i have a nitro off road buggy from tamiya. nitro thunder/blaster/force.

it drifts like there's no tomorrow

tarmac, dirt, gravel, anywhere, even on road tyres

why do you say "i never said it was an extreme case" ?

he has an 'ezcool' psu. those are not good. i think he isn't reading this thread anymore, i've already asked him twice to try switching the psu. it's been a week.

talking about the 8800gt with a c2d on a 350W psu

this doesn't say nothing

there are 8800gt cards with power consumption from 50W to 110W.

so a 50W 8800gt with a 65W c2d (you said typical setup so no 'extreme' or whatever, but even with a 100W c2d) will live just fine with a 350W psu.

with that out of the way let's go to the next issue

the 9800gt that uses only the power from the pcie bus, strains the pcie bus power supply (and everything this implies)

the 9800gt that has a 4/6/8 pin connector, does not get all the power it needs from the pcie power supply alone.

so the fact that it needs less power doesn't say much.

i say again:

try your father's psu in your machine.

just for shits and giggles.

no cutting. the white line is there for a reason.

and no, if a racer is cutting the corner, then he is not on the same track.

well, you yourself said you have no clue what we're talking about, right? via's cpu is faster than the atom.

wait... what did you say?
Quote :I did state that they are in the low power consumption level. But that still doesn't make them faster, does it?

uh...? both the via nano and the intel atom are low power consumption cpus. that doesn't make them slower or faster... i don't know what does "make them faster" even mean but i know that the nano is faster than the atom.

Quote :Basically... but that's taking into account that you get lucky. You may get away seldomly with cheap ram

my friends who've bought kingston corsair etc have had more issues than me who has been buying the next-to-cheapest ram. 'transcend' 'jetram' stuff like that. not sure what is sold as 'cheapest' over there but anyway: i don't "seldomly get away with it". my machine right now has two kinds of cheap ram in it and it goes solid as a rock. overclocked too.

also, what does "QUALITY RAM" mean? the cheapest 1GB ddr2 stick i can buy here is micron's 'rendition' for 10 euros, the next one is ocz at 13 euros and then some kingston for 14-15 euros.
there is also corsair ram 800MHz ddr2 1GB stick for 21 euros.
so to understand what you suggest, which one should he buy?
i would suggest the rendition ram (micron memory chips)

it's a coincidence that the greek word for 'wheel' is written as 'roda' (using the latin alphabet)?

we aren't saying that via is better than intel. we're saying that via's lowpowerconsumption cpu is faster than intel's atom. just that. notice what i said.

there are motherboards and/or chipsets that are picky with ram.

there are motherboards and/or chipsets that can use anything, but need careful configuration (DFI lanparty)

there are motherboards that don't care much.

i've always bought very cheap ram and i haven't had a problem in 10 years of computoring.

meh

whatever

well... shucks :sorry::worried:

from what i understand though we'll all be testing it in the near future, considering the beta testers said it's good. :woohoo:

all we can do is wait now :sleep1:

i DON'T KNOW WHY YOU ARE SHOUTING

YOU CAN PUT WHATEVER YOU WANT

i WOULD BUY TWO "STICKS", 1gb EACH, OF ddr2 667mhZ

NOT MUCH DIFFERENCE ANYWAY

Quote from Shadowww :VIA makes pretty good CPU's, even better than Intel. Compare VIA Nano to Intel Atom.

the intel is far better if you consider performance to power consumption.

the via is faster, indeed.

who the hell can make a 25W cpu reach >100C?

you also need a far better cooler for both the cpu and the gpu.
for the gpu, arctic cooling accelero s1rev2 and two 12cm fans on each one
for the cpu hr-01, thermalright true or xigmateck s1283

if you're really serious about overclocking though, you've gotta be prepared for spending money on watercooling

you do know the 4890 has a typical power consumption of 140W and a peak of 210W, right?

also is anyone else baffled as to how a 650W can (reportedly) deliver 52A at 12V which means 620W on the 12V alone?

especially if you plan on overclocking a crossfire 4890 phenomII system i'd say go two notches up in the corsair line.

Quote from MadCatX :Agreed, you can safely restore the CPU clock to 100%, modern CPU's can't be fried, there is a temperature threshold, which, when exceeded, triggers automatic shutdown.

in notebooks the cpu is the last thing to fail from overheating.

the rest of the system will give up long before the cpu will.

for example, some mobile bartons have a max operational temp of 100C

do you think the innards of a laptop can withstand that kind of temperature? most motherboards give up when they reach 75-80. nvidia chipsets start giving problems when overheating.

i doubt one can buy a (normal, complete) system today that can not run LFS quite nicely.

let me see some of the cheapest possible, current generation, stuff on a greek e-shop...

AMD ATHLON II X2 245 2.9GHZ DUAL-CORE BOX
ASUS M4N78-AM
GIGABYTE RADEON HD4550 GV-R455D3-512I 512MB PCI-E RETAIL

yup. it won't go nuts, but it will play lfs quite nice, no?
i'll let someone else create a list like that for a intel/nvidia system

the card is overheating

go at tomshardware or whatever site, look at benchmarks of games (not spec3d or 3dmark stuff) see what card you can buy with that money

That's about it.

with paypal, if i remember.

debit cards are pretty safe imho

the 8600gt has like 1/3 the power consumption of the 9800GT

the 8600gt is 26W idle 52W peak
the 9800gt is 32W idle, 140W peak.

your psu is not a very good psu.

since you'll be getting a new cpu anyway, you won't gain anything if the overclock is successful.

if however the overclock is not successful you are risking damaging other components. rare, but not impossible.

i'd say leave it as is. in a few days you'll be cool. in the meantime, relax.
