the most important file to replace is the autoexec.lfs file. it has 90% of the setup info in it. next are road/paddle/sequential. The rest of the files (the individual car files) have little to no changes in them (yet).

here are my scripts for the g25, and everything works in U30. just replace the your scripts with the ones in the zip file...figured that would be the easiest way to test

The wheel: 95
Love it. Nice look, nice feel, great precision. Like i've mentioned before (someplace else on the forum), my old wheel was a 180deg wheel, so the 900deg rotation is taking a bit of getting used to, although someone gave the good advice of incrementally increasing the rotation to get used to it. i'll have to definately try that.

Pedals: 99
Absolutely love the pedals. It'd be nice if the clutch pedal was a bit further away, but other than that they are great. i love the feel of the pedals. i've found that i can brake later and remain control, which is nice, and should eventually equate to faster times.

Shifter: 90
No issues with the shifter. Haven't had a problem with missed shifts (the throw is actually fairly close to my actual car's). Haven't had a problem with knocking it out of gear either. Only thing is that in 2nd gear it crowds my right hand on the wheel, but that's more of an issue of how i have the wheel and shifter setup on my desk, so i'm not counting that issue. button's are a bit obscured, but not probitivily so, and its really only an issue in 2,4,6/r gears. in the other gears, my fingers are long enough to reach the buttons from the shifter.

overall: 96
great controller set. leagues better than the DF i upgraded from. well worth the price, and i'd recommend it to anyone that can afford its price...and if you can't afford it, save up. its that good.

also, don't knock NFSC too much on it's clutch funtionality...LFS is the same way

i can't wait to get home and try out U29.

Question about one of the new(?) features though

Shift+G, does that switch the shifter type to the default for that car type (paddle, road, sequential), or does it toggle through [auto/sequ./shifter]?

or does it do somethign else entirely?

Quote from Breadstick3000 :Does any one know the WinXP shortcut keys for next / previous track (not lfs keys)?

Will use the Logi profiler to assign it to the buttons on the shifter. Always have I-tunes running in the background, the shortcut keys on the keyboard are a bit orquid to use when racing.

left and right arrow keys...one problem with your plan though...i believe itunes has to be in focus for these to work...which makes the process even more orquid than the keyboard shortcut keys

maybe on one computer it need to install some addiontal software that was already installed on the other computer (such as .Net or some other framework that the software is based on)

don't know if this software is built on .Net, its just the first example that popped in my head.

this is the 3rd version of the logitech software i've used, and the 3rd computer i've installed it on, and it has never once asked me to restart after installation.

last year when i bought LFS, i took my ps2 wheel and installed the logitech software. no restart required. everything worked perfectly.

6mo later, I got my dad into LFS, and he went out and bought a DFP, and installed a newer version of the software on his computer. no restart required. everything works perfectly.

A 2 months ago, i built a new computer and used my old wheel with the same version of the software that i installed on my dad's computer. no restart required. everything worked perfectly.

2 days ago, i got my g25, put the disk in, and the installer removed the old version of the software, then installed the new version that came with the g25. no restart required. everything works perfectly.

this software does not require a restart...at least under XP home. I can't remember if i had to restart after installing the software on my XP Pro box. Pretty sure I didn't have to restart when i was testing Vista out either.

As for settings, all strength settings are default (100% i think), combined is off, and centering is on. In game FFB is set at 65, and is stronger than on my old wheel.

what i think you should try is,
  • uninstall the logitech software
  • go into device manager and make sure the g25 isn't listed and if it is
  • right-click on it and choose "uninstall"
  • remove the g25 usb connection
  • put the disk taht came with the g25 in the cd/dvd drive and install the software.
  • after the software has been installed, plug the g25 back in.

oh, and photoshop users, use "save for web" instead of "save as". the graphics are further optimized over "save as", and result in smaller file sizes with the same or better quality.

instead of using the arbitrary scale of 1-12, it uses 1-100, with 70-90 quality being the sweet spot of quality/filesize, depending on the complexity of the image. and going over 95 is not recommended as it does not offer any significant quality increase, but dramatically increases filesize.

oh, and lfs world accepts car skins at 512x512 or at 1024x1024. and for use on your own machine, you can use skins as large as 2048x2048.

helmet skins are an exception and must be 512x512 on lfs world.

its a setting in the the ATI Catalyst Control Center. IIRC it was Mipmap Detail Level (set it all the way to the right for quality) that corrected the problem for me.

it came yesterday. and i gotta say, i love it. i suck at driving with the 6-speed, but thankfully there are paddle shifters.

the best part though is the pedals. there is more resistance on the brake pedal, and it increases the further the pedal is depressed, so it gives a pretty realisitc pedal feel. it actually allows me to brake later going into corners because i have a better feeling for the lockup threshold.

one thing i'm not use to is the 900 deg. rotation for the wheel. my old wheel was 180 deg. and i'm used to catching a slide from that rotation amount. With the extra rotation amount, i'm catching the slide ok, but once the tires bite, i'm getting a nasty snap oversteer that i can't catch. i'll get used to it, but its a slight issue i'm having right now. i'm getting better though.

anyways...on to the pics.

pedals. been down for less than a day and already covered in dog hair.

you can definately get a DFP in that price range. But for a little less than 240€, you could get the G25 (just got mine yesterday, its great). If you shop around you might be able to find the g25 for 200€. They are out there, but most places that have them at that price are sold out...at least in the US anyways.

That happened on my server last week. I had to restart the server and it was fixed. If anyone knows who is running that server, send them a message and tell them they need to restart it. after that, it'll be all good again.

Quote from Scawen :OK. There's a space after reverse. Just delete that space at the end of the line.

That is a bug, the space should be ignored. Thanks, and I've made a note of the bug.

that took care of it. Thanks!

wasn't sure if this is where i should post this, but since it seems to be with the script system, i figured this was as good as any...

so, i'm also a new g25 owner, and i set up my initial script with everything that i want defined (at least everything that i can think of right now, and get around to doing each car individually).

but anyways, when i start LFS up (U28 btw), i get an error message "autoexec: line 19 - Unknown btn function".

So, i open up my script, count to line 19, and this is the code...

button 14 reverse

if i go into a race, reverse is correctly defined. just a bug, or am i doing something incorrectly?

if it matters, here is my whole script...
// This script is run when you first reach the main entry screen
// You can use it for initialisations, running scripts, etc.

button 0 ctrl_f1
button 3 handbrake

button 4 shift_up
button 5 shift_down

button 7 left_view

button 9 gear_2

no, the 7600 is not better. why? 2 reasons. the 6800 uses GDDR3, and the 7600 uses GDDR2. How is slower better? Second, the 6800 series is a 256b card, and the 7600 is a 128b card. The wider bandwidth of the 6800 allows for more simultanious transfer of info in one cycle. And as pontiac used to say, wider, is better.

Now, the 6800xt listed in the first post is kind of odd, because it is listed as 128-bit, which according to the nvidia site, it should be 256. if that is the case, stay away from that particular card because they have deviated from the reference design of the card.

Quote from Vain :Just for your information, jakg and others:
A PC has to do different things than a PS3. When designing a console (or a CPU for a console) you know pretty well what it's going to do. Mostly draw polygons, texture things, process shaders, load textures, numerically integrate differential equotations (physics), etc.
However, a PC does all kind of other stuff like decode xvid-streams, encrypt data, compile sourcecode, render images and basically everything that's mathematically calculatable. And it should do all this stuff at a good pace. A console only needs to do a limited band of activities quickly, the other things can take ages and no one will notice.
That's why a console will always have an edge in these activities, while it'd basically suck at other duties.
(Unless it's a Xbox, which is merely a normal PC in a fancy case.)

Vain

even in the case of the xbox, match it up against a similarlly specced PC, and the xbox will play the same game better than the PC. why? the OS (yes, all consoles have an OS, to counter a post on the first page). The console OS is very much slimmed down and optimized for the sole task of operating the hardware (which is pretty much standardized) and running games. Regular PC OSes have to be designed to run on many different types of hardware and must perform many other types of functions.

that's also why you needed a 166mhz computer to emulate a PS1 game. The PS1 ran at 33.8mhz, and if you wanted the game to play as well as it did on the PS1 you needed a 300-400mhz computer...just to make up for the speciliazation of everything related to the PS1 console.

Quote from M.Mos :Today i found myself having a bleeding finger. Didn't noticed when it happend, but i found out that the shifter paddels had some sharp edges. So i rub them down with sand paper. Do your wheels had that too?

i think i someone else posted about that. so it looks like that it might be an small issue on some of the g25.

i know that FFB does work in Vista, or at least it did way back in beta 1 (i haven't used any of the newer releases). maybe try the logitech profiler software. i can't remember if i was using that on vista or not. it can't hurt to try...just remember to set a system restore point just in case it doesn't get along with vista.

Quote from Jakg :know what you mean about the Clutch, i rest my foot on the clutch (just like you should IRL)...

Quote from _Rob_ :You should not rest foot on the clutch irl....

2nd what Rob said. You should definately not rest your foot on the clutch IRL. Doing so wears out the throw-out-bearing, and depending the amount of pressure and the clutch setup, might actually be slightly engaging the clutch which could lead to premature clutch wear.

For cards that are about the same price, fastest to slowest

x850xt
x800xt
x800gto
6800 extreme
x1600 xt
x1600 pro
7600 gs

that said, any of these cards will be more than adequate for LFS.

i've got an x1600xt, and i run LFS at 1440x900 with all of the detail settings maxed, and 4xAA and 8xAF, and lowest FPS i've seen was 55fps, at the start of a race with 10 cars. Highest I've seen is 152fps. Average is usually in the 80-120 range, depending on the track.

my computer is a a64 3000, with 1g of Ram, so which ever card you get, you can expect to be pretty close to frame rates i listed.
