I don't know if there is any current interest with this application, but I was wondering...

I have been making lots of sounds for rFactor mods for personal usage and I wanted to convert some of them for usage in LFS.
But the way this user interface is made makes it very hard.

My main problem being that I don't know how to rpm-match the samples. For instance when I have audio sample of engine on steady 4000 rpm, how do I tell for the CSR mixer that it is recorded at 4000 rpm, so when it plays it at correct speed mathing to the real rpm of the car in LFS? Since I only can change the sample rates I have no clue how to match the rpm value. This results in rpm miss matches when two samples join, which I could describe sounding like a badly tuned guitar.

rFactor has a nice system where you tell the game the actual rpm of the sound sample and the rpm area I want it to played at (for example 4000 rpm sample played in between 2000 and 6000 rpm). With this information rF can match it nicely, playing the same sample half speed at 2000 and 1.5x speed at 6000 rpm.

I can ear tune my samples to match each other in Goldwave, but when I need to play with the sample rates like in CSR I find it very confusing and can't get a decent end result.

If anyone is still developing this application I would strongly suggest to get rid of the sample rate stuff on the user interface and go for the rpm mathing way.

I have noticed youtube being full of CSR sounds with rpm miss matches so I suspect I'm not the only one experiencing this problem.

Well the "real time" thingy is stupid in the first place so no point playing if it's not possible to adjust time somehow.

We are currently playing so that when we finish a session we want to keep going from the same point, so if we have finished at 14.00 game time the next time we play we set the clock to 14.00.

Otherwise we would be playing only at night.

Ah the solution was pretty simple after all. Server host just changes the timezone in his Windows before starting the server.

How does restart help if the time of day always sets at the real time of the server location?

Is there any workaround for the server clock time? We are playing on private server with friends, so would be really good to be able to adjust the time how we want. Currently playing in mid night.

Dear god I thought this was dead. Last update I heard was when in 2009 it was "about to be released very soon".

Definately going to try this out.

Maybe it doesn't work for everyone, it's a psychological effect of some sort I guess. I myself clearly hear a "thud" everytime the electric pole lands.

Quote from AndRand :Easy... xray scan the jumping electric pole structure and match using shape recognition the shape changes with sounds it gives. Then you dont need to mike it, it doesnt need to jump because even then the structure is moving therefore you hear the sounds it gives anyway.

I understood none of this explanation so I'm still baffled about the effect it gives. Don't need to see it more than with a corner of my eye and it still works.

Quote from danthebangerboy :I dont mate, it is a standard diff that has been welded up, the previous owner had it done a few months ago, by the same guy who welded my mx5 diff up actually, oh how i have missed tight corners at low speeds, skip scrub skip lol

Tyre use is certianly going to be an issue due to all the scrubbing tho, and with 235/40/17 rubber, could get expensive, may drop down to 215/45, the same as the front has on.

Ah ok I somehow understood it was a proper LSD. I have also considered about welding the current diff, but will probably end up waiting a bit more and get the LSD one installed. Welded would be fun, but don't know if I want to sacrifice the turn-in in an already understeery car.

Seems like you have a good working limited slip unit there so if you end up putting the open diff back I'll be very surprised.

Quote from Klutch :Never driven a powerful RWD car in the wet with a welded diff, have you?

No but with open diff yes. It's a little annoying because usually only one tire spins and when the other gets going too it can make a quite sudden movement to left or right. Entertaining still tho...

I would much prefer the predictability of locked diff, you know it's going to kick sideways and it's easier to toy around with the rear end when it does. I can already do that a bit with my open diff on dry asphalt because of suprisingly good tires (smooth grip loss curve) but on more drastic situations it doesn't always do exactly what I want (get sideways or does it very suddenly).

Quote from danthebangerboy :Makes my 2.8 with 190 hp sound pretty pants by comparison, altho the previous owner did have it rolling roaded with a result of 202hp, although by his own admission it wasnt running right then, i know its plenty quick enough for me as it is anyway, it hasnt rained since i have had it though, which could prove interesting, as it has a 2.5l locked diff in there at the moment, although will probably end up changing it back to the 2.8 standard item if it proves too twitchy.

If anything a (working) locked or limited slip differential makes the car more stable. There's no sudden changes in which one of the rear wheels is slipping.
I can say my car feels plenty twitchy sometimes mainly because it has decent power but open diff (gonna change the diff tho).

Quote from sinbad :I think one of your fellow Finns posted this already, but I should add that I was happy to be reminded to watch it again.

Just awesomely aggressive and on the very edge everywhere. Some of those top gear sections are about the most spectacular bits of automotive footage I have ever seen.

How sad that "progress" in rally technology has led us so far from such action at the top level. WRC should pay attention to what a show these drivers can put on in the right machinery.

Yeah I posted it earlier, tho no harm posting again such good footage.

This is an older video, but with better camera / position. Just shame it ends so quickly (and how).

Quote from kars19 :but no heel & toe

WRC drivers have not learned it with their 'automatic throttle blipping' flappy paddle gearbox http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGk1p3-3kgY

Tommi u no heel & toe to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_7gax_TFlU

On gravel heel & toe isn't usually needed because it doesn't make the car unstable like in paved surface. Or more like it does, but especially on RWD cars it actually helps to make it turn in better.

I have to admit still I'm a little surprised Tommi wasn't using heel & toe in Norschleife, but maybe he didn't feel it was needed with an 4wd car.

Even modern wrc drivers have to learn very advanced foot techniques so learning heel & toe shouldn't be a problem really.

How do you define a drift car? Maybe it was originally built for drifting, but if it is modified for Pikes Peak then it hardly has anything to do with drifting anymore.

If you have a good adjustable suspension in your car, you can tune it to be good for racing or drifting. For drifting you just make it very oversteery.

In example XRT in LFS has a pretty remarkable suspension setup when it comes to the adjustability. It's still not a drift car unless you tune it for it (make rear very stiff = oversteer). Or you can tune it differently for racing.

I think i have to get rid of it, my dad didn't really appreciate the fine russian cars that they make.

Your dad probably hasn't yet recovered from the Lada tuning phenomena of the 90's/early 2000.

Nowadays these are getting pretty rare and driving one around makes people turn their heads.

Finally the ECU is mapped so I can just enjoy driving it.
271 bhp and 332 Nm so I'm quite happy being that I already knew the injectors wouldn't be able to break 300 bhp.

Few accelerations on video http://youtu.be/wRLHxyh4gwA

Quote from Klutch :Sounds nice, screamer piped?

Of course.

Quote from BAMBO :That's such a cool Pinto :lovies3d: Always loved the old school sound they make. Keep at it because it looks like it's going to turn out pretty interesting

Yeah I'm not planning on selling it any time soon. If it ever reaches a point some might call ready, I'm gonna enjoy driving it.

Thanks for the nice comments. I'm quite happy too already. Seems to pull as good with 0.5 bar of boost as it did year ago with almost double the amount.

lol the seat is just something I got offered after putting a wanted ad on a Finnish Cossie forum. It's someones own made and was "rescued" from a "field car".
BTW the steering wheel is very retro, it actually has a date of 9/78 stamped on it and I believe it might be original Momo Prototipo. Something I accidentally stumbled on the net and happened to be really cheap too.

Oh also like your car. I've always had a thing for the 924/944 range Porsches even if they're not the "one" 911.

The turbo looks actually quite much bigger in pictures than IRL. It's a Garrett (well a chinese made copy) T34 with .48 ex housing, so 350 bhp is probably a maximum for it. Some people claim close to 400 bhp with it but I'm sceptical about those numbers and even if they would be true I guess the life time of the turbo would be very much compromised.

And yes it's a 2.0 Pinto. Cossie bottom end + Pinto head.

300+ bhp, altho for this summer 250 should be fine, for next summer I'm going to put bigger injectors and intercooler and stuff like that so should be 300+ easily if I just dare to boost it enough.

Hopefully your Capri will be on road with the BOA soon, should be very lovely combination.
