132 points for 2nd place in a 2330 strength field
Raced with Luke Mclean - that guy definitely doesn't have a passport from Earth; his average laptimes were almost faster than the fastest race-laps of anyone else.

Anyway, I'll probably leave the Rookie Solstices alone for now, save for a few time trials, and I'll move on permanently to the Skippy. If some of the guys in the chart make some mistakes I might even end up in the top 25 for the season, but that's a case of wait-and-see I guess

I know, all of "Northern" Europe is :>
Yesterday we had people from all over the world pop in for a chat though, it was a lot of fun!

It's in the main menu: where home, series, news etc is. There are quite a bit of pre-set channels there

If you guys are missing a certain sense of community btw, I just popped into the West Europe chat and there were a couple of guys in there, they told me they pop in at around 20:00 GMT and just have a chat, and try a few races together. I think I'll certainly pop in every day and have a look what's up. Most of them use voice-chat, so it seems to be a nice initiative to get a nice community-feel going with some off-race chatter :>

Feel free to pop in I guess!

I think I'll focus a bit on the skippy this weekend, although I really want to bring my LS PB down below 1.48.5 and consistent into the 1.48's.

Already have Infineon ready and waiting for next week, and I'm looking forward to that, but I do want to race one of you guys then, maybe we should try to fix a time to increase our odds of being paired up! :>

Quote from Crommi :Did you guys check the latest news?

Yes, seems awesome! I'd really like to race the Radical, but I'm going to hold out on getting it with my remaining iDollars. It might be a lot of fun if the car drives the way I think it will, but it could also be meh.

I guess the Solstice vs Legends will be a whole lot of fun though! Multi-class racing ftw.

Aaaah, I'm loving it!

I just broke my sub 1.49 hex in style:

I run my first 1.48, then I relax a bit, and I do my second one right after that... and another, faster lap after that

No more witchcraft holding me back!

Just keep racing, your iRating won't go up much if you win in weak fields, but eventually you'll be paired with stronger drivers in stronger fields. Also check how many people sign up for the race you're in, perhaps you drive on unfortunate times when only ~12-20 people sign up and most of them are slow

I'm in the unusual position where I think I'm driving with almost the same people every race... perhaps they're just on the same schedule as me

Quote from StableX :at last I managed a 1.29.6 on Summit in the Solstice

nice

I'm currently at the stage where I'm reasonably fast, and very consistent, so I have what it takes to win a race again, and in a strong field, but not when there's an alien in there. Just now again, I finished 14 seconds behind an alien leader, and the 3rd place was 6-10 seconds after me or something. It makes for quite boring races, but I do get a lot of points for finishing 2nd in strong fields

VIR in combination with the Skippy can serious go die somewhere in a gutter, it's as if every single tiny dust-speck on the track will cause the car to go ass-first into a cow somewhere, and the slides seem to be absolutely uncontrollable. Right now I'd feel more comfortable driving a 1000bhp car with no bodywork around the Nurburgring...while blindfolded with my closest friends and relatives on the backseat.

What steering locks are you guys running? I have a DFP with 540 lock, which works great for the solstice, but it seems so sensitive for the Skippy - is that just the car?

Edit: Alright, I set the lock to 900 and the car is much, much, much easier to drive. I drove a 3.09 on my first incident-free lap. There are still some turns though, especially the last or second to last corner, where the slightest lock on the wheel will cause the entire world come crashing down, but it can be managed.

I didn't like how I had to struggle to get a 1.50 on LS with the Solstice though, but a couple of laps later I had a mid 1.49 with a fairly rough lap, so I guess the 900 degrees do help a bit in the fast turns.

Quote from Technique :Damn was that in the rookie solstice? I finally broke into the 1:48's last night with a 1:48.81 and I see where I can gain time, but almost a full second... I'm not so sure

Yes, that guy is no joke, and neither are his last 8 race results :P
More or less all of them were won by at least 10-15 seconds.
Actually, yesterday the guy did 6 races and won all of them, so on top of being ungodly fast, he doesn't need to sleep. Maybe it's the Stig?

Also, yesterday I 'patiently' tried to learn a new car and a new track at the same time:

I'm quite happy that practice incidents don't count :>

Quote from Jamesisinthehouse12 :Gran Turismo 5 Prolouge (Spec II Update) (PS3)
Anyone tried the spec II?
I don't think there is physics updates...

There are no physics updates mentioned in the release notes... it's a racing game either way. There just isn't any car in the game that feels even remotely like a real car, even with everything on pro and a G25 - but that's a discussion probably held countless times already

Just came from a race with Lucian Cimpean - that guy is seriously too fast around LS. After lap 1 he dipped into 1.49's once, and from then on he only drove low 1.48's, with the fastest lap a 1.48.092. I couldn't drive that fast even if there were a hundred horny supermodels waiting for me at the finish-line...

2nd place, but I claim victory over the other Earthlings, and he can take the trophy home to Zeta Reticuli or wherever his mothership docks

I don't know about oval racing... I haven't tried it yet I must admit (and neither have I done more than 10 laps in LFS) but it all seems so confining to me, so frustrating. I'm sure the racing itself can be exciting, but mastering the track for me is perhaps 75% of the fun, and I don't see getting that last tenth of a second on an oval as much of a goal. I'll be sure to give it a go at some point though, because the racing I've seen so far is of a really high level, and so perhaps ovals won't be as bad as I imagine them to be

So I decided that "starting from 6th sucks, so I better qualify faster!" - I take a second off my qualify time, and about 64 people sign up for the race, and sure enough I'm placed in the grid of hell with everyone on the grid having a qualify-time of 1.49.x or lower... I qualified 6th again

The strength of the field sure showed during the first two laps though, everything was silky smooth through the first few corners, and the first 5-6 drivers, including me, were literally miliseconds behind eachother in a disciplined train. We broke off a bit from the second part of the grid over the next few laps, and I had some very neat overtakes for 5th and 4th position (two in one turn baby!) with the two guys up front... eventually one of them spun out and had to cease the fight with the two of us, and I was thus fighting for 4th place with the remaining guy.

He managed to pull away from me a little, but spun out in T1, after which I took 4th place and managed to stay ahead for a good couple of laps (well, 2 apparantly but it felt like ages during the race ;D) until I slipped up slightly and he managed to get past before the Corkscrew again. We were both actually a good bit faster than the guy in 3rd, but only my direct opponent managed to pass him in the last corner - had the race been one or two laps longer I would've taken him as well

Exciting day on the whole! 3x a field of 2k+, and finishing 3rd, 5th and 5th with a new PB for Time Trial, Qualify and Race all at once :>

I don't have the track yet, so I can't give much sensible advice Crommi, but it is a very long lap, with a lot of 'straights' and fast-corners, so a lot of time can probably be won on your corner exits. 8 seconds is a lot though, I wonder what a really hardcore lap would look like

Meanwhile, I'm trying like a madman to break into the 1.48's with the rookie solstice, and I know that I can get a good 1.48.5 with my current technique quite easily... but the last 3 corners are different every single lap for me, I just can't find any consistency in them whatsoever. Sometimes I have a blistering lap and then I just seem to stall in the last corner - the car just won't turn at all. The corner after the cork-screw, I either go narrow and have a mile to my right unused on my exit, or I slide wide and have to do some insane stunt-pilot sh*t to keep the rear wheels from losing traction coming over the kerbs and into the sand. I swear I've only done this corner right about 3 times, and each of those were in a horrible lap otherwise.

Then there's the fact that even though I've driven a 1.49.0xx (which was falsely marked as having an incident when my wheels brushed the corkscrew in a way the game felt was unfair) my consistent laps are nowhere near that time - I seem only be able to do ~1.51.5 in a consistent race. Now, I know I shouldn't cry about that because plenty of people don't drive so fast, but it's just so far off potential I feel like the track just has a hex on me I can't break.

Bleh. Going to do my third race tonight, last time I was fielded with at least 20 people that could drive 1.48's solid...

Okay maybe I'm exaggerating a bit, but it does seems as if noone has qualified anywhere near their own potential :\

Nothing to see here folks!

Tbh the friends thing is nice, but I don't think the system even tries to pair you with friendly drivers?

Either way I think it would be great if they could somehow implement a custom-league system so we can set up a LFS league. The possibilities are definitely there with the system they currently have, but I have no idea if they ever plan on letting the users manage (some of) the racing. Would be ace though!

Quote from jasonmatthews :I suck atm, today was my 1st ever go at laguna, pb is 1.51.18 or something...

Do you have any more LFS names I can add pls?

That's really not bad for a first go!
I had a lot of trouble getting back into LS after a week of Limerock Park, I'm very glad I did a practice before anything else because I went off at certain corners every single lap for the first 20 minutes

It's just such a tricky track, I know exactly where I'm losing time to the fast drivers, and it's just so obvious, but I just can't nail some of the corners, the line is just very hard to get right

PS. Crommi, the signature thing is a good idea!
