Might be true, but I'm not so sure about it. I was under the impression for example, that having the ffb strength in the cp set to, say, 75% and the setting in LFS to 50 felt different than having it set to 100% in the cp and to 25% in LFS -- at least as far as more subtle effects like rumbling strips etc. are concerned. Again, I'm not absolutely sure about it and it might have just been a misconception. So I'll have to do a little more testing and see how low I can go within LFS and if I will be able to achieve my desired result.
Uhm, now you made me read through all of this only to find out that my skim-reading skills are obviously not too bad, as it does come down to modding .
I don't really want rain as such, but varying track conditions (temperature, rubber abrasion, wet-humid-dry, dirt etc.) would be an awesome addition. But there's really no use in debating this as often as we do on this forum, as it will not come in the near future or even before S3.
As for the OP: I haven't read the post entirely (lol), but if it comes down to car mods, I'm with danowat:
Almost all of the setups I use are from inferno, because I'm total crap at creating my own, so, yeah, I would be lost too without it. But I still don't think it is necessary or desirable to be able to download them from within LFS.
That's exactly what I want, if I understand it correctly. I want overall lower ffb but without the deadzone-like feel around the centre. I thought that was what could be achieved with a linearity slider?
But my Audi 80 ('88) doesn't have power steering .
Of course, the greater leverage (right term?) of a real wheel will make a big difference, but since we usually only have those kiddy-sized wheels, I'd like to have full precision and a reasonable ffb at the same time.
I reread the thread over at the wingmanteam site and apparently the team is considering adding a linearity slider for the next driver release (whenever that will be :shrug, which would potentially get rid of the lack of feel around the centre. They won't promise anything, though.
Don't know about the laws in th UK, but in Germany (and probably most of the EU) you'd have to distinguish between the copyright (actually certain different rights on the work, but I'll just call it copyright to not cause any further confusion) of the original creator and the new copyright of the creator of the altered work. So, while it is true that somebody who alters somebody elses work can have an own copyright to this altered work, that does not mean that he is allowed to use the original work for his altered work without the permission of the creator of the original work*. It's very logic, if you think about it. Also, I don't believe that any law of any country would state a certain percentage to determine whether some work is one's own.
But actually, I would never think in legal terms about something like skin-ripping in LFS. But common social rules apply imho.
Edit: *) Unless the original work is merely cited in the altered work, but that's a different topic again.
I just picked up my DFP today and after a few laps it seems I'm already getting the hang of it (at least in the XRG which I'm driving mostly atm). I'm currently using 540° of rotation and it doesn't seem to hard to catch slides that way (at least in the XRG), which was my main fear.
Anyway. What I actually wanted to ask: I also had this problem with lack of FFB around the centre. So I set overall strength to 101% in the cp and it sure helps quite a bit. However, even with FFB set to only 30% within LFS, I think that FFB is a fair amount too strong overall now. It doesn't feel very natural to me. So, if I understand it correctly, the problem with the lack of FFB around the centre lies with the drivers, so there's nothing one can do about it, unless the wingmanteam changes those. Correct?
Taking into account that there's also this other problem with AA and AF (when going to windowed mode and back), there seems to be a problem with patch V I guess. Or has this happened to anyone before?
Exact same here! And that's exactly the reason why I like to "wear" my license status in the signature, despite of the fact that I'm usually not pro pictures in sigs.
Yeah, the XRR is the best looking, imho. Mainly due to the long hood, I guess (a departement in which the FXR is severely lacking). Too bad I can't drive it at competitive speeds and mostly use the FXR among the big GTRs (if any at all). The FZ5 is not bad, but I feel that something is wrong with it. I can't put my finger on it, but somehow it looks rather plump to me -- especially if compared to a 911 or the Maranello.
This is something I have been asking myself several times also, as it seems to happen to me rather often, sometimes with me being the one in front, sometimes with me being the one behind. When I'm in front approaching the turn and I'm not absolutely sure where the (faster) guy behind me is, I sometimes make a subtle move to the inside to find myself slightly nudging the competitor. And I do think that I probably should have made the move before any overlapping had occured. However, if the car behind has not achieved enough overlap at the turn in point, I would surely be the one entitled to take the ideal line which would mean, the guy behind is at fault in case of an incident. Right?
When I happen to be the one behind, I would usually move to the inside a little while getting alongside a bit in order to put pressure on the guy in front. However, I would leave a little room in order to have enough time to back off in case the driver in front attempts a blocking move. And if it turns out that I will not be able to achieve enough overlap in order to have the right of way through the corner, I would back off before the turn in point.
Anyway, I guees what I'm saying is, it seems to be a tough one to call if an incident happens. I'd be interested to hear what others think about this situation.
That's some serious footwork, alright . I do think, however, that the people standing around and running onto the street have just a little too much faith in Walter illepall
I was always a little nervous at the start of every OLFSL race I took part in (my only league experience). But it usually went away after the first few turns and only sometimes came back during very hairy moments. Or sometimes towards the end of a race, when I saw the racer behind me closing in lap by lap . Actually in those cases I even get nervous in public pickup races. And I even screwed up because of that a couple of times in the last turn of the last lap and lost a place or more. Probably the most annoying thing that can happen to you
But on a more serious note: I don't think we need the 07-model. It looks pretty much the same as the BF1 (to me at least) and it would probably drive pretty much the same. And having it just so we could say, yeah, LFS has the 07 BMW in it, is not a very good reason to put work in it, imho.
And I've seen probably three times as many on this forum in the last week alone who just got S2 licensed after playing the demo for a while (let alone the ones I have not actually seen on this forum). Plus about three cases where demo users were accused of being crackers when in fact they weren't as it turned out later.
@andybarsblade: I hope you don't think it makes you a better person to have bought a product without making sure that it would actually suit your needs or preferences. And if you were offended by my earlier post, I appologize. That was not my intention. I'm just sick of this constant slanging of demo users and the unjust accusations.
total -1 from me, as I think it would achieve quite the opposite from what you're expecting. I think with a system like this, less people will be buying S2, because the community discriminates against them for having spent less money than others.
Thinking about it, part of this community already constantly discriminates against demo racers by insulting and badmouthing them, which is bad enough.
