But you do have to change your line in a corner, to prevent yourself from losing ground because of the ''dirty air'' and then get back on his butt to push him some more. Following a car that closely isn't easy . And for the damage part, well if you're doing it right, it shouldn't be any bang, it should just be sticking to him and then pushing him without necessarily bumping. It looks really cool when you see it in real life without any bump, just sticking.

I dissagreeeeee. In real life at least bump drafting takes as much skill as normal drafting/sling... It doesn't damage either car if done properly (if you forget things like engine heating) and can last as much time as you want. :P

Quote from Ssr_Nick :It's great to have a clear race... but some people need to learn that rubbing is racing (even in open wheels classes).

They need to step out of the gaming world and watch some real racing.

Exactly my thoughts

Well I type a lot while I race. Sometimes even in corners :P Since I use a wheel, what I do is :

1. Hold steering wheel with chin
2. Reach for the keyboard
3. Turn if in a corner or hold the wheel straight if on a straight
4. Press T
5. Chat away!
6. Get ready for the next challenging corner but putting both your hands on the steering wheel and full concentration on the road rather then the chat!

Hope it helps. :P

Quote from J@tko :Awesome.

The Norisring is just a fab track, basically two straights with hairpins at either end - even F1 might get a decent race there

Oval? lol. 2 straights, 2 hairpins. Sounds like an oval xD

Quote from el pibe :well, my set is more for race than quali so i guess i should be ok with it if i stay on mid 51- low 52's... and yeah, during pitstop i would need to refill because even with full tank i predict around 28-30 laps then pit. ( 3.5% a lap.... =/ )

thanks anyway for the tips, i will try to do a race simulation sometime this week and if everything goes in the right direction, well... thanks ! =)

You won't be ok with those kind of times... We were running with racing set and 80% fuel yesterday. Someone (won't say name :P) was running 48-49s and I was running high 50's to low 51s with no practice. So either your setup has something wrong with it or you need to get practicing! But yeah you'll need to change tires imo.

Quote from imaquad :my thoughts on the incident with 116 and 123. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pvv0Gt8J0pI

I'd say thats kinda a racing incident/CoRe cars fault... It was 3 wide so maybe the guy in the middle was just being cautious but at the same time the CoRe car isn't expecting THAT much space to be left therefore he turns in for the turn rather than staying high. Maybe he shouldn't have turned into him but then again maybe the middle car should've actually turned for the corner taking a normal racing line rather then going so wide.

Quote from dawesdust_12 :To my knowledge LFS does kinda simulate the drafting/slipstream effect. Not very well but it simulates it in a basic form and it effects both cars.

I don't think it affects both cars. I think its as basic as the car behind loses most of the downforce and that's about it (or front downforce at least which is why when your following someone in their slipstream in a highspeed corner you'll just keep going straight.)

Thats how I think it works at least... Not 100% sure though.

Lol weirdly enough I got into a server that was racing that combo (with GT2) and got some sets with R2 Front and R3 rear. The set would last about 1 hour i think and at a much quicker pace then 51-52. So during your pitstop (which you will have to do in a 1h 40 race since the fuel tank doesnt take enough for that much time!) you'll need to change tires once thats all. Good luck!

Karts : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xEv-YxJysxk

Although I agree with what you say SparkyDave, a strategy should never be forced, if you want to use a different strategy go for it. It's called a strategy because theres multiple choices... If 1 guy is dominating and lapping .2 or .3 of a second faster then everyone except some guy who got unlucky in qual and he's in 3rd but lapping as quickly. The gap is huge. What's the smartest thing to do? Push the guy in P2 all the way to P1 and then ditch him. I think it's just fair and if the guy who's getting passed by the bump drafters doesn't like it, he can just join the line, catch the draft and easily seperate them :P.

Anyways, this is another topic/argument that will never end because it's purely opinion lol.

Quote from ANAMENOONEHAD :ITS funny most people drive the oval in a open wheel car which i havent seen bump drafting in indy at all. its a closed wheel type deal. so i think bump drafting in a ss is cheating the physics/damage model of lfs for the momment. anyone can show me a vid of ss's bump drafting? as far as the gtr cars go sure its legit. but ss hmm....

Open wheel car also designated Karts I think :P Karts do bump draft . But I agree. Larger open wheel cars with front wings shouldn't be able to bump draft but just wait till the devs integrate the detacheable wings and we'll see .

Quote from VECCHIONI :this will be most likely my last response to this dilemma, however like wild just said, if he was racing nolan and myself for the win and he was not teammates with nolan...no way in hell does he stay behind the car in front there. He would of passed him knowing that coming out of t3 he would be behind with the draft momentum and ability to pass... All there is to it is that teammates held a bottom line and blocked early in the lap when it wasnt necessary.

And teammates are not allowed to hold a bottom line? If they thought it was necessary to hold the bottom line then they can do it, nothings stopping them. As for the whole ''you should've passed instead of slowed down'' thats just bull. If he wants to stay behind someone let him do it, even if you believe it was a dissadvantage he may see something you don't.
