pb messages saved in replays

I think it would be great if server messages (at least pb's) were saved and displayed in multiplayer replays (sorry if this has been already requested, my search didn't find it).

Sorry if this has been reported already, but this thread is getting pretty long and I don't have time now to read it all again.

I'm using DaveWS_soundpackV3 and everything's great (thanks for all the changes!), except that when I switch to free view (shift+U), the sound gets instantly more level and much more clipping, particularly when there are lots of cars close to me. Makes a big difference with the chase view, but I'd expect the two to be very similar.

I've read it, and I've understood it, thank you. But I've also read opposite opinions and I'm not convinced that pausing a hotlap cannot be used to gain an unfair advantage. So I was suggesting a compromise that would definitely prevent cheating but would still allow interrupted long runs.

Why not just make invalid the lap(s) where the pause was used? It would prevent cheating (assuming using the pause allows cheating efficiently, which I'm not sure about at all) but would still allow to pause a long series of laps without invaliding them all.

Great! Thanks a lot for your help, guys!

Thanks a lot for those detailed explanations! They clarified several points I wasn't sure about.

My last question is about putting the updated layout on your server. If I understand correctly, you just have to drop the lyt file into the layout directory and load it using /autox <filename>. Is that correct?

Thanks for your quick reply, XCNuse!

I was hoping to get some more info, though (how to save your changes, how to make them accessible to others, etc). Anyone with a link to a thread or a page where I can find it?
Adding elements to existing tracks?

I've been a couple of times on some team's public server where a South City config had been modified by the addition of tire walls and other similar elements (for example they added a wall along the pit exit line to prevent people from cutting it, etc).

When I tried using Shift+U in existing tracks, I could select elements (like cones, lines, etc), but I couldn't add them to the track. I've searched the forum and the wiki for how to do it, but I didn't find anything (I guess I didn't search for the correct terms). Any pointer to some info about this would be greatly appreciated.
Preventing public talking in the lobby

I noticed in league races that admins or race directors sometimes have trouble to get heard in the lobby. There's often some overexcited people who keep talking, wich brings the admins' signal-to-noise ratio so low that they're sometimes hard to follow even with the history displayed.

I think it would be very handy in some cases if admins had a switch to prevent public talking in the lobby. When activated, this option would still allow all the admins to talk, but no one else could, until an admin switched it back or the session started (so people would always be able to talk on the track and the next time they join the lobby, even if the admin forgot to switch it back).

Depends on your keyboard, but try F14 if you have it, or F13.

Someone reported success running LFS on CrossOver, too. See this thread: http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=15872

I run LFS on a Mac Pro using BootCamp to boot XP, and it works very, very well. I hope your Mac is recent enough to do that!

BTW, "MAC" stands for Media Access Control (which even PC users have). Your Apple computer is a "Mac".

Quote from Hankstar :I think we'll probably see plenty of people using a dual boot in the near future - precisely because XP runs everything nice and clean and Vista looks pretty.

Well, I'm using dual boot on my Mac, because Mac OS X runs everything nice and clean (not to mention looking prettier than Vista or being way more secure), and XP runs LFS. :mischievo

This option already exists. Have a look in the script directory. You'll find a file named FOX.lfs. Open it, replace "run paddle" with "run road", and save it. Voilà.

Edit: On second thought, you'll have to edit also the file named road.lfs. I'm not sure what you'll have to use for H shifter, as I don't have one, but for sequential mine is set to:

button 8 shift_up
button 9 shift_down

Quote from Macfox :I'm not familiar with the garage backgrounds. Is this the banner (texture)above the garages or something totally different, like the lobby backdrop?

The latter is a client option I guess, not so much a server setting/option.

I meant the image used for background when you're in the garage. Like the attached one that I found on the forum. I know it's on the client, at the moment. I'm suggesting a mechanism similar to skins that would allow the client to download the image from the server, if any. Otherwise it'd keep using the default one.

I think it would be very cool if server admins could (easily) change the garage background image on their server (which of course would be downloaded by the clients) to give a more personalized look to their tracks.

I prefer the garage background I downloaded from the forum to the original one, but I think it would be great if the background could change depending on the server (admins could add their team's url and colors on the background, display some server rules, etc).

Edit: Also it would be very handy if the name and code of the current track were displayed in the garage. When you join a server by finding a racer online, you don't know which track you're at.

If you accept a set while driving, as soon as you click on SS in the connection list and the "dialog" opens, force feedback is (unexpectedly) disabled until you close the dialog.
Replay UI bugs

1. When a replay ends, or you stop it, you're sent back to the main menu. I'd expect to be back at the replays menu.

2. If you save a replay and type a name that already exists, LFS prompts you to replace the old replay. If you agree, though, it doesn't replace it but instead appends a number to the new replay's name. So either the prompt isn't needed, or LFS should replace the file when being told so.

3. If you try to rename a replay just by changing lowercases to uppercases (and vice versa), you get an alert saying that a file with that name already exists and the renaming is cancelled. I'd expect LFS to silently rename the file.

These are in S2V.

Got problems too, a couple of hours ago. I was dropped from my team's server and I haven't been able to reconnect for more than half an hour. Each time there was an error, either no answer from the Master server, or an error getting the track info, or an error waiting for OK.

I didn't have any other problem with my Net connection at that moment.

Then it suddenly started to work again.

A race to forget, for me. I started from around mid-grid, stayed out of trouble at T1, and lost my brakes at the first hairpin. I went across the guys in front like a wrecker at BL's T1, thankfully managing to avoid hitting anybody, and since then I got endless troubles with my darn brakes pedal. Sometimes it worked as expected, and the next corner it wouldn't brake more than 50%, which of course led me to out-brake myself. Also, almost each time I stopped braking, it remained stuck at 10 or 20% until I hit it again (in fact it got stuck each time I released the brakes progressively). I stopped a few times and tried to re-calibrate the controls (which sometimes does the trick), but it didn't help much. For some reason the problems disappeared almost completely around lap 17 and I did my first laps in less than 1:59. But then the problems came back, even worse than before, and I gave up around lap 20 (for me, as I was probably 2 or 3 laps behind everyone).

I hate Logitech, and I hate Murphy's law!

Quote from VALE 46 :after testing this it seems that it keeps the controls even after you change car. So you will have to assign gear shift button scripts for all cars.

Since by default each car has a script that runs either the paddle.lfs, road.lfs, or sequential.lfs script, you just have to edit those three scripts. For example here's my road.lfs (using a Momo):

// shift from shifter
button 8 shift_up
button 9 shift_down

// reassign paddles
button 0 flash
button 1 horn

And paddle.lfs:

// shift from paddles
button 0 shift_down
button 1 shift_up

// reassign shifter
button 8 flash
button 9 horn

Then you have to edit car scripts only if you don't want to use the default, like for example replacing "run sequential" with "run paddle" in MRT.lfs.

BTW, once these three scripts are set, you can also run them while driving. For example typing "// paddle" in the text box while driving the UF1 would instantly allow you to switch gears from the paddles rather than from the shifter.
