Where were you with your misandrist comments when maldonado and crashjean were wrecking cars left, right, above and center? Damn those noobs have no place in F1 because they are men and therefore crash so often and are slow...
Modelling a car in blender is actually not hard at all. I've done this in just couple of days: http://i62.tinypic.com/28hmttd.jpg
And I knew nothing about blender (still don't).
Basically to get a car to load in ac showroom you need to model the car, do the uv mapping (watch and copy all the 4 videos and doo all the things he does). Then export the model as fbx and open it in the ac editor. Watch the ac editor video in youtube to learn how to texture the car and then just use the formula k as a base. It is surprisingly not all that difficult.
Waiting for someone to make a car model for you seems extremely unlikely.
If you spend something like 10 hours on the 3d model you could probably be already driving it in ac if your physics are already that far. To get it to look good it obviously needs tons more time but to be drivable so you can sit in low poly cockpit and drive a low poly porsche doesn't take all that long...
The thing is the williams was totally crap 99% of the time when maldonado was driving it. And the only occasion the car was a race winner maldonado delivered the win in style that was something most F1 drivers could ever do. Now he is in a lotus that is crap just like the saubers, marussias or caterhams and again the bad car almost completely hides all the talent the drivers could have. Nobody ever cares about if a driver completely drives a superb race in the slowest car and ends up 13th in the race. To look superb you need a mid level car and then finish the races near podium or at least in top 10.
Even ricciardo did look kinda average in the hrt and look how fast he really is now when he has a car that doesn't completely suck. All we know grosjean, maldonado and bianchi could be doing the best job at the moment but because their cars are so crap all the skill the drivers have is completely hidden away.
At the moment those last 2 teams are almost complete career death sentence while the next 2 (sauber+lotus) are not much better. When you are never even getting into top 10 who is going to look at you and say "wow he is doing amazing stuff with that car?". No one. Even massa looks decent when he has that car when in reality someone like grosjean would totally destroy him in straight fight.
So here is my initial list. It is kind of a work in process as I have probably missed few cars that would be better than these. But anyways here is my list:
How do you define good enough? Countless championships in sim racing have been won with far inferior wheels than dfgt. For sim racing if you want sheer speed basically every wheel you can buy nowadays is good enough. But for realism you probably "need" a servomotor wheel like simsteering or accuforce wheels.
Part of the fun is that your choises are limited to what is available in ebay. So if you have really specific car you want you may only be able to get something that is really close to it but not quite or get something different.
So if you don't want to watch the video here is the thing. You have hard 'urned 116000 'murican dollars to spend on cars that that will represent your whole garage. So none of your current cars are included in your garage unless you buy them with this money (and you need to find them on ebay). And some simple rules:
1. you can only use ebay.com
2. you can have as many cars you want
3. no motorcycles
4. if you want trailers etc. you need to include them as well
5. post the links of the cars too
I hope you are as detailed as possible because it is one part of the fun to see what cars other people choose and the other fun part is to hear the reasons why they picked those cars.
I haven't started even looking the cars yet but it will be interesting to see what kind of choises people from all around the world make .
Well I hope not. In iracing I remember several times when there is a slow car for example and you pass him and you never get closer than 1 meter and you still get wheel damage. Or when banging wheels you always get damage.
I really think ac should work on the netcode more before adding damage. In online racing there are always people who never brake into T1 and most of the time if there was damage at least half of the field is done. At least ac could add a gt5 style system where obvious wreckers who are never going to stop would turn invisible before ploughing into pack of cars.
He clearly slowed down for the yellows. The video also shows pretty well what happens if you slow down too much. If it is raining that hard it is dangerous to go too fast but it is also dangerous to go too slow. Even if the rule says you must be able to stop the car on the distance of track you can see I'd still say it is too dangerous to slow down too much. In that instance the track was definitely too wet for racing because of the non-existent visibility.
The problem is that the two waved yellows are maybe used too easily. In F1 we have seen many cases when there is a car way off the racing line and the stewards still show double waved yellows. It diminishes the value when something that should indicate something really dangerous is most of the time just an overreaction.
I think there should be stages of yellows. One yellow when there is car way off the racing track, two when there is a car stopped on the track but not on the racing line and after that the stewards could show the red and yellow waved indicating for the drivers to go really slow. In f1 they could just force that once the drivers see waved red+yellow they could need to drop to pitlimit speed until they see green flag. That would not only keep the speeds the same within the pack (no one gets rearended, no gets punished for slowing down too much) but it would also make it a lot safer for the marshals.
It is just natural that when you see a false alarm going too many times you just get used to that it probably means nothing this time as well. It is not the fault of the drivers but it is basic psychology. It is a known cause for safety failures when you have a system that produces too many false alarms. It has dropped down airplanes, it has caused problems at nuclear reactors and even on your computer if you have windows 8 you get those totally useless alarms about this program is wanting to do x, press ok. First couple of times you probably read what it says but after half a year 99% of people just press ok without reading.
Well that was some seriously awesome racing on troy's server. Especially the last z4 races on blackwood were just epic. I even tried to save on the replays but ac decided that showing 15 seconds of imola scenery is what I want to save and not that awesome 3/4-way battle in blackwood...
I wish the game had some autosave feature and I could just go to the folder after an online session and delete all the replays I don't want. It's not like I care about 200mb replay size if I have like 1tb to spare...
Try some of the good mods. Niels' corvette, supra, nsx. Then some other good mods: Historix, touring car legends. Or totally new games using that old "horrible" engine like game stock car.
And here is what the historix team actually is saying:
Since people started making mods with realistic physics. The standard content and most mod content in rf is just trash but there are some true gems out there. Anything made by niels is just amazing (supra corvette), historix mod is the best mod ever. Have you even ever tried rf1 with decent mod?
The strange thing about the input lag in ac is that it almost feels like an on off switch. If you have it it is annoying because it directly reduces your ability to control the car at the limit. But once it goes away you can instantly get into zone and feel the physics all the way down to the tire deformation level. Some people are immune to input lag and it is not strange to see people driving with vsync, 30fps with all possible eye candy on using tvs which have half a second input lag and claim they don't have any input lag.
Wouldn't call ac sim racing heaven though. The online still needs a lot of work and as far as pure driving goes there is still historix mod for rfactor (plus trillions of tracks) that at least for me is still the perfection of sim racing. And I won't even mention how much better the cobra is in historix mod...
