Ok, just to close the thread off. I bought a dual link DVI-D cable and no luck on the resolution. I still had better screen size with the analog cable. So it must be the limatations of the monitor or adapter or a combination of both. Which I'm not going to the expense of replacing because of upgrading the whole system latter on.
Well I used the adapter and success, LFS will display 1920x1200 at 60hz 32 bit. But the down side is the analog single is no where near as crisp as the DVI digital. So I think I'll give the Dual DVI cable a go, it's only $15.00AU and a small price to pay if it works if not I'll go back to the adapter.
Thanks again for your all your help Devil and to the other members for their advice.
Devil, thanks very much for all your help, the DVI cable might be the problem. I have the DVI-D Single Link I might see if I can get a Dual Link if not I'll use an adapter and use VGA.
devil, I do use a DVI cable. I think the secondary driver are used for the second monitor. Number 1 is the primary and number 2 is the secondary.
Sparkydave, thanks for your response. My card is a fireGL Z1 which has the 9500 chip on board but the card itself is a workstation card and not a gaming card. It came my way because someone I know went to PCI express and didn't require the AGP card.
Devil, I uninstalled the omega drivers loaded ati ver 7.3, heres the card config txt
Adapter Select 0
Adapter Name RADEON 9500 PRO / 9700 - Secondary
Use HVS 1
ZBD Select 2
Simple Track 0
and the screen setting keeps changing back to this
Screen Info 1 85 1024 768
the ATI card is dual display but I only have the one monitor
I have two folders I run LFS in this one is patch W
the other is for the test patches which has the same problem.
This is the cfg files in Patch W32
Adapter Select 0
Adapter Name RADEON 9500 PRO / 9700 - Secondary
ZBD Select 2
Simple Track 0
Screen Info 1 85 1024 768
I do have a 24" widescreen LCD, I don't know why its picked the Secondary driver. Also Catalyst control centre doesnt work because of some .Net Framework 2.0 error.
Thanks for your patience.
Managed to update the .Net thing and Catalyst is working but no joy with the resolution it still changes back and to run at 1920 x 1200 it only runs on 16 bit (maybe limitations on the card). and after running LFS I cant get back the desktop resolution. Also I had to go back to the FireGL Z1 drivers to get Catalyst to work so the Radeon is changed to the FireGL. It's also now on the primary monitor. ATI sux, Nvidia is so much easier with the updating and software. I'll be upgrading my PC in about 6 months so I don't want to waste money on a new card, my old Nvidia 5200 worn out, this card was a freeby.
Devil, thanks for the tip but when I change that line Screen Info 1 85 1920 1200 it still doesn't register in the game and the config file goes back to the game setting Screen Info 1 85 1024 768.
My card config is this
Adapter Select 0
Adapter Name ATI FireGL Z1 (Omega 3.8.330)
Use HVS 1
ZBD Select 2
Simple Track 0
Patch W

Thanks for your replies guys. I'll try with a neutral setting do a bit of test driving and if it needs a tweak I'll try for a little bit of oversteer and see how it feels.
I was looking at Bob's setup program and I must say I'm impressed. One question I have though and it might be silly, is with the under over steer setting. Is it better to set the car setup neutral or have it slightly either oversteering or understeering. I understand this may differ from car to car and also driving style, but as a general rule.
Thanks
Comodo. it's free has a combined firewall and antivurus also a spam filter which I haven't looked at yet. I was on Avast with Sygate Personal Firewall, But I changed to Comodo firewall when Sygate changed hands and then decided to go with the all in one package for convience. I've been runing it for about 6 months without any problems.
Like ukg, I've been having problems too, my issue is the lack of fps. with everything scrolled back I get 20 to 25 fps. But get a few cars on the server and I can drop to 2 to 5 fps.
I did the usaul defrag clean the reg. and virus adware scans with no change. System is windows XP, 2.6 ghz P4, 1 gig ram and a nvidia 5200 video card.
Any help welcome.
Sorry for posting in the wrong spot, I'm an old fart and don't start many posts. I'll check with him toomorrow, we may have overlooked the obvious.
Thx
Hi all, a post on a mates behalf. He has lost the left paddle on his DFP and cannot change gears in LFS, he plugged the wheel back into the PS2 and it worked fine on GT4 but not LFS. I went through with him in the wingman setup to match my settings but still no joy, anyone have any ideas as to what may have happened. It was fine a week ago and he hasn't changed anything or installed anything new it's just gone off. The last resort maybe a system restore to a point before last week, but he's not keen on that.
Any help appreciated.
I'm one of those GT fanboys and the biggest disappointment of the gt series is how it evolved. Online never really happened and I use to go to mates places for regular battles, ilink was great but you couldn't use your garage so you could tweak your ride to beat your mate with a better setup. A lot of other crap came in like photo mode, good for 2 secs and then forget it, time could have been spent elsewhere. I could go on forever but then I stumbled on LFS and I have played just about every race sim out on the PC (demos) and nothing comes close to LFS for feel so I'm now a converted PC racer. Which means if GT5 is the best console race sim out there I've save myself heaps because I won't buy a PS3 or GT5 until it's half the price it is when it comes out.
If you don't like a dog that leaves hair everywhere, what about a poodle they have wool and don't molt. They come in small medium and large, and if you look after them like a dog and not a girlie show piece they are great family dogs. My folks have a toy version and its was nearly as big as a Labrador and was a great house dog.
Well after reading through this lot I'll jump on the soapbox and have a say. I read a post earlier that said each to there own, I can't drift and I also I'm not the best racer but when there a group of people racing on a server and then a couple guys come in and start drifting it's very off putting. There are drift servers out there and also vacant servers why come in and become a pain. When these guys come in they are generally just stuffing around or practicing. If I join a server and people are drifting I'll leave and go elsewhere. I can see there's skill involved in a controlled slide and if that's your thing then fine, but please go with the flow and then everyone is happy.
Thx guys, I havn't tried the wheel on any over sims since I've had the FFB problem as it's only happen since the upgrade and LFS is the only racing type sims I have. I used to have a stack of demos of nearly every racing sims I could get but none of them even get close to this one for feel and now that's the problem I'm having. I had my DFP before LFS and it's been fine until now, I can't say it's totally without feel. it seems that it's lost some strength if thats the way to put it. There seems to be nothing for 5 to 10mm of centre and then weak to mild after that.
Sorry if this has been cover before but I didn't find anything on the search.
I've started getting a red message in the top left hand corner of the screen which reads - "Dl:setproperty DlERR_unsupported" or something of that nature. It started after patch 30 if think or it was after that I noticed it. I wonder if it has something to do with controllers as I have now got very poor force feed back on my DFP. I have since gone back to patch 25 and the message is still there and no improvement on the wheel.
Any ideas?
Thanks
