Quote from mrodgers :Being from over here in the US, when I think cars, I don't think of Ferarri, Porsche, Lotus, as I think I've only ever seen maybe 2 of each my entire life.... Ferarri is a real sight as they are extremely rare to see. I've seen 1 Lamborghini (Diablo) ever. Porsche is a bit more common. In fact, I stopped at the store this morning on the way to work and saw this guy, though it is not modern....

i see porsches all the friggen time around here...but maybe that has something to do with the Porsche NA headquarters literally being 1/2 mile from where i work. Ferarris are pretty rare, as are lambos, but do see a few of them as there is an exotic car dealership near work as well. so i occassionally see people test driving murcielagos, gallardos, elises, 430s, 612s, etc.

Quote from LFSn00b :You can teach them, just put 100 fuel to then and put about 100-200 laps to race and go watch TV

why not 5% fuel, and enough laps to require them to pit. that way they learn, and it happens quicker.

i was going to suggest AutoGK, because it is the easiest way i've found to convert DVD.
1) Rip the dvd
2) open AutoGK
3) select the folder
4) select audio and subtitles from dropdown
5) select the output filesize
and then start the conversion.

its as easy as that. you can get more involved with the settings if you like, but unless you are having a particular issue, the default settings work great.

for more info, and advanced settings...

everyonce in a while when i start LFS up it opens up to a black screen, and i can hear music in the background. ALT+f4 still works to exit program, but what i usually do is shift+f4 to go into a windowed screen, then shift+f4 again to full screen and it rights itself. not sure if this is the same issue you are having, but still might work for you.

i went to high school with a girl like that...oddly enough, her name mckinsey also.

for her 15th birthday she got a brand new black 3000gt vr4. but she really wanted a red mercedes. and she tried to get her dad to trade it in for a mercedes, and when he wouldn't do that, she asked him if they could at least trade it in for a red car.

had a little free time yesterday, so i came up with this. wasn't sure if you wanted something along the lines of this, or an actual logo, which based on the site you linked to, you already have an actual logo

i started a thread over at the 500servers forum, so maybe one of the admins saw it. if so, great. if not, doesn't matter as long as its fixed

it would appear that the affected servers are hosted on the same box...

Quote from SamH : wonder if this is a cfg.txt file problem. Our UKCT server was started up on patch X but using an old cfg file, and it appears to connect okay (I think?). That's a real shot in the dark though.

i just downloaded the dedicated host file of the main page, and compared the setup.cfg and cfg.txt to those on my server, and they match up. so that's not it.

Quote from phatdragonx :I tried to join it just now (11:20 pm) and it gives me the guest info error.

Is it strange that I can join the 500servers test server, but not your server, which is hosted by 500?

yeah, i'm hosted by 500servers. that's really bizarre.

Quote from jibber :I have to admit that i didn't take a close look at the MS wheel so far. I guess it somehow just didn't appeal to me...

i wasn't all that keen on it before i got it, but i knew that i wanted a wheel, and wanted actual ffb and not just rumble, so it was the only choice, and i have to say, for the most part i've been happy with it.

its contoured so that it rests on your lap while playing, but really it needs to be clamped down. i'm still working on that part because i need to find a solution that has a high WAF (wife acceptance factor)

1) that is the easy way
a little bit later, there are some races that are worth a lot of money each, but those have a driver level requirement. and the only way to get that up is to race.

2) no, there are 3 other wheels available, but those are the crap wheels. they have "vibration feedback", which is nothing more rumble. if you want true force feedback, you have to go with the MS wheel. supposedly the API for the wheels has been released so other wheels might start popping up, but i'd guess 6months+ for those since they have to be developed, tested, manufactured, and then shipped. and really, while it isn't a g25, the wheel is actually pretty good. 2 biggest complaints. its only 270deg and the pedals don't grip carpet that well.

and why would there be many european cars on the first site? its a site for the american market.

by that same token, one could say that the 2nd site sucks because there are no american cars.

but i don't think that's the point the OP was trying to make. he was basically offering a site that had crash test videos to use as a reference for use in LFS's damage modeling.

now, i will say that they videos on the first sight were extremely annoying because of that stupid talking head that kept popping up in the video.

here is a pretty good tutorial

if you follow it, you should be able to make something more or less like this...

yeah, skinning is a very different beast, since there isn't a way to upload graphics, and so to get results that you want you have to think about everything in is base geometric shapes...

lets use the last skin i made as an example...

the birds are just one of the fonts. i took one of the lower case V shape and stretched it until i got a look that i liked.

the fish are similar, but a little more involved. are made up of 5 shapes
a set of parenthesis put together to make the body shape ()
an ampersand to make the tail &
a circle shape stretched into an oval to fill the body in
and then a gradient circle shape stretched into an oval to give a some dimensions to the fish bodies.

the clouds are basically just a whole bunch of gradient circles on top of a circle stretched into an oval to give the cloud a flat base.

and finally the mountain is a triangle with a couple of tear shapes on the edges to make it look more like a mountin, and then a couple more tear shapes on top of the triangle to give some more detail to the mountain.

hope that helps.

if you want to gift me a sprinter trueno, i'll put this skin on it and gift it back to you so you can look through all the labels to see how i accomplished everything if you'd like. i should be able to stay online long enough to be able to do that.

is there something you need help with? i can't really get on live at the moment because my cable company sucks and i get dropped all the time. so any service that uses a persistent connection (like xbox live or lfs ) is pretty much unusable until they figure out how to fix the problem, which i'm not even sure they know what the problem is.

Quote from Gabkicks :i thought only the microsoft official wheel had force feedback?

i believe it is also. the other wheels available only have rumble, not true ffb. although, apparently the API for the wheels has been released by MS, so 3rd party wheels with ffb should start showing up later this year or early next year, i'd guess.

also, if you get the $130us MS 360 wheel, you'd also need the wireless game ($30us) adapter for it to work with your PC. for that price you could have a DFP or a momo.

i've got both the g25 and the MS 360 wheel, and while the MS wheel
is a decent wheel, it is definitely not the best solution for use on a PC, unless you had both a 360 and pc and only wanted 1 wheel set. that's pretty much the only time i'd recommend the MS 360 wheel for the PC.

there are quite a few sponsor logos, but they are only car manuafacture logos, and other automotive products. and there are 3 or 4 different fonts you can use. any other logos or fonts that you see are hand crafted.
