More info on that new GT wheel

Quote :
So here are some new things:

Wheel Features:
T500 has 2x modes for PS3

1) Force Feedback Mode
2) Emulation Mode

GT5 will use (FFB Mode) and will rely on the games options via what they call (Software Development Kit). Kaz experience from the Nur 24Hr has been part of their focus on wheel torque and precision.

For games that the wheel does not detect the SDK it will go into emulation mode.

This mode emulates the PS3 controller and will require changing options in the controller option screens.
Clutch pedal is not supported and wheel is limited to 270 degrees.
Their will be 2x Sensitivity modes to overcome a controllers deadzone in emulation mode.
Also an "Auto Return To Centre Function" that allows the user to increase or decrease its strength.

These modes are operated with combined button presses detailed in the manual.

Pedal Features
2x tilt positions for each pedal changing the angle.
Each pedal has 3x possible travel positions effecting the pedal resistance.
Long 10Kg / Medium 8.5Kg / Short 7Kg fitting positions.

The "Realistic Brake" adapter allows two settings by reversing it around. Strong and Stronger offering approx 14Kg and 16Kg of resistance but as Darin said and the instructions state this can only be used in the Long position. However that as can be seen offers an additional 4Kg or 6Kg of resistance.

Upcoming Shifter
It will be upto developers to decide to support the PS3 Gearstick as a seperate device or via the wheels VI PID. So we as a community should use our voices to encourage game developers to utilise this feature in upcoming games.

Additional Info
T500 will allow Pedals/Wheel/Gearknobs to be interchanged with official motorsport products however not all of course.

The future is open for a Special or Ltd edition model if they so desire.
(Not saying what/who but respected motorsport brand edition could be on the cards, possibly

Quote from MAGGOT :LOL did you use it for those races by any chance?

I've been having a blast in the Furai She's a fun one!

No, I won it in one of the A-spec races, the MR cup or something

If anyone is after good clean SuperGT races, keep an eye on this thread http://www.gtplanet.net/forum/ ... php?p=4499575#post4499575

The OP will post a room number whenever he hosts one, and he's using hard racing tyres now

Quote from S14 DRIFT :Everyone was raving about the Caterham Fireblade but one popped up in the used car dealer which I bought, and found out that for car that has 380 or something BHP/tonne, it did 0-60 in about 6 seconds...and by default had motorcycle gearing so first went to about 90 and second to 125.

All in all, it struggled with the British Lightweight cup and I found the whole thing a bit disappointing.

Well I wasn't raving about it

It's got no torque, a lighter flywheel and shorter gearing helps a lot though

Yes, I've seen the Furai, as well as the other prize cars in the UCD, but some cost quite a bit, and take a while to show up.

updates on that new GT wheel

Quote from Mr Latte :New updates on Facebook

Precision & Range Video

New Info:

Thrustmaster T500 RS The choice of the materials has been an extensive and crucial process in the conception of the T500 RS.
Both our R&D department and Polyphony Digital have spent two months searching and testing the best materials for the wheel. They had to be both soft & sleek to fit with the 3 full turns and the high speed of rotation (when you let slip the wheel rim spinning back to centre at very high speed, you do not want to get blisters in your palm).
Moreover the raw materials had to be 100% identical, from one wheel to another, from of the production chain.
Last the selected chemical composition contributes to reach the density & weight desired to obtain the right inertia ratio between wheel rim and engine friction.
Therefore we selected the right chemical formula of a specific rubber matching these requirements.
Besides the red strip is made of steel and helps you to always know your position. Also, the plastron is made of a thick authentic brushed metal plate for more realism.

Quote from MAGGOT :I have to say that I really, really hate the B-Spec mode. I bought a racing game so that I can race, not sit there and tell some idiot CPU to not crash all the time...the only reason I'm doing it is so that I can get that Furai concept.

No one is forcing you to do it
You can earn credits and buy the car from the UCD

BTW I test drove a Cizeta 16T, looks bad ass, and is beast to drive
Completely different to GT4! The engine has so much torque, you'll spin out in 3rd gear even with partial throttle of Hard sports tyres!

Quote from atledreier :I just wish at least SOME people would ditch the race softs and go with something less grippy. I love the sport hards most low powered sporty cars come with. Makes it a whole other ballgame.

I'd love a long race at the Ring in something like 200hp-1000kg, sport hard.

Try Shuffle races, some of them had comfort softs and sports hards. You can't pick the car or the tyres, but the cars are fairly close to each other.
The game pics cars for you and they tend to be low to moderate powered.
And if you win 1 race, the next one, you get a weaker car etc. If people stay on for mulitple races, it gets pretty cool

Quote from Boris Lozac :Last night i got totally convinced in difference beatwean offline and online physics.. i can not understand this idiocy by PD.
I drove 59.xx with Mclaren F1 on Tsukuba in Time Trial with sports hard, then went Online with it and the car is skiding all over the place, like there's ice on the track.. you feel much less what is going on with the car, and i couldn't drive better then 1.02.xxx.

Can anyone dare explain this stupidity?

From some guys testing at GTplanet, fuel weight is to blame and tyres are a lot colder online. It seems fuel weight isn't accounted for when in offline practise, plus your tyres are at optimum temperature and don't wear out

Another race against Japanese folks. Yes I do like racing against them even despite the lag.

I love low horse power races, just more fun to me. And a pretty interesting collection of cars in this race. Both premium and standards mingling in harmony

Me in the Lotus Elise 111R
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HB6BU1-WUus

I didn't have any cars that fit the race specs of 800kg minimum weight and 200HP max, that also had soft racing tyres, so I decided to use one of the GT5 stock recommended cars, since they come with all tyres.

I've never driven a Lotus Elise 111R on Tsukuba, but it seems race tyres smooth out the inherent twitchiness of the mid engined short wheel base configuration, although once in a while it'll snap sideways when you least expect it to, like at 4:30
A bit like real life then.

Within a few laps I qualified 2nd, stock against tuned cars! It just felt like understeer doesn't exist in this car. Seemed like this car is just made for this track, and I had a big advantage over the front wheel drive cars in this race

Me think I'll buy me one of these....
You can barely hear my car though, against the exhausts of tuned cars. And my car looked so high off the ground
Race was a lot of fun, and felt good to beat the host (the 2nd placed MX-5) which probably spec'ed the race to fit perfectly with his tuned car

That Race mod Golf GTI looks pretty cool too

Quote from ricosf1 :won this with the 330
max speed at 290
full downforce
and LSD:15/45/25
full babysitting though and a beautiful and tight race with that toyota
tip: even though the race lineup was quite tought(p1 2j, p2 toyota) try not haveing them in first row
gl

I finally won it with your settings, except with speed at 270
Also no toe settings used, camber set at 2.0/2.5
Stock suspension, but I added more damping and rebound to the rear, set to 8

My level 20 driver, full hot, kept epic failing in it!
I switched to my level 17 driver, S.Loeb
And he's on the cool side of moderate , and he got into 4th place after 1 lap and slowly reeled them in. The 2J was leading from the start, but after constant pressure my guy overtook and started to pull away after 2 lap fight back from the 2J.

The key is to get into the top 4 early to keep away from the pileups.
And I pace down twice on the 2 chicanes, need to keep the meter under 3/4

Me thinks S.Loeb is gonna be the star driver here

Quote from Boris Lozac :Wow, Mclaren F1 on Tsukuba is so much fun.. like i downloaded some new physics patch or something.. how the steering wheel gets heavy under braking etc.. After like half an hour managed a 59.685 with abs off, sports hard tires, stock including setup (brake bias 4:2 though).

I got about the same time with medium sports and wing, but my 458 on same setup did high 57 seconds with ABS
And about 1 second slower without ABS. Less power too....

Quote from logitekg25 :has anyone managed to do any type of brakestand in gt5, it just doesnt work at all for me.

if you try with any brake at all it stalls, and if you manage to get it to not stall, then you just plow the front tires no matter what.

in lfs you can jam the brakes in the xrt (which doesnt have too much power as it is) and it will still be alive.

You'll have problems doing those types of things in GT5, but try without ABS on, and minimise the rear brake bias

Quote from Madman_CZ :Ahh the RUF, cannot wait untill I get one myself, guys, have any of you used the race car modifications in the maintenance section? every car I tried to use it with just says not available for this vehicle, I mean wtf, in GT2 you could mod all sorts of cars but in GT5 have not been able to race mod any new car at the moment. What cars can you actually use it for?

You can only RM about 20 cars. There is a list somewhere. It's pretty expensive though, and best done before buying other parts as you get some with it

also about that Thrustmaster wheel
From Darin Gangi at iRacing forums

Quote :I have a T500RS here and it's incredible ! Pedals are decent but not as good as Clubsports.. The wheel on the other hand which will work on the PC once they have their drivers worked out, is a step above anything on the market from Logitech or Fanatec. Actually makes the G25/27 feel and look like a toy. It's more like an ECCI or Frez wheel and feels like it too.
I'll be posting an unboxing and first look vid tomorrow about it..

Quote from skolekaj :should i buy the ruf rgt or is it not good?

It's pretty good - loads of grip if you feed the throttle, rockets out of turns

Quote from Hyperactive :Sudden snap of oversteer isn't exactly making the cars not understeer.

Most of the time I am actually driving with abs set to 0. I really like how you can trail brake into a corner with the car sliding just a bit. On tsukuba in first turn it is really nice in the miatas. But the way it randomly just snaps sideways spoils all the fun of it. And putting abs to 1 doesn't even make the snap oversteer to go away.

My money is on the force combining if it is a simple problem. Although in that case it should happen on corner exits too...

Is this with a properly setup brake Bias? I've never had snap oversteer with ABS on

Hyperactive - Turn off ABS and then tell me the car understeers on corner entry.
Having ABS on 1 or greater removes the weight transfer effect. Not sure why they did this, as Active Stability Management is already a separate aid. With ABS off, if you don't brake in a straight line the car will rotate

Also all cars have a default suspension setup that tunes in understeer. A +0.20 rear toe, zero camber, and stiffer front end would do that.

As noted before, offline play doesn't account for the fuel weight. Which why I suspect online feels so different.
Somebody did a test with the 2CV, and the acceleration for online free run was 4 secs slower than in offline practise mode.
So it's carrying extra weight, fuel weight most probably.

A couple of online race videos against Japanese guys.
I like racing em, despite the slight lag, I always have good races against these guys.

I hate using Racing Softs, but everyone seems to use em online

RX-7 FD at Suzuka
Using a RX-7 FD I built for the recent seasonal event. Nice battle with the Evo 4.
Limits for the race were 1000kg minimum weight and 485hp.
Car felt a bit understeery, need to retune the suspension.

SuperGT race at Fuji - Stealth NSX GT500
Beaten to third at the line. I got shunted off the track at the start, I didn't see the guy there on my left, I should have looked, but I didn't have anywhere else to go.
Didn't realise I had my wipers on

Here is why online physics feel different

Quote :So, in summary:
- The cars I have tested in GT5 have a 100 liters fuel tank.
- In the practice mode, whether fuel consumption is enabled or not, fuel weight is not taken into account for the car handling. So it's not possible to tune the suspension set-up for the added payload while practicing off-line.
- In the online mode with the fuel/tire depletion activated, fuel weight has a substantial effect on handling and acceleration (depending on the car; lighter and less powerful cars are in disadvantage here).
