Can I just admit now to forgetting to add numbers to my skin?

I totally forgot, no excuses, it just slipped my mind, simple as that.

I'll put my numbers on the car for the next round, promise!

Obviously I hope the punishment is not too severe, it's not like I cut a chicane in Belgium or anything

Stewards, I await your judgement.

Thanks for the racing tonight, especially Darryn and Rob (and Hypothraxer!) who were very fair and clean racers.

Quote from Jakg :How many watts is the PSU?

What will you be doing on your PC? Overclocking? RAID?

Maxtor are notoriously unreliable, and while they should now be made to Seagate standard for a few extra £ I really wouldn't trust it. I meantioned the Samsung because 500GB for £50 would get you either a 7200.11 drive, or for an extra £35 you could get double the space and a lot more speed.

Mobo - i'd get a Gigabyte P31-DS3L, or look on the Scan "Today Only" page - atm theres nothing for around £50 thats good, but they have a DFi P35-T2RS for £70 and a P5Q Pro for £82 which is just omgwtfbbq cheap.

480W.

Overclocking? Yes, probably at some point, although not to start off with.

This is just a gaming PC that will run the usual gamut of PC racing games.

RAID definitely not.

I'll check out the Samsung and Seagate drives, thanks.

Quote from Jakg :What PSU do you have atm? it probably wont be able to run that build.

Mobo sucks.

CPU / GPU is ok, Maxtor=Ewww. Get a Seagate, or look for a Samsung F1 1TB drive - AMAZINGLY fast, and can be had for £85 from Scan.

Sound card = Either get an XtremeMusic (or the "XtremeGamer") or get a cheap-o Audigy - the audio is a bit naff.

Antec TrueBlue? Hope it can. It's not that bad is it? Got good reviews when I bought it.

I bought the Asrock from the strength of reviews in MicroMart.

Will have a look at the Seagate thanks! Are Maxtors unreliable or something? Re: the Samsung not bothered about massive space as I only play driving games Everything else I need to store on it is very small anyway.

Would appreciate your input on the motherboard as I can always send it back, obviously need a specific thing about it rather than to say it sucks as Micromart have said it rocks and why it rocks and I'd like to get both sides of the story if you know why it doesn't?

Quote from hrtburnout :I'm not sure about the Asrock. Also, the Xtreme Audio is basically a rebadged Audigy.

http://jimmyauw.com/2007/01/16/x-fi-extreme-audio-audigy-se/

Thanks for the link hrtburnout, that's very crafty of Creative. I'm still minded to buy either this card or the Audigy SE though as I'd rather use something other than the onboard sound because of the (albeit small) CPU overhead.

Would you recommend another card other than the two I've mentioned?
Self-building a system - any advice?

Hi boys and girls,

I'm building my PC - finally - after 6 years with a Nforce2/XP2500+/Radeon 9800 combo which is starting to creak a bit to be honest.

I'm self-building and have already bought the mobo which is an Asrock P43Twins1600

These are the other bits I'm considering, I guess this machine will be a 'best bang for buck' system.

Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600
Sapphire ATi Radeon HD 4850512MB GDDR3
Geil Black Dragon DDR2 4.0GB P ... x 1GB) 800MHz (4-4-4-12)
Maxtor 500GB Diamondmax2 SATA2Hard Disk Drive 7200rpm 32MB
NEC Optiarc AD-7200S-0B SATABl ... Multiwriter DVD RW RAM DL
Creative Soundblaster X-Fi Series Xtreme Audio OEM

That's about it really - I have a case and power supply - but I'll eventually get this

What I'm asking is - are there any glaring errors there? Should I consider other parts of a comparable price?

Thanks in advance for any helpful comments made!

I don't think you're wasting your time, Jason, I for one am definitely up for it, £100 or so for that much track time is great!

However, maybe a poll will give you an idea as to what everyone thinks? The question being , should we go to Llandow?

Also maybe start the thread. LFS Karting meet 2009.....has a good ring to it!

Looking forward to it already!

Quote from Mackie The Staggie : Truthfully I would love to see it travel up to bonnie Scotland one day (anyone for the north of Scotland....Golspie maybe ). .

I'd be up for Scotland one day, Mackie. Thermals and spare liver packed and ready

EDIT: Sorry for the double post - I was going to make this apology a seperate post but then realised that would warrant an apology for a triple post, and then that would mean.......

Yeah, thanks everyone for making it such an enjoyable day. Well done to Becky for unequivocally thrashing us all in qualifying, and to Thomas for the win! The entire field was quick - every driver was quicker than the best lap time from the group who were on before us! Sim-racers win again.!

Nice to see such a strong turnout from the [SR] guys, hope we can all meet up again next year! Consider me pre-confirmed! I'm definitely going wherever the next one is!

Thanks again to all who made it there, and particularly to Thomas and Victor for making the trip to the UK. Hope to see you again next year!

I'm sorry - I can't make it tonight. I applied a week or so ago for this round but after so long with no reply I figured I wasn't being put down on the reserve list. So unfortunately I'm already committed to a dinner with fiance and friends.

30th of August looks OK though, now I know I'm on the reserve list I'll make sure I'm available.

Apologies again but I can't cancel the dinner at such short notice.

Look forward to seeing the replays! Best of luck with the admin/racing tonight!

Cheers

P.S. JO53PHS you need to clear your PMs matey!

Quote from Bob Smith :A quick question for everybody while I wait for the last two deposits to come in (chop chop Shotglass / Becky) - do we want name labels done like last time, or not? I for one am going to struggle to remember 24 LFS'ers names, plus the organisers names, especially considering I would have only (somewhat briefly) met 5 of the attendees before.

I can try and make them less child-like looking this time, if that helps.

Oh no child-like looking will be just fine

Scribbled in crayon with the hand you don't normally write with too

Good idea, anyways. Is there an itinerary for where to be and when? As my folks live 10 miles down the road so I can be there in a jiffy so will be good to see everyone and say hello and so on.

I did think about getting a t-shirt done for the event with our team's logo on, but I reckon I'll look daft enough in a bright red racing coveralls and dodgy trainers.

Two things that you could try:

1) Use Driver Cleaner Pro to clean out the driver installation then re-install your official ATI driver.

AND/OR

2) I used to have a 9800SE which had similar problems. I used an old version of the SoftMod driver from here

Hope this helps.

Right, here goes. I've looked to make sure this hasn't been mentioned before, so very sorry if I'm repeating anyone's suggestion.

My scenario is very simple. Imagine a 4/8/12/24 hour race (ALMS, Le Mans etc)

Imagine 2 or more drivers in that team racing that car over that amount of time. How does LFS allow it? At the moment I don't think it does. I think the endurance guys leave the server as their teammate joins the server, and then the league admins total up the number of laps by those drivers.

I'd like to have a feature that allows me to jump in the car when my team-mate gets out of the car during a pitsop. Pretty simple sounding, not so sure it's easy to implement. But I thought I'd throw it out there for discussion.

Looking forward to ideas......

Quote from Kristjan.J :I raced with one guy from ICON Racing, they're good IMO. Good luck!

Thankyou for the compliment! Both myself (ICON JOE) and Darren (ICON DAZZA) are looking forward to these tryouts, we both know there are plenty of drivers out there who can drive clean AND fast, it's just a case of finding them and getting them racing with us!

We really want to have a club atmosphere, helping each other with setup, teaching racecraft, and then getting us into competition.

1) Walk 2) Run - that's pretty much our attitude!

Hope to see you all on our server on Thursday night, 19:00 - 21:00

Quote from Pantera70 :We have now set the first tryout session for 5th June between 19.00 & 21.00 GMT...

Anyone interested should check our team forum for more info or by all means drop us a line (do people still say that or am I just showing my age again )

Hope to see you all soon

Just a bump to highlight the tryout session on Thursday night of this week, the 5th of June.

We're looking for clean racers with a passion for sim-racing, come and along and race, and say hi. If you're looking for a team and you think you fit the bill (clean, fair racing) then turn up and make it count!

See you on the track!

You may want to look at this:

Gigabyte GA-P31-DS3L iP31 Socket 775 8 channel audio ATX Motherboard

Ebuyer code 140061

if you don't want to spend so much on a decent motherboard. This one is £41.

Quote from Jakg :Which X-Fi were you looking at? The XtremeAudio is NOT a proper X-Fi, and even a proper X-Fi will not improve the speed of your PC any noticable amount (although the sound is great).

SLi on Intel sockets is a bit of fail atm - only nVidia boards support it (well, lets forget about Skulltrail), and they tend to suck.

If you have the cash for two 8800GT's, get an ATi 3870x2.

EDIT - I'm too lazy to spec up a built, but if someone else does (and uses proper model names rather than "ASRock board") i'll be sure to ridicule i- i mean make helpful suggestions.

The reason I put 'Asrock Board' is that
Asrock WOLFDALE1333-GLAN R2.0 945GC Socket 775 5.1 Channel Audio ATX Motherboard

is a little long-winded. I did put the Ebuyer quickfind code? Ah well, no harm done.

Anyway, maybe this is a better motherboard, certainly popular with OC'ers.:-

Ebuyer 132266
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3P iP35 Socket 775 8-channel audio ATX Motherboard

Anyway, only trying to help, no ridicule please if you don't mind as I don't try to help people only to be shot down in flames. Save that for somebody else.
