Quote from wheel4hummer :You don't know what sarcasm is.

I know what sarcasm is...most of the posts like the above are not sarcastic comments...

Quote :Learn to spell and punctuate better than a chimp before you attempt to start a new thread.

That's being a troll, not being sarcastic...so were all of the other posts i quoted...do you want me to dig though other threads and post the "sarcastic" comments from throes too? This section of the forum is useless and really needs to be removed...the devs know what we all want...i really doubt they even read any of the shit in here because of how degraded the content is...every thread has its group of ****s who think the idea is stupid because they are 'all knowing' and then flame it to pieces without any intelligent conversation or backing to their view...

I am being hypocritical? Yes...but who gives a shit...maybe in 2021 when S2 is finished they will finally remove "Improvement suggestions" from the forum since they are all useless now anyway...either that or change the name to "Stuff you would like to see but probably won't because the devs have already said they have their own adgenda and that's ok because it is their piece of software and they can manage it as they wish"...

Well...I'm done reading these forums for a while...I always regain interest in LFS right before a patch, get the patch, play it for a while and then get bored again...then I start reading the forums and see how the community has really degrated over the years...then I loose interest...so I'll probably be back in a year or 2 when the next patch is released...can't wait to see how much the forum sucks then :|

None of you have ever heard of the Trans Am series...? The ignorance of this forum is overwhelming...its like every troll from the corner of the internet has gravitated to this forum...once again this section of the forum fails because 80% of the community is composed of smug trolls...

So...I'll just add to it since I don't feel like actually debating real facts with all of you close-minded clowns...

Quote from Hyperactive :And if the difficulty of the driving was the defining factor of new cars we would have never got anything above the XRG.

The LX8 would be a welcome change for a small group of people who really like all the road cars in LFS. As I have said before, an LX8 paired with AC cobra style american car would create an awesome new class. I'm sure it wouldn't be a huge success in terms of full servers but it would be damn fun for those who like those types of cars...

Indeed...I would cream my panties if one day I checked LFS.net and saw the LX8 and another car in its class was released...who cares if it is hard to drive, that just makes it a challenge and a welcome one at that...i've always wanted an 'insane' car that begs to be thrown around in LFS...and the LX8 is just that...why there is a finished car that is just sitting on the devs hard drives puzzles me...

Quote from spanks :it also has no torque

horrible gas mileage

and aren't nearly as mechanically sound as other engines

but hey, everyone loves them

it is quite neat that you just keep stacking them up though..

not mechanically sound as other engines? no torque? where do you get your facts from?

Welcome to LFS, where 99% of the community thinks they are master automotive techs and blunder their way though mechanical theory and spread misinformation to the masses...fantastic...

Lets just throw a wrench into the works...oxygen doesn't push the cylinders down, expanding nitrogen does...

I still think this section of the forum needs to be removed since it really does nothing but create arguments and pound ideas into the ground...after 4+ years I think the devs have a pretty good understanding of what the community would like...

As much as I can't stand most of tomshardware's reviews and such...

http://www.tomshardware.com/ch ... 1617%2C1584%2C1605%2C1563

If you are complaining about crappy performance and video card is not listed on that graph then it's just time to upgrade...

I can pick up a GeForce 7300 for $35 USD easily...and I know a 7300 can run LFS easily...

It's almost comical how some people (mainly those who's computers are not up to par) want LFS to forever stay in the realm of the early 2000's...its time to move on, things progress, things evolve and things develop...if you can't afford a ~$35 video card to semi 'keep up' with technology then I don't know what to tell ya...

You may want to check out Q-See (http://www.q-see.com/), they make some complete surveillance kits that are mediocre for residential use. Their cards aren't as picky when it comes to chipsets as other companies (GeoVision) and their system requirements are pretty low...only downside is the video quality isn't that great and the software isn't as good as more expensive alternatives...their starter kit comes with 4 cameras and a PCI DRV card and only runs about $250 USD...

If you are doing this for a commercial location I wouldn't recommend anything less than GeoVision (http://www.geovision.com.tw/)...

Quote from Bandit77 :So in your opinion we should forget about the skinning too, right? I mean - in the end there's no point but visuals... and they cost bandwith and CPU power. Why do we have buildings and trees surrounding the tracks? CPU power could be spent on more important things like airstream effect on tyre profile...

Did you ever think about the fact that LFS's output actually ONLY HAS three dimensions, namely VISUALS (probably about 98% of the experience), audio and some force on your wheel?

It'd be just an easy way of having a more heterogenous field without having to really add cars. Of course I'm not against adding another bunch of cars to every class.

... but oh yeah, let's rather have the devs add "realistic" features. just like our beloved clutch-temperature gimmick. this was sssssooooo great and took the realism to a completely new level. this made LFS clutches more realistic than real ones.

I'm glad you decided to read way to far into my post...did you do that just for the sake of argument?

What's the name of this thread?

Quote :Different bodies for the same car

What are we talking about?

Quote :Different bodies for the same car

Did I ever mention skins? no

I simply said that different bodies on the existing cars to make it seem like there are more cars would be pointless...

Skins can serve a point...they can help you distinguish driver, team and whatever else...what would the point of having different bodies be other than just to make LFS seem like it has more cars than it really does?

Your last comment was just completely off topic and had nothing to do with anything that was said within this thread...but if you can't understand why quite a few people want a more realistic "RACING SIMULATION" then maybe you are playing the wrong game?

What's the point? They'll still have the same engine under the hood...they will still have the same wheelbase and track, same suspension and same everything else...seems like an awful lot of useless effort to gain nothing but pointless visuals...

If I want to drive a bunch of cars that look different but all handle the same I'll go play Gran Turismo....

Quote from JJ72 :just tell me which car in LFS right now would have a automatic gearbox that's better than a manual.

if they are used in a number of motorsports that's not represented in LFS then it's not relevant.

I'll just quote myself since you are too dense to read my previous posts within this thread...

Quote :I think it would be cool if it was modeled correctly and put in the appropriate car (ie: big tank of a muscle car)...

Quote :That's why I said they would be great in LFS if they were coupled with an appropriate car...

Quote :Again, like I said previously...automatic transmissions would be nice ONLY if there was the correct car to put them in...I can't imagine how boring it would be to drive an automatic RB4 around BL1...

Quote from Woz :Powerglides and bracket racing are all normally restricted to drag racing so yep, when we finally get a dedicated drag car give it a powerglide.

Show me a circuit racing league IRL that is BASED on or allows and people use auto transmissions against people who race stick and where people actually select auto over stick. (BTW I mean ones that have tracks that require both left AND right turns in the same circuit )

I never said they were used in circuit racing...I just said they were used in a few motorsports and that they have their advantages over manual transmissions...

Off-road racing ([baja and the like]not rally) and drag racing are the 2 major ones...I am sure there are more but I don't have time to dig around and find them since I am at work, heh...

With a manual valve body, boosted line pressure and a few other little tweaks a 'slushbox' automatic transmission can feel just as responsive and be just as predictable as a manual transmission...

Let's use the 4L60E automatic transmission as an example since I have one in my daily driver...after just a few tweaks though the PCM it feels like a completely different transmission. My vehicle is way more responsive and doesn't feel 'slushy', it shifts instantly (faster than you can humanly shift a manual transmission) and doesn't slowly slide into gear anymore, it now slams into gear, my gas milage also increased and that's without even touching the engine side of the PCM, only the transmission side...

I'm not arguing with you, Woz. I am just drying to debunk this myth that automatic transmissions are junk...a lot of people have this impression because they have only driven cars that are already underpowered and then slap a automatic transmission behind it and it feels like your trying to drive your car though milk.

Again, like I said previously...automatic transmissions would be nice ONLY if there was the correct car to put them in...I can't imagine how boring it would be to drive an automatic RB4 around BL1...

Quote from JJ72 :making automatic in LFS to cater a "crowd" who think it's "exciting"?

I'll rather see the devs spend time making a LFS Hello Kitty edition, with gay spinning flowers flying all over the track and cute japanese laughter effects everytime you change a gear, it might actually have a larger target audience!!!

No one used the word exciting...

A lot of people on this forum are so closeminded...

You can argue that automatic transmissions suck all day long but they have strong points and some very good ones...they are used in a number of motorsports and offer things that manual transmissions can't...so to say they do not belong on a race track is silly....and to say they suck is silly...

Quote from Woz :We are talking about slush box transmissions here with kickdown as seen on road cars not multi clutched geared transmissions that are really just computer controlled gearboxes that change the gear and blip the throttle and dial in more rear suspension to keep the car settled.

lol

So am I...didn't I link to a shift chart for a 4L60E which is one of the most common GM transmissions?

Ever watch bracket racing?

Like I said, they have their advantages, and plenty of them, just not in the type of racing LFS is centered around...

The old "Powerglide" is still WAY popular with a large group of people so are a bunch of other 'slushboxes'...after all, it's really hard to install a transbrake a manual transmission...

That's why I said they would be great in LFS if they were coupled with an appropriate car...

Quote from Woz :If its not optional there will be uproar because a slush box has NO place on the race track.

Sure it does...just not the type of racing LFS is centered around.

An automatic transmission is way more consistent than a manual transmission it can also be made to shift faster than any human can shift a manual transmission...

They do have their advantages, just not in LFS

Quote from Stefani24 :maybe he didnt say that, but this sim's so great, so why shouldnt we have a realistic damage system?

You're missing the point...you said:

Quote :The Damage system will be improved.
Scratches (Scrapes) included

None of the devs have ever said anything about scratches...they simply said parts will come off...

So your statement is just an assumption that has no backing...

Quote from Jakg :...and who said scrapes will be included...?

Lots and LOTS of people seem to like to exaggerate quotes from the Devs - it's like Chinese whispers!

Yup, and then everyone actually believes what is said weather there is proof or not...and then everyone gets mad when the rumor ends up being false when the next patch comes out...it's an ongoing cycle that has been around since the start of LFS

I think it would be cool if it was modeled correctly and put in the appropriate car (ie: big tank of a muscle car)...an automatic transmission is much more complex than your standard manual...

Unlike a manual transmission where all gears have the same relative holding power due to the clutch...in an automatic each gear has a different 'torque' rating depending on which band or clutch is enabled...

You also have a torque converter that is used as a 'liquid clutch' instead of a standard foot operated clutch...there are standard and locking converters...different vehicles have different stall speeds...different str ratings...

Judging by the way the devs have a vision of 'perfection' i think modeling this would take quite some time

It is not that they are irresponsible, they lack experience.

When I got my license I was in an accident within 6 months of getting it. Cause? Lack of experience....

I was following someone too closely (about 2 car lengths) and they slammed on the brakes at a green light that had barely just turned yellow like a complete moron and since the vehicle I was driving couldn't stop in time I hit them.

Was I a bad driver? No. Could I drive stick better than 99% of my friends? Yes. Did I have enough experience to know that the vehicle I was driving at at the time couldn't go from 40-0 in 30 feet? No...

It takes time to learn how to drive well. Everyone makes mistakes, people with less experience behind the wheel are going to make more mistakes than those who have been driving for some time. You learn how to predict other peoples movements on the road and how to think ahead. These are things that only experience can teach you.

It really has nothing to do with age...it has everything to do with experience...and when it comes to the elderly it has a lot to do with motor skills and other things...

That's not to say that there aren't some kids out there who do some pretty stupid stuff like texting while driving, eating while driving, talking to their friends and doing moronic things in the cab of the vehicle while driving, not paying attention to the road and whatever else kids do...we all know we stupid things and to say we never did is pretty stupid...

As we grow up experence teaches us that doing stupid stuff is...stupid...
