You understand it correctly, and the resistances would play a role if we were talking about distance of travel, or speed of travel. But does it play a difference with the engine at the same RPM. Essentially the engine is doing the same thing, the transmission is doing different things. The transmission does not use fuel, just takes the engine output and converts.
Now, the kicker comes into play with engine load. You can rev to 7000 and keep it there in first a lot easier than in 5th. Because of resistances. So does this extra load on the engine require more fuel, I would say most likely. Least it makes sense to me.
Be just like a peddle bike, in lowest gear you can only peddle so fast before your feet fall off. For giggles lets call that 7000rpm. Then you change the gears to the highest and do the same thing. But as soon as you slow down your legs have a load on them and you need push harder again. This is where more fuel/energy would be used. But assuming a magical world where you could actually keep your legs at that speed, (or the car engine), then it might be using the same fuel.
My bet is that 5th gear will run out of fuel sooner (time-wise) because it will have more load on the engine running at 7k where as even if the engine is running at 7k in first, it won't have the same load.
What would making LFS multi-core do if your limiting yourself by running Fraps? In anycase it sounds like a memory bottle neck if it happens when recording in full resolution. Capturing and saving the video data on the fly has always been memory intensive.
How does LFS run without Fraps? Sure it might suck that you can't record in full resolution, but how do you think this is fault of LFS? Maybe I read your post wrong, but I read it twice to be sure. I don't see how LFS being multi-core would help your specific problem. Make sure _nothing_ is running, including as many background processes except for LFS and Fraps - sometimes that can help loads.
* I would like to see LFS become threaded, but that is not an easy job in any sense. I don't want to hear "its been done in X, Y and Z", as those products were built around threading in mind - LFS hasn't been and just adding it isn't as simple as bolting on a new intake or something.
Wouldn't you mean Server side? It is possible to do it through each of the clients, but I don't think that is a very good way to do it... Server side is the way most of these things work, and it could be a pain to get all the racers to download / install and run this tracker on their side when it could just run on the server.
It isn't "demo' or "s1" or even "s2" (or future) "s3" limitations on a member that makes them do good/poor quality work. A lot of it is experience, effort, dedication and motivation to do a good job.
I can't say that it was a bad video, the effect was pulled off in a nice way. Though it would have been better with some more LFS action, and camera movement. Sure that would have required more work with the billboard, and putting the movie in the right place, but it would have been nice to see some cars - and movement from the camera, anyways- nice job.
I guess I'm the first not to agree with anything. There were some episodes that I felt were 'out there' 'off' or whatnot, but in general I'd have to say I'm sad I can't look forward to a next season. I think near the end things started getting slippery but Season 1,2,3 were great. 4 was harder as they introduced new concepts - for better or worse, but it still stayed interesting. In anycase, I enjoyed most of the series and celebrate that it ended before being slowly run down.
EDIT: Though this wasn't a series you could really skip a several episodes and think you can keep up. It was one of the very few series that continue from episode to episode with a main storyline.
Accusations of plagiarism and not including a license are on far different scales the way I see it. It is a case of simply forgetting, on the license where as plagiarism is known. One can be accidental while the other is certainly on purpose. You can't take back what you've done, but Dygear deserves a huge apology for claiming plagiarism over not including a license...
I am quite shocked that this was what it was about.
I understand, but really I don't see why you think you need to defend yourself, there has yet to be more than an accusation. It is only he said/she said... I'm not saying I would back off either, because I'd be down right upset if someone made remarks about my character like that - especially without direct proof.
Post the code that is in so much question of plagiarism. There are only so many ways that you can write "x = x + 1" in code. But really, back up your claims, with some solid proof. I'm not picking sides, I do have a bias towards one, but I will always remain open minded about anything/anybody. So please if you actually have proof post it.
I'm not offending / defending anyone, but I don't appreciate hearing anyone is a plagiarizing without; direct evidence and facts. Not to mention this shouldn't be here. Switch to PM's guys and let this thread contain what it is meant to. If there really is a problem with plagiarism, (which I do doubt), then Dygear, or mods would be able to close it. But until then don't dirty up the thread.
Gahh! I was getting excited for the deal only to read that it was well over . . . (Not that I have the money for a server at this time but still would have been a good. And yet I see it is out of date. Then the reason it is out of date made it even worse. There are other places to get support- this thread is not it. That is just rude.
Look in the header files, do some searching. I mean, sure there are tools out there for the auto typing "lazy" behavior. This is my opinion, though I don't look down on people using this stuff, I do disguise it because it makes too many people rely on the feature. Point proven here. Just start with the main .h files, and see what gets included.
Good luck, and I can't really help with the project specific stuff because I don't use it. So sorry I can't give a direct header file to look at, but you must be including it somewhere, so start there.
EDIT: Forgot to mention, the first place to look (which I hope you have), IF AVAILABLE, is some form of ReadMe, or other documentation that may come with the library, or code. Again I don't know the specifics of this library.

But looks does not make something better, not even close. I'm not holding my breath for the patch, but when it comes out I will try it. 1.5 years of development, while a long time - and could be better in some cases - is not drastically unreasonable.
I've been holding off posting in this thread, but had to now. The developers do not owe us anything. They stated in the license you (that may or may not have) bought, that you are buying the product AS IS. Meaning they could stop development and you can't complain. Yet, they work a little extra to make something their quality and people complain about development times among other things.
I don't want to say I agree with the developers or would take a bullet for them, but as a developer myself I understand constraints - and that things take large amounts of time. Even when you know exactly how to do it, can do it anyway you want and have loads of free time. Scawen has a family, a life and has stated he's had issues thinking of a proper way to do this without major side-effects. Let alone he can't just develop it the way he wants because it needs to fit in with the current LFS engine/code base. And to make things more difficult on magnitudes that I can't imagine, he is going to try keeping the feel of the game at least somewhat the same, as to not shock the users.
I'm not saying it is right to keep the community hanging, but in the end it is their opinions and decisions that ultimately matter. They aren't out for money, and they put their heart into the project - that will keep me coming back, even if I take a break from time to time.
But to sum what I just said up; Have fun with Racer!
I prefer the streamlined 'spam esc' to quit. Although typically I use "/exit" or alt-f4, depending on my mood. But I can say, I would be annoyed if /exit or alt-f4 asked me if I was sure it was what I wanted to do. I mean, rarely have I pressed it without meaning to.
But it would get old quick answering the age old question "are you sure you want to do that". Of course I am you stupid computer, I just did it!
Without yet watching the video, someone posting a thread needs to be open to any opinions by others- it makes a forum. Then there are the possibilities of bringing facts into play as well. Now I will go watch the video when I get home, but if people can't handle someone stating their opinion on things what is the world (or maybe it is just this/other forums?) coming to?
I had it 'working' but not worth doing as the objects get culled off screen far too early because of FOV overrides and stuff. I would be interested in getting this solved, as it makes it unplayable in triple monitor with SoftTH,
I'm not going to say my opinion about cruising / this server or it's lifetime, but almost everyone here needs to get a life, give the guy some credit and if you don't like or support it just go on and read the next thread. I won't say some of the lifespan comments are wrong, but I will say I do hope this guy has something here just to prove everyone else wrong... I haven't nor will I find out for myself because lets face it, cruising isn't for me. But there are people who do enjoy it, so here is to hoping they enjoy your server...
Been ages since I've updated this thread. I have been stuck trying to make it so LFS was running on my laptop, while my AI and code was running on my desktop. However something strange wasn't letting that work. It seemed to be related to my UDP socket of sending the AI commands, as it sometimes doesn't work- but it is odd for many reasons that are too technical.
In any case for the past couple months I've been super busy, and even more busy now. I have yet to let this project die. I probably won't be able to do anything more until the end of July, as my free time is limited to 2hrs a night - and most of that gets used in the LFS Hotlap League, practicing for other events that I am taking part in. Sure I could quite those, but even then I there is so much stuff.
Who knows maybe this will slowly suffer, but I am trying not to let that happen.
Perhaps the computer is running warmer than normal? Thus keeping the fan at higher RPMs. That could also be caused by dust. Maybe the room is warmer than it used to be? Computer move at all?
Like I said, I do not think it is a lag issue. I understand your reasoning and thoughts behind this being lag - but it doesn't sound like the engine is off / on. It sounds very deliberate like I said. I've witnessed it in the MRT at FE3. Perhaps there is something funny with lag- but like I said, it sounds deliberate. The volume changes and it doesn't sound like the engine is just off. It has a puttering to it, not turning on/off because of lag or fuel calculations - which yes would be sent to other players even if it isn't viewable in F12.
If I find some motivation maybe I will try recording it.
That is the thing, when driving I do not get the sound, only someone spectating me. And the same happens if they are driving and I spectate - they don't hear it but I do. I doubt it has something to do with the fuel cutting out as a 'lag' like issue. It seems deliberately done, and is a subtle effect, that since it doesn't happen to the driver, it was rare to have caught.
When a player is running on fumes, extremely low gas <0.1% or so, other players on multiplayer can hear this sound effect - but not the player driving the car. I would think it should be the other way around if anything, but I don't see why both player and spectator couldn't hear it at the same time.
To know what I mean have a friend take a car (MRT) on a track (FE3) and add only 1% of fuel before leaving pits. Spectate your friend as they drive and listen very carefully, you will know when they are running on fumes and can tell them. As long as they aren't directly watching the F12 screen - you will know they are running out before they actually do run out - and yet the driver won't know.
If you hopped in the car and did the same, you wouldn't hear the sound, your only chance of knowing would be the F12 "break realism" screen.
