I'll recommend a cheap joystick (atleast it suited my style of driving), you can probably get one for under 20 litas if you look around some (it wouldnt be perfect, might need recalibrate often and have some noise (static) but you dont want to spend unnessesary money while filling the piggybank with enough money to buy s2 and a g25.
I think you still want to use the mouse for steering and joy for throttle/break. I had a very large one (so I could get lots of precision) before I could afford a wheel, never liked gamepads, too little precision for anything than rally).
DISCLAMIER: I havn't tried the mouse+joy combo i LFS but asume it would work.
Bob, that macro might work awsome for the break as some cheapo ABS variant.
Exactly my experience, it realy awards full throttle driving, and if it starts to drift thats no huge problem either if you ease of a little or counter steer some (if there is enough road) Its the lift off oversteer that gets me (almost every lap But while it stays nose in front of the engine its hugely entertaining. (I only drive default race setups with my own tweaks and are slow & proud doing 110% wr.
I too tried it way past its time, with similar results.
The very dated Cabela 4x4 outdoor adventure games has very fun car trilal, map navigation, pulling yourself out of a swamp etc. (might not even run on a modern machine though)
If it wasnt OT for LFS I'd rather have icelandic formula offroad, since those cars are more LOL.
I sure hope they don't take driver points (No, Im not a member of the Church of Hamilton, nor an Alonso fan), teampoints doesnt matter so much to me, so they can take all if they want
1. Search2post (it needed a catchy name) - Yes it would be excellent, however I dont think its enough.
2. Sticky the common perpetual threads (those that duplicate every time they fall off the first page). - I think this is the most efficient of all suggestions (best effect from least amount of work). Preferably combined with creating a start post with a brief description and a few comon arguments. This would create a full page of stickies, which is bad, see next idea for a sollution.
3. IS.moderated & IS.public (old usenet idea). Create a new locked subforum IS.moderated, move unique suggestions there, put the unlocked IS as a subforum to this one. - I dont know how much work it would be for the mods, maybe its easy to create an "aprove" button. Variant of this would be to create a subforum IS.trash and move all bad posts there (with a comment on why ofcourse)
4. Lock all spam immediately, with a simple comment like "learn to use search", "learn to put usable subject" etc. - Ive seen this work quite well in similar forums it takes awhile for ppl to learn and TS has a high newb-factor so it might not work at all.
5. Edit the subject immediately when needed, I realy hate those "I got an idea"/"We need this"/"Please devs"/"Scawen!!!!!11oneone" -posts. - I beleve this would be too much work for the mods tough.
6. Rework the "Suggested improvements log" imho it´s useless since it should prevent the current mess and it doesnt, maybe split it up into threads in a subforum (and combine with 2,3 and 5) - This would be alot of initial work, I can volunteer to threadify a coupple of pages if needed.
I cheating and using only 399deg (until I get used to dancing three pedals)
I like the feel of my red momo better, more buttons, better paddles and better leatherwork, thicker and smaller wheel. BUT the G25 has far better pedals (even compared to squashball modded momos) and there is a clutch, then there is the full shifter console with 12 buttons and shifter with realistic reverse gear. It takes less space on my desk when Im not driving too, and dual motors will hopefully give no deadzone in the ff when worn. Also in favour of the G25 is the fact that its fully functional, and the momo is missing a spring.
Correct guess, its one dialogue per replay. (its semi functional after that and removing the icon from the group-by field, the "Building replay list. Please wait..." is still there until I restart though)
I sent you a copy of the full ini-folder, I can try to diet down my replay collection to emailable size If you need more data.
I selected group by, then tried to group by car and then it crashed with acces violation, same on restart.
Oh, almost forgot: It says "Building replay list. Please wait..." behind the dialogue. Address is the same every time. Maybe you can get something out of the screenie.
/Heson - expert on crashing other ppls programs
Edit: I fixed it by removing most of the ini-files. Log-file shows nothing about the bug. I also found that If I let the error dialogue walk out of the window (by pressing enter alot) the program regins focus and I can exit it nicely.
I'm pretty sure I've seen v8sc cars being pulled out of the trap to continue the race, this season. Sadly I don't have them to replay and verify, but I think it was in the wet. Must have been in race one, or I don't see any reason to continue a lap or two behind.
I also vaguely remember it from recent Grand Am races.
Disclamier: sometimes my brain lies to me in very convincing ways.
Darkone55: It's quite easy to create a realistic contemporary F1 track out of the existing ones, just add boring chikanes!
The lack of horrible accidents in the LFSdimension has spared us the saftey engineering, maybe far future rpg elements (exclusion from league in case of virtual driver death) would create a need.
Very nice track (and the scenery), it looked abit too tight for current f1 though (they grown out of almost all circuits). Looked perfect for the ferrari (check the video!).
I'm hoping for an ambulating "European GP", not becuase I want to see F1 at Anderstorp (I'll wait for a new swedish champion before I demand that) but becuase I think the flying finns deserve a home GP, and I want to see F1 at Brands (and other classic tracks). I'm sure the teams can manage a race without tennis court sized pit stalls and that Max&Bernie can manage visiting a town without a five star restaurant - if its only once a year and a new place every year.
I think the white powder i central in all this, it creates magalomania. :thumbsdow
Is this the following story plausible? (or am I just guessing a bit too wild)
Some dudes do good work and is rewarded very well, money fuels greed and pays for parties with cristal, coke and "gridgirls". Easy cash gives a hunger for more easy cash. Same dudes realizes that they know valuable information and tries to sell themselves, potential buyers are not agreeing on the price (the guys are megalomaniac, hence asks for too much)
Dudes now head for the bookies, becuase they know how to make the probable winner fail.
Looks affordable and safeish for your first 50 kart laps. Performance is similar to rentakarts around where I live but probably heavier due to the batteries. I would rank travel times and other conveniences higher than kart quality for newb karting.
Remember to lean out in the turns, not in.
Take away their TC, and their flappy paddles and they atleast have a chance of making exploitable mistakes.
The drivers in the seventies and eighties was at least as talented drivers and they did mistakes.
Diddn't they outlaw ground effects due to the rapid drop pf grip, I.e the crashes was horrible?
The only way to realy limit aero is to have control monocock, or the cars would get more feathers than a hen. But sure bring back the kazoo shaped car, slicks, h-shifters and allow unlimited size simple turbos =)
I would like some way to make more varied strategies possible.
Now when there is only one tyre manufacturer I would like them to engineer tyres that are very forgiving (leading to incidents where you lose alot of time but only almost spin out) but also wear alot when used wrong (punishing bad drivers&engineers with extra pitstops) maybe tyres that has a very peaky grip/temp curve (maybe just causes t1 mayhem on starts and restarts)
Mandatory odd position of the fueltank to give huge weight changes ans the fuel burns off.
Or you could keep the quali like now and shorten the boring parts of the race where nothing happenes, but I mentioned that in another thread.
I want to make driver and team errors more probable, becuase currently they do hardly any errors a following car could take advantage of.
I want to make teams running one stop and four stop strategies finish on the same lap (without any apperance of Maylander!!!!)
I want incidents that is not crashes.
I want to be interested in what hapens in the mid field (thats where the action is, but who cares a bout a driver that takes two points in a whole season??)
1. [Yay play the rookie card] Youre so great that register two years ago, and Im a noob surely.... Skip the BS thanks!
2. Maybe I wasnt clear enough, in context of the precison of other parts of the simulation, tyre brand variations would only be a fake feature. Not the direction this game is going (iterating towards being the ultimate sim without arcadey deviations)
3. Adding RPG elements are a cool idea (I loved MCO) but is very off topic at the moment.
Yeah, you see how hopeless the situation is for this feature. But i dont know after S2 0.5z there might be S2 0.6a, then in a distant future S2 12.7x. Maybe after LFS S3 there will be LiveForGreed $1 (very expensive version) who knows.
To do a Senna - delibarately crash for champinonship win, but yet have a tallented german be remembered for the concept of dirty tricks.
To do a Trulli - humiliate yourself by crashing under saftey car
Trulli is just the latest, many have done the same humorus mistake, I remember vaguely someone spinning during formation lap, who? Anyone wrecking during formation/sc would be even more LOL.
SCCA Runoffs, US national amateur racing championchip ("the olympics of american racing") some 20+ races with very varied classes:
* Formula Vee (good ol' vw beetle converted to open wheeler) with at least three changes for the lead every lap (slipstreaming galore)
* le mans prototype looking cars classed for engine displacement vs. weight (see 5l v8 battle it out against 700cc bike engine powered cars)
* Showroom stock (buy a car, add rollover cage, race it)
And many many more interesting classes. Lots of minor racing incidents, very few major incidents, ralely dangeorus incidents.
V8SC, cars built like grandpa used to build them, tuned with state of the art equipment and budget. Matched with top notch commentary.
DTM, ultra hi-tech silhouette touring cars. Some races turn very boring while others are entertaining.
F1 Qualifying - Nailbiting entertainment. The races are kind of boring unless you focus on the strategies and the mid field battle.
Grand Am & SCCA Speed World - Nice close racing but a tad too cheesy commentary for my taste.
WTCC/STCC/BTCC - very close racing and carnage, on a few tracks this is top notch.
FIA-GT/SuperGT - I dont know if its the lousy camera production or if its the racing that makes it yawn-boring to watch, its usually lots of shots of very nice looking cars driving around with no context.
Rallycross - depending on the tv production this sometimes beats all opposition in good entertainment (The amateur level classes with very different cars shoehorned into one class, couppled with short races, full contact racing)
Conclusion, every class has its perfect track where the racing is top notch and a few wrong sized tracks where there can be no racing at all. However, to realy enjoy a race I need some context, I need to know the drivers and the cars and their strongs and weaknesses hence I have to watch the boring races too (even if I have to admit that I fastforward alot in some races).
Sadly they flattened the corkscrew, so thats no problem now, however most good* us tracks (and there are many) are built for slower cars (touring cars, FOX, GT3), it would become very boring races. Also it would be very dangeorus.
On the other hand pushing the focus of the race to qualifying (now that qualifying realy is entertaining) they could race on almost any track (shrink the tank, give them much softer tyres and cut the race distance in half). I would love to see F1 on laguna seca, mid ohio, road america, watkins glen or lime rock.
*Good means purpose built road course, not converted airfield, street track or oval infield.
1. At the current rate, S4 is a good time to worry about how tyre brands differ.
2. Normal statements about tyre's are "I thank Hoosier tyres (for giving me a realy good bargain)"
Flossy dice hanging from the mirror. With correct physics calculations. Also air unfreshners (wunderbaum), cd's and micelaneous lucky charms.
Occacional animals and plastic bags on the track s for hazard.
Driver fitness simulation, too long stints gives tunnel vision and sometimes blured vision, this gets worse if you enter the mcdrive often instead of the health food drive through. (full rpg implementation)
Ultimate LFS Ab-tastic home workout system (as seen on TV) FFB will be used to give a workout program. Game will vary parameters like track/car/ffb-prower and stint-length for optimal fat burning. (actually ffb is the only exercise I get so I would prolly use the feature.
Flintstones/tricycle/pedal-car simulator (basicly an oldschool sports game sim where you have to alternate the pedals faster and faster to gain speed). Since its sim you have to measure your pedal stroke & force so it can calculate correct power output, could also be use as a 'push to pass' feature for the UF1 (much like you can speed up a pedal-moped)
