i was looking for some info and this is what i can say from what i've learned:
-a well performed drift is faster on sharp turns or turns that require heavy braking.
-on the rest grip takes advantage
-by obvious reasons drift doesn't help on long races
so a good racer should know both grip driving and drift
yes, but you should remember everyone does what they like.
personally i prefer drifting in lfs because it's more exciting, even if i'm not faster.
about that racing is better, again, everyone has different tastes. you prefer racing but i prefer drifting, and so on.
about the drifting a.i., when i drift, i prefer training alone, but it would be nice to have the a.i. drifting, if someone thinks it's a great add for the game.
initial d? try tokyo drift. those noobs watch the movie and then try to drift on every corner they pass.
I like to drift too, but i know drifting is not a racing type, it's a racing technique, can be used to corner faster, specially by braking more lately (i think).
btw yesterday i passed a XR Turbo with my XR GT by drifting , but i was passed again the next moment. I still have to learn to maintain speed on drifts
