After driving a car without power steering or assisted brakes, you get used to it. Parking with a 10" wheel and no power steering on 12x6's is still a bitch though

It does that already. That's called tyre deformation You just need to let a bit of pressure out of the tyres to notice it...

Most people who've had faulty units outside of warranty have had them replaced by Logitech, they're really good like that They'll want to make sure it's been destroyed, and will probably ask you to do something like this though

Quote from NotAnIllusion :No full stop in the bottom line? Could get back on topic too

Tut tut, hypocrite (and that's always the way I end sentences when using smilies, it's a lot cleaner than using a full stop which separates the poor smiley )

But yes, back on topic

If your wheel is uncentering itself mid-race, I think you need a new wheel. The last time I had to calibrate mine was back in February when I installed Win7, since then it's held it in everything I play. And my G25 is nearly 2 years old now

Actually, if I plug the wheel in after starting LFS, I have to fully turn the wheel lock-to-lock and lock the axes. Are you sure your axes are locked when this happens? It's the lock button highlighted in your pic

struct IS_MSL // MSg Local - message to appear on local computer only
{
byte Size; // 132
byte Type; // ISP_MSL
byte ReqI; // 0
byte Sound; // sound effect (see Message Sounds below)

char Msg[128]; // last byte must be zero
};

I'm not sure if you send it with Msg blank does the sound still play, it should do though, if you wanted just the sound. It can only be sent to the host InSim is connected to though, you can't send it to clients.

These are 5.56 automatic rifles though, as I say I've only limited experience with pistols. I mean that the shell casing was somehow not ejecting fast enough before the breech closed, usually they'd jam between the stock and the back of the locking piece, or else it would extract a fresh round from the mag and that would catch on the empty casing being ejected, causing both to get jammed as the locking piece came back. It was very strange, it's the only time I've had a stoppage other than a wrong gas setting. But it was just funky ammo to blame

If the manufacturer said the weapon's OK, it would suggest that it's the rounds being at fault, but if you've been using them all along, I haven't a clue what's wrong

Weapon properly cleaned and oiled, haven't switched round manufacturers recently? Don't know an awful lot about pistols, but that's what I'd suggest

We were out on an exercise earlier in the year using blanks (5.56 automatics, same principal though), but they were a new brand being trialed or something. They were terrible quality, every 3rd or 4th round would double feed, they weren't ejecting, some even got caught in the breach when being loaded, jamming it open. Switching back to our "old" rounds fixed it completely, even though they looked identical. Just shows how much different manufacturers differ

Quote from morpha :Most packets contain either the UCID or PLID, or both
Though I should mention, when I did some research on this and asked the devs whether I could publish my findings or not, they asked me to keep it to myself. So if you find something, I suggest you do just that

Ah, of course, I was just thinking of doing a netstat, I never thought of getting the IP of a packet as it comes in :sorry: I see what you mean now

Quote from Napalm Candy :Another problem (but it is not only in Z15 patch, is in Z too) is when switch to 3 display resolution, or too panoramic, the point of the object it is not in their site.

Examples.

Normal resolution
http://img31.imageshack.us/img31/6237/layout2cb.jpg

Wide resolution
http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/8701/layout2bb.jpg

I think the problem is becouse it compress by 3 all 2D images

This can be fixed by going to Options->Display->Interface (Bottom Right) and adjusting Interface Scale (see pic). Setting X to 3.0 would fix your problem for triple screen, but you'd have to set it to 1.0 again when you use single screen

I've never used triple screen, so I'm not sure why LFS doesn't do it automatically, but I know that setting stretches the interface

It does give the guest IP, but it also gives more info in between. So if 2 guests connected at roughly the same time, there could be discrepancies if one has slightly more latency than the other, causing delays with the guest list packet. It also wouldn't send IPs if your InSim app connected while there was people on the server

I'm not sure how Airio manages to find player IPs after connecting mid-race, I don't see how it's possible to distinguish who's who, even if you did get a list from the network stack

I don't see it as being a fanboy. Those are the main points that I would consider a PS3 to be better on, too

Dustin's entitled to hold his opinion about PS3 being better than Xbox, and even states his reasons for it. Poor guy can't even form an opinion without being called an immature fanboy. Poor Dustin

Quote from AlexC :With LFS, for most the gameplay experience is online, that is mainly what LFS is for. Because of this, a (race) license can still be needed to connect to the master network and so the servers on the network. That, as today, would still cost people (and they pay now, so).

When you start LFS, and click multiplayer, then display list of hosts, it connects to the master server. The master server checks your username and password to make sure you're registered. It then replies either with the list of connected hosts, or else "GTFO lol". Basically the same thing if you join a specific host, except instead of giving you a list of hosts, it lets you join the requested server.

It's very easy to get a list of hosts without starting LFS though, as it can be readily found on lfsworld for example. So if one had the source of LFS, one could remove the master server from the equation altogether. Instead of contacting the LFS master server, it could contact an entirely different server that contains just a list of the hosts that are connected to the master server, and send these back without a license check. Effectively, giving you what the master server does, without a license being needed.

As long as LFS is closed source, the master server must be contacted (although, I assume there are ways of altering the address the outgoing packet is sent to, to send it to another server, like above) when someone attemempts to go online. Release the source, and you basically remove the need for licenses

€: Thankfully, you can't connect to a server by IP, so the situation breadfan has with other online games can't happen. As far as I know, they do license checking server-side, in the game server. LFS has the master server in between, so (theoretically at least) cannot be compromised like that

Quote from AlexC :The server-side would still be closed source like it is today, and I'm hoping even now that the license protection is mostly done on the server-side, if not there is still many ways to get around it to-date .

License checking is done server-side, but the call to check the license is obviously done client-side. Remove this, and it doesn't contact the server for a license check

It's a nice idea, sure, but it's never going to happen. It's just too complicated, and has too much potential for an epic fail somewhere

If it was done to speed up development through user-made fixes, patches, etc., I reckon it would slow LFS development even more. Think of the amount of testing and code reviewing that the devs would then need to do to make sure it fixes the problem, and doesn't cause any more.

I'd hope that the source would be made available to licensed users in the future, but I disagree about it being fully open sourced. Then any demo user can get their hands on the source, remove all license protection and distribute amongst themselves. Which means drastically reduced license sales

I can't see the problem with this business model. In fact, I prefer it. At least I can play the game now, and then get updates to make it better along the way Would you prefer if LFS was still only enjoyed by 3 people until it was deemed to be S2 Final?

(sorry if it looks like I'm nitpicking your post, it's just something that stuck out at me, and I don't really have anything to contribute to the rest of it that hasn't been said by Chris, or that would make me look like an utter PS3 fanboy, so I'll keep quiet :shy

Quote from broken :The RequestID explanation was just perfect. Thanks!

Glad someone understands it, it makes 0 sense to me now

Quote from broken :-About february... I don't want to specify each year separately, but to make it work smart. :P

Just use "DateTime.Now.Year()" as the year part of it, it has it's own special algorithm to work out if it was a leap year If you're interested, this is exactly what it does:

public static int DaysInMonth(int year, int month)
{
if ((month < 1) || (month > 12))
{
throw new ArgumentOutOfRangeException("month", Environment.GetResourceString("ArgumentOutOfRange_Month"));
}
int[] numArray = IsLeapYear(year) ? DaysToMonth366 : DaysToMonth365;
return (numArray[month] - numArray[month - 1]);
}

Quote from broken :And as for the messy code and explanations: I know. I didn't do much cleanup myself. Lazy a** I am. Wrote so much stuff and didn't spend a little time on cleaning it up.

Heh, I know exactly what you mean. Just look at my spaghetti code in the open source cruise app :rolleyes:

From the day I first played LFS, I used button clutch and keyboard steering. It's not that hard, you only need it at the start of a race, and when changing gear it's just a matter of pressing two buttons instead of one

I've had a G25 for the last two years though, and even if using a clutch pedal, gated shifter and 900° makes me slower I couldn't care less. I get far more enjoyment out of the game like this, and that's what it's all about for me. If I was hell bent on winning, I'd be using mouse steering with shifter macros. But that's not fun
