I was racing on the silver and up server yesterday and I think the ~50s laptime "cheat" happened because of LFSW lagging. I saw a few pb's achieved on the previous shorter track pop up after the track change. Just a guess.
I don't remember exactly how, but just recently I managed to get about 130 points by joining mid-race and driving just the few last laps. It was the Silver & Up server I think.
This might have nothing to do with the patch but I'm getting a serious amount of disconnects. It's the only way I leave a server really. No other software get's disconnected though, for example putty or miranda. Also I think pings are a bit higher too. The servers which used to have pings of 50ms are now 66ms and so on.
These issues do not relate to the tire model at all. This is something that makes LFS a cartoon ATM. And it's not going to be easy for Scawen to solve, that I'm sure of. Well, good night y'all!
Well I just get frustrated on how easy it is for anyone to pick up this sim and go offline for a few days/weeks and then drive online like an idiot on a (usually)fwd car and be as close to the lap times achieved by using settings/setups that actually represent reality. I need real simulation, in S2 final. I´ll stand up to all the crap untill then. Just a drunk rant, nothing more. Keep developing.
Jtbo is right of course, I hear ppl begging for more turbo noise when I can hear it very very well. Of course the tire sounds help only when you concentrate on making the fastest lap possible, it's no advantage when you're close racing with someone. I guess.
Still people RELY on the tire sounds, which is quite a distortion from a whole sim experience.
Yeah Glenn, I hear you...maybe I should just buy nkp and suffer the consequences!
e: i guess all I'd need is to see purism and LFS integrate somehow...maybe Scawen will give us options on every little detail for leagues and such. far cry.
cheating in my world of simulation. when you can hear every bit of information the tires can give you, mega loud, you have an advantage over a player who focuses on realism. again, this is something Scawen seems to allow so no problem, I guess.
cheating = hearing the tires scrub whenever they lose a little traction
not cheating = hearing them squeal when driven hard - you shouldn't hear them make any noise in the open wheelers. Maybe a little in certain situations (spinning while the engine is idling?). Dunno about the GTR cars, I don't drive them.
If I'm wrong, please correct me with facts. Opinions are fun too!
I really hope guys like these would have to learn to drive according to ALL of the clues LFS gives you, not just the tire sounds. In S2 final. I think that's cheating in a way but Scawen allows it.
Like many other things in LFS ATM.
This is the difference between 1.00 and 0.00 on my machine. The game is paused on the shots but with 0.00 i got about 30 fps and with 1.00 more than 40.
Maybe you're running enough FPS so it doesn't kick in? I know it works on multiplayer. The cars in the mirrors look awful tbh but it all settles down after a few corners. And the FPS never dips below 35 with Dynamic LOD reduction set to 1.00.
Dynamic LOD reduction reduces the level of detail dynamically! So in a crowded start where you would normally get 15fps you'll get 35 or more with the option turned on.
i've never built a cockpit but i think it's good to have a little flex on the steering column to lessen the forces it has to put up with. i achieved this by putting small bits of rubber under the wheel unit. it's a bit harder to make it flex horizontally though. it's not at all noticeable while playing and i'm not worrying so much about the crazy noises i've heard some g25s make.
i took a lot of beer last weekend which resulted in a fractured rib and some shattered equipment which i don't even want to think about. that didn't keep me away from lfs at all though so i can say lfs has prolonged my healing process, if not caused any (other than mental)actual injuries itself.
no seriously i should take a break from drinking & racing but now it's impossible due to the patches scawen keeps uploading! (pls don't stop)
i took it like one of the muroc racers had a little bump with N I K I on a stcc server which pissed him off etc. so actually da hoe was standing up for muroc & good behaviour but infact it turned upside down! that's irony for ya
does this ever occur when you start LFS without any other apps open? if you then alt-tab/shift-F4 back to windows and then back to LFS with a browser window somewhere in there it's most likely to happen, right?
also, do the artifacts appear to be in a solid state or do they flicker and move about?
I never ran LFS with anything other than MAX settings but I think your best bet would be to try this:
graphics options
the top LOD sliders: 0,50 - 0,20 - 0,50
full size textures = no
car and helmet skins = compressed
see if that gets you anywhere
edit: oh and in the misc section check dynamic LOD reduction...it might make cars look ugly but keeps the framerate high on the crowded starts. set it to 1.00 or maybe less. Try disabling fulscreen vsync and also reduce the multiplayer car draw distance
