I have it. If your interested in the learning curve, I can tell you this much, I bought it around xmas and have been properly learning it for about a month and half now. It took me about a week to learn/memorise how to start up the helo and take off. Yesterday, I fired my first cannon round. and that was only in a training mission.
I have not flown any missions offline or online yet, just training and more training. The complexity of this sim is mind blowing and I love it . One day I played it for about an hour and a half and never even started the engine. I was sitting on the helo pad playing with the ABRIS moving map display system.
Online should be good, the community is very helpful and has a nice atmosphere. I wouldnt think there would be loads of servers but there will be a few.
About the gigs of scenery, there is an active modding scene going on for ground textures, skins, sound packs. Most where originaly designed for lockon and are being transfered to BS, or the guys making them are still working on them for BlackShark. The only mod Im using is a Runway replacment texture. But there is a ground terrain mod in development that looks really nice.
To download BS, there are 2 files, one 900mb and one 1.3gb.
Supposedly the printed manual will be around the time of the DVD boxed version, It would be really handy to have a paper manual near by when learning to fly.
Yes, main bug for me was not being able to load some of the islands. If you have this problem turn vegetation off. Still excellent release though, lots of new stuff to play with
Maybe, but you have to wonder, what are they really gaining from driving on the open road as opposed to the many varied types of test tracks (some of which are designed to be like the open road) and runways (I'm guessing that Porsche do have the monetary resources to test on a runway or something similar) available?
jeez guys, give it a rest. All these Scirocco posts are getting very boring, have you no patience? Anyway, as soon as it is released you'll be moaning about some thing else.
Id also like to point out that the amount of spam in the test patch forum is horrendous and embarrassing. I wouldn't blame Scawen for stopping the use of the test patches and forum and switching to closed beta testing. Some of you people just cant seem to follow the simplest of instructions...
If you like complicated simulators it doesn't get any better than this. Simmers have been crying out for something with this level of detail for ages. The use of a fully interactive clickable cockpit is also very nice and helps greatly with the overwhelming level of detail.
The fact that Eagle dynamics have been released from the shackles of a major publishing company (eg UBI soft) has done wonders, they can work at their own pace and make a product that simmers like and are happy with because the guys making it know what the users expect. Essentially they are making the kind of sim they would want to play, just like LFS
Nice vid, cheers. Have to admit the sound in LFS is actually pretty close to the real thing, just missing some of that raw dynamic sound. Is that the sound of rev limiter at the start or is it because of wheel spin?
Yeah, I think the Arcade mode was a real nice idea by Eagle Dynamics. The more copies they sell the better, they have a load of aircraft planned for this DCS series.
The design is called Peter Built I think.
I'd say its 'cause those yanks like big engines and there aint no where else to stick it except out the front
You have to admit they do look a lot cooler and more menacing too, like the truck from Duel for example.
