Firstly it was very unlucky the spring hit Massa at all, considering possible car positions and timing.
Secondly where is the "white visor" jokes?

Massa shoudnt race when he is fit to race, he should race when he is fit to crash.

On the other hand its good to see he has the determination.

Quote from DieKolkrabe :Duke, they were SCCA Open class cars

Some other news said it was the Pikes Peak model (w/o the cheese slicer aero package)

Xgames rally is more intense than RoC.

Evidence to why its so good: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xbu7JIObokk
Colin lost with only half a second despite that ending oof the lap.

I did a formula experience a coupple of years ago at Mantorp Park, it was awsome. It was pricey eur1000 but I bought the ticket for half price. Vauxhall/Lotus variant of the formula ford with road tyres. Half day theory, half on track, 3 drivers/car so its not alot of laps (3*4fast laps I think). It was day one of a 2.5day rookie license school (the .5 day being a exam). Day 2 is only available in a radical for a heafty eur1500.
Instructors was very competent, one is race director in stcc, the other was a former works team rally driver.

I seriously consider it better value for money than to be nannied in a supercar. (unless you hit jackpot like Scrabby)

Quote from Mustafur :Im sorry but if there was any Scandinavian GP It could only be in Finland regardless of the tracks they have(they will probably have to update) Finland can definetely pull the crowds.

They defenitely deserve a GP. A not so serieous suggestion would be to choose one of the 1000 frozen lakes in the winter. Studded iceracing tyres would look sweet on an F1. (and rip limbs from uncareful pit crew)

Quote from Mustafur :Bernie said he wants the cost cap rules dropped, maybe its possible for a resolution now.

I don't think thats enough of carrot for FOTA, they have gone too far and need more (read Max gone or a veto on rules changes). It would have been enough a month ago.

But it shows that Bernie is nervous about the heap of work he would have to do if there is a breakaway series.

Viva La Revolucion!

Sweet!

This is all about Mad Max, FOTA will only split so far as Max still holds control over FIA. It will end with FOTA gaining control over F1, worst case is via a one year breakaway series stealing the status from FIA-F1. Its most likely Max will fold within a month.

I had my doubts on the power of FOTA, the breakaway series would not get the staus without Monaco, the other tracks are not so important. This was the only showstopper. (I could see, becuase I cant see all the secrest and non secret contracts)

FOTA only needs to put enough "features" to the table to beat F1. The features are things like (in this order):
* Ferrari
* Reputable drivers (previous F1 world champions)
* Other reputable teams
* Monaco
* Other reputable tracks
The more features they show, the more they get. The ones above is probably enough to get the next and the avalanche is rolling (into Max office pushing him out of it)
* TV coverage (if they get coverage, they get Bernie who will provide lucrative deals on better coverage)
* FIA Status
* Formula 1 name
* Power over the rules for years and years to come.

It will be a very expensive fight, but not as expensive as redesigning the car in a few winter months to fulfill "cost saving" rules changes.

When I say that they get Bernie, it does not mean that they automatically get to take all his horrible ideas (like valencia and medals). Bernie is first and foremost a very successfull businessman, lunatic is only a side feature when his work becomes too easy.

Would a super hard tyre for 0-stop strategy give so little pickup that new lines emerges? (i.e you can drive exotic lines to help overtaking, where you now can't becuase it's a graveltrap of rubber there)

I've done that :hide:

It's not as hard as it sounds. The preceding car lits the road and environment so as long as you keep close visibility is quite good.

Full story. The generator (is it called carbon brushes?) was failing and could not deliver power for anything but the ignition and faint glowing of the lights. This was in the middle of the night on a rural road and before gsm phones and I did not want to walk 33km. For the first 7km or so I had decent visibility to drive slowish (70kph), highbeam worked but was dimmer than usual), then I was overtaken and followed that car at full speed (90kph) while my lights got very dim, than that car exited for even smaller road and last 5km was creeping (30-50kph), a friend tried to help with a flashlight (his orders were to light at cars to make us visible)

Yes it was stupid but I was 19 and immortal.

I hope FIA fixes the regulations or soon all cars will behave like <2008 where its impossible to stay close behind in the turns.

It's awsome, I don't know what makes the racing so good. Maybe its the locked rear end that forces them to take diffrent lines (to fight the understeer with oversteer from the v8). Maybe its the quality of the tv production (beats everything out there) that does it. Maybe becuase there is only one bad guy (RK) so whoever else wins I like the results.
The only thing I will miss this year is Oran Park.

Lowndes ftw! (sorry guys I just had to stir some)

I did tech myself this tecnique some years ago (after seeing some vid) but its is a bit counter intuitive so I don't use it. The benefit is that the transisions from oversteer to fourwheel drift to grip is smoother with less risk of "over compensation crash" (i.e where all four grips while you are using full oposite lock, sending you into the armco).
It also upsets the suspension less than turning the tyres over the center line (often resulting in the same type of crash than above)
I've dared to try it in RL, well I have but was going to slow for it to work, and now I drive a fwd so I just mash the throttle to counteract the oversteer by understeer.

Regarding locking the fronts to catch a slide:
Quote from RevengeR :That would require a brake balance pushed more to the front. Even if not, the rear would also lock up. You don't want to lock your wheels too often in the LX, nor in any cars.

You need to counter with the throttle to avoid locking the rears. I did alot of this style of driving in nr2003-transam mod, but its very hard to do in a more complete sim. Its s sweet feeling when you get it working, you're instantly in the zone (until you crash it).

The 917 Gulf and The JPS lotus are already mentioned, but I name them again.

I also love the blue with a yellow swoosh Subaru WRC, I would even drive a lookalike to work without being embarrassed (If I could find an affordable to buy) http://images.google.com/image ... y+&btnG=Search+Images

Im quite sure you can find someone who can build the roll cage alot better than you, so quick that you can easily earn the money to pay him with taxed money in shorter time than it would take you to build it. (is that a comprehendable sentence?). I.e you wage slave on something else to pay a pro that has pro equipment and pro experience to do it.

That asumes you don't have a arc welding cert, or has a life long dream of doing it your self. It does not asume you got a well payed job you can work some payed over time on.

Quote from Overboard Productions :...

You have certenly gone overboard on this. (the namecalling that is)

Watch a few touringcar races, like wtcc, and you see that the standard is "if you can cut without breaking the car too much, you cut". At some very few circuits there are special corners has a no cut rule set by the officials where they give warnings for cutting (mostly becuase it damages the track or pulls up dirt on the track)

The easiest rule is, if the game permits it, its OK. If the game permits eccessive cutting, the game is wrong and should be fixed, like making the suspension weaker, the grass bumpier or the tyres dirtier. (fill the the air intakes with grass and sand).

I want Scavier to focus on the core racing part of LFS (99%+ of all usage) Adding complexity to the code base just becuase some few old cars have the feature is omho bad.
Quote from UnknownMaster21 :For Example, some of road cars can do this.

My volvo has no switch, and the fuse box is in the engine bay.

Flipping TC can be used to heat the tyres by burnout, flipping ABS has no use I can think of.

Quote from TAYLOR-MANIA :Although it's relatively close, i'm not sure if it's the force feedback in iRacing that i'd like to see LFS 'borrow'... i think it's the road surface.

Exactly, the tracks in LFS is way too perfect - or should I say - some tracks needs to have 3d matching the 2d textures. Its the details that makes nK, RBR and iRacing feel so good.

The overall shape of the tracks are very well, nice camber at the apex giving a grip bonus for hitting it perfectly etc. Its just that the tracks are made to run on what is now called historic computers :-)

A bit OT (iRacing) but the offroad tracks in LFS realy needs alot more polygons, its my oppinion thats where Scavier could gain the most per hour spent. (Less polygon bumps and a touch of graveltrap feel would be sweet)

Since its fantacy tracks, the unsmootheness could be added by mathematic functions.

After 10 retries to do a nice race against the AI in the bf1 I realy want this feature. In 8 of the races I retired before t3 (either wrecked by AI or driving into stationary AI), in the two other it took a few laps.

Maybe single file rolling start could solve my frustration.

Quote from thisnameistaken :There was some experiment done to compare talking to a passenger to talking on a phone and the results were pretty conclusive - phone conversations are a bigger distraction than you maybe realise.

I can imagine why though. It's harder to communicate over the phone.

Ive seen several reports (sady I can't find any references) regarding this, all had similar results:

Talking to someone in the car - little distraction
Talking on the phone - huge distraction
Talking on the phone with handsfree - huge distraction but marginally better than w/o handsfree

I would guess texting is the same as talking on the phone with the added not looking at the road. (like Velociround I know what happens when I try to read text while driving in gta4, and that I miss most of the spoken dialogue if I drive fast while someone calls me)

I've had two work mates wreck their cars while on the phone, one tried to go through a newly built roundabout at 70kph (managed to break the speed down to avoid any injury), the other drove into a lamp post on the parking lot (still so fast the car was unrepairable)

The greatness of a BMW can be measured on the lean angle of the grill. Of the given choices, e30 is therefore the better one, easily spanked by e21 and 2002 turbo. (and the droolilicious e24 635 but it's a GT)
