Quote from CommandoAir :Thanks for all the help Smile

It seems like it isn't worth trying to skin them separately and I think everyone else does it all as one.

Also, as an off topic question, instead of putting my skins in the finished skins post, would it be okay to make a general post in the WIP section to put all my skins in? It just makes more sense to do that to me.

Yeah WIP section is probably the best. I haven't answered this question in a while but basically we wanted to keep the main skins section uncluttered.

An alternative would be to create an account on a image sharing site where you could maintain a permanent gallery (as opposed to using the forum attatchment function). This way the storage and bandwidth load isn't being carried by the LFS forum server. So, if you are planning on posting a lot of content, please consider the above option.

Here is an example of just colouring the tips. It's far from perfect, but depending on which colours you choose, you might be able to disguise it a little more than I have here...

The thing that the pipes are attached to is the muffler, so it's generally ok for that to be the same colour as the pipes. There is certainly a texture overlap between the muffler and the pipes so you can never skin one without affecting the other. There are few places in LFS skinning where this is an issue (the driver's suit being the most extreme example).

Hopefully the images below will help to highlight how this part of the car is mapped.

It's ok for some people to think it's too expensive, and ok for others to choose to invest in future content (just like most of us have always done with LFS), and for others to pay because they support the project or for whatever other reason.

We've been told there is more content on the way in the near future. Perhaps it will be good value for some, perhaps not so much for others, but we just can't know that.

Nobody has an 'incorrect' opinion, since value is a subjective and personal thing. So why argue? Can we reign this thread in now please before it gets too ugly?

Cheers.

Quote from DANIEL-CRO :1. Create a 4096x4096 skin
2. Put it to your skins folder
3. Load in LFS ...
4. Copy skin to separate folder and resize to 1024x1024
5. Upload to LFSW resized skin using the same name as one that is 4096x4096 //obviously you had to do that before if you wanned others to see your skin, and ever since LFSW accept only 1024x1024 skins
6. Use it online
7. Profit? Big grin

Only purpose of that check it to stop people using skins that others can't see (white car). You can still use 4096x4096 skins no matter what on your own computer (localy), but other people (remote) will see your skin as 1024x1024 version. I don't see any issues/problems with that feature. Shrug

Thanks for telling me a bunch of stuff I already know.

You assume that I want to share all of my skins on LFS World - I don't.
You assume I care if somebody has a white car - I don't.
You assume that I have time to make a low quality version of all my skins - I don't.
You assume that it is all about resolution - it isn't, even most of my 1024 skins are too big for LFS World.

For me this feature is a pain in the arse. If you want to use custom skins it is now mandatory to use LFS World. LFS has always had the best support and features for skinners. Let's face it - it's the only part of the sim that we can truly mod. This feature is no use to me at all. It's an unecessary annoyance. Another hoop to jump through before you can go online. The public server experience has always been so dreadful that I haven't joined one in over five years anyway. If I did join a public server I couldn't care less if a bunch of wreckers can see my custom skin or not, but more likely it is that I'd be lapping alone for an hour and not see another racer, let alone the skin they are using.

Quote from DANIEL-CRO :LOL, you can still use 2048, 4096, ... skins localy Razz

Oh, I'll just stay offline then? You still need a skin uploaded to LFS World to use a skin locally.

I don't like this feature. My skins are too large for LFS World. So now if I want to use my skins at all in LFS I have to make a poor-quality version and then upload it. I'd like to see this feature removed. I also have hundreds of skins so uploading them all to LFS World is not practical.

Quote from danielroelofs :

@Gunn:

Maleisische Grand Prix: Kuala Lumpur, 27-29 Maart
Bahrain Grand Prix: Sakhir, 17-19 April
Canadese Grand Prix: Montreal, 5-7 Juni
Britse Grand Prix: Silverstone, 3-5 July
Hongaarse Grand Prix: Budapest, 24-26 Juli
Belgische Grand Prix: Spa-Francorchamps, 21-23 Augustus
Japanse Grand Prix: Suzuka, 25-27 September
Russische Grand Prix: Sochi, 9-11 Oktober
Braziliaanse Grand Prix: Sao Paulo, 13-15 November
Abu Dhabi Grand Prix: Yas Marina, 27-29 November

These grand prix will be broadcasted live on the BBC. You also can watch them by using the Iplayer app in google chrome. Than it won't say that you are not from UK and you can't watch it, instead it runs very smooth. Although I still prefer a live stream as I think SkySports' broadcast is much more fun.

Those races will be broadcast here too, but I'm going to boycott them because the rest of the races have been hijacked by Murdoch. I've been following F1 since 1978, but it's about to end.

I can't watch the F1 tonight because it isn't on TV. If they want to grow the sport, this isn't how to do it.

Just sayin'.

I don't know how to help you with your particular issues, digitalx, but even if I could, car mods like these are not permitted in LFS and we don't discuss them here. Thanks for understanding.

Quote from TheFirestoneHD :i have a question where i put .psd files????

PSD files are an Adopbe Photoshop format. You can try to open these files in your graphics software and edit them, then export as DDS or JPG to work in LFS. Most PSD files that you download for LFS are likely to be skin files or skin templates, or some other in-game texture.

Quote from cargame.nl :A moderator is like a judge, clean from any assumptions. You clearly are not. I take your reply back to the community and ask who you actually are. Lets see if somebody can explain.

Oh and I did more then enough to improve LFS.

A moderator is simply a person who has agreed to take on the job of mediator/organiser/cleaner-up-of-shit. There is no authority associated with the position whatsover. So when you try to cause conflict on the forum and a moderator calls you out on your snide comments and baiting, they aren't acting from authority, thay are just taking out the trash. It isn't fun to do, it isn't even important, it is just necessary. I don't take it personally and I don't care if you do choose to take it personally.

Indeed you have contributed amicably to the community over the last several years, which is why I find it very disappointing to see your role here reduced to trolling and baiting. Any credibility and respect you may have earned is now evaporating every time you post negatively. This is a pity as you clearly have been a member in the past who has helped others to enjoy this sim. Now you seem determined to adopt the tired old stereotype of the forum troublemaker.

Attacking my own role is fruitless. I have been involved with LFS since way before S1 was released. Apart from moderating LFS forums since back when we were on RSC, I have (and do) run various LFS sites and have poured more than one thousand dollars of my own funds, and thousands of hours of my free time into community-building and supporting LFS. I have helped to improve the way LFS skins are mapped and produced skinning tools and methods which are not only widely used in our community, but have also now been adopted by devs of other sims. I also reproduced the artwork that was used for the LFS shirts. I declined to be compensated for this effort (although reward was offered). I have run servers and organised events within our community. I have participated in almost 400 online races. I own three S2 licences. I continue to support our community without complaint and without any tangible personal benefits apart from making some great friendships which continue to flourish within and outside this community.

As for assumptions, your present avatar says a lot about the type of identity you are trying to adopt currently on our forums. Assumptions aren't required when you clearly want to be 'that guy who takes shots at the devs on their own forums'. Your attitude smacks of 'look at me everybody, I'm doing it again, watch me get banned - I'm somebody'.

That you are also publicly flogging a dead horse in regards to your attitude towards the development of this sim, even though you know that the methods you employ to do so are going to be unsuccessful, is deplorable from a community member like yourself who in the past has been helpful and respectful about such matters.

At the end of the day I'm calling you out on your specific posts in this thread which can't be passed off as discussion about Westhill Progress by any reasonable person who has witnessed your barbs and jibes. If you have a genuine improvement suggestion - post it in the appropriate forum. If you have something genuinely useful to impart to the devs, send them a polite email outlining your concerns. But for the sake of other members who come here to read the progress report about Westhill don't continue to pollute this thread with your nonsense remarks which are obviously crafted with the intention of causing friction. Of course you are not the only one who has done so or continues to do so, but I believe you are intelligent enough to reflect on the nature of your actions. Your recent posts deserve moderation, don't insult your own intelligence by implying otherwise.

*Your most recent post in this thread is much more mature, and in line with what I might expect from a member like you. What's wrong with being reasonable like this in all of your posts?

Quote from cargame.nl :
/ban [how many days its going to be this time]

If that's the only reason you came here - to get banned - we can readily accomodate you. How long shall the ban be? Well, here's where you are in luck! We can ban you for any amount of time, even a year if you like, though it isn't clear how serious a ban you are going for here. Probably you will only want a short ban so that you can get back to being a total nuisance. But that will only get you another ban and start the cycle of time-wasting once again. So name your ban and I'll deliver it to you. We can extend it by months or years if you feel like the level of attention-seeking you are trying to foster doesn't equate to a ban which will satisfy your ego.

A better alternative would be to stop wasting everybody's time, including your own, on bitchy little forum posts that do nothing to improve the discourse about LFS.

Quote from dawesdust_12 :Well to be honest, his response after being told "no you can't" wasn't really appropriate, especially using vulgarities. I don't really know what he expects from a racing simulator. Using a nearly 20 year old game as rationale for this "perfectly legitimate" inquiry doesn't make a strong argument either.

20 years ago a joystick may have only had 1 or 2 buttons, so the decision to use 1 button for both gear changes makes a bit of sense. It's an absolutely ridiculous request in modern time, where even $20 wheels have at least a handful of buttons at fingers reach

Then OP got upset and used vulgarities over the perfectly well formed and rational response to the question. Instead of asking for help with accomplishing his desired (ridiculous) objective, he chose to take the non-constructive route and just curse about it.

And you chose to make a useless post, which is what I moderated. I'm not going to argue with you, so drop it, thanks.

Post reported

Hi, mate. We have a swear filter in place on the forum. The truly shitty words are blocked, one or two tame ones have not been blocked. Having said that, if these words were used in a nasty way towards other members, action would be warranted. But it doesn't make sense to be offended on behalf of an inanimate thing, so in the context of the post you reported there is no case to answer. Thanks for understanding.

I have removed unhelpful posts.

Just for the record, I used to play GP2 (Geoff Crammond's forerunner of GP4) with a joystick using one button. It was the best way to play using that controller. When the stick was in the forward position (throttle) the gear shift sequence was up, and when pulled back (brake) the gear sequence was down. There is no need to ridicule the OP for a perfectly legitimate inquiry. Thanks for understanding guys.
Cheers.

I found the thread but all of this pics no longer work. Here's a YouTube video of how to disassemble the shifter:
http://youtu.be/dJeBq6kqAnU

From all the posts I read on various forums, the most likely cause is loose or broken wires due to PCB (printed circuit board) movement. The common solution was to replace or resolder the thin wires.

For images, search Google Images for "g25 shifter repair' - there are many images there that may be useful to you.

Hope this helps.

I don't agree for the most part that having information in more than one place is necessarily problematic.
I also don't see a big problem with moderators updating out of date information on the forum.
I do agree that redundant sticky threads could be unstuck, though many of the sticky threads which educate about racing rules and ettiquette were the result of players simply not knowing these things. This is still apparently the case, if my recent online experience is any indicator. People are perhaps more likely to read about these things here on the forum than in the manual. I can't recall the last time I used the manual, but perhaps I'm in the minority in that regard?

Regarding the information on the forum; it was due to arguments, disagreements and misunderstandings right here on the forum that many sticky threads were created in the first place, and the same effect can't be realised if the information is only available off-forum.

So while I do favour a cleaner and leaner forum experience, I wouldn't be too keen to sacrifice those sticky threads that have apparently helped to reduce confusion and misinformation in forum discussions.

Quote from oibatha :But is it possible to Stretch bodykit to that, and then u can make normal skin. and at the end convert it to 1024x1024px or 2048x2048px

Yes, you could create your work at the 'stretched' size and then resize image back to the native skin resolution (square). However, some areas of the 3D model suffer more from stretching than others, so you might find these areas look a little strange in your final result.
