddrive by right-clicking the folder and using cut/paste.

Your PC is fine, it's just your line through the S. Here's your lap compared to MacEST's:

Before the S, you're only 10m back (which you lost in the first sector):
http://www.blinkerfluid.net/afs1.JPG

At the end of the straight after the S you're 18m back:
http://www.blinkerfluid.net/afs2.JPG

And here's where you lines differ (red is you):
http://www.blinkerfluid.net/afs3.JPG

You just don't use enough road, which means you have to steer more, so you lose 2km/h at the exit of the S.

Quote from Peteuplink :I've actually just found that my stick isn't going fully forward, this is what is causing my slow acceleration. I found this out by recalibrating when I got back from work and noticed that the stick is stopping just befor full forward deflection. if I force it it will go to full forward, but I;m scared that it will eventually snap or something.

Just recalibrate the stick and do not move it all the way forward while calibrating. That way the game will see 100% throttle even though you have a few millimeters to go still. Also make sure you move the stick slooowly when calibrating. Quick movements will cause the pots to spike.

The way I see it he should have left room in the chicane while you should have avoided Speedy in the first lap and Dazjz in the second to last corner of the last lap. If you weren't able to avoid him, you should have let him retake his position before finishing.

That would be loading it in the wrong direction then. As for Kimi, he had one suspension failure due to fatigue (drove around with a flatspotted tire for like half an hour) and one due to improper manufacturing (metal end-link came unbonded).

Tristan, have you ever seen a bent carbon fiber control arm? If you damage CF, it snaps, and since this does not happen in F1 races, the only conclusion can be that cornering does not damage the suspension.

Fatigue (flatspotted tires), loading in the wrong direction (collisions) and improper manufacturing causes suspension failures, but not cornering.
