I haven't had any problems with patch V. No stuttering, no freezing whatsoever. LFS does seem to run more fluently (less of this slight warping of other cars), but I'm not 100% sure about it, so I voted "same as before" when I should have voted "definitely not worse, maybe even better" - which is not an option, of course
Plus: I think the problem Quint999 pointed out - and which has been pointed out before - is actually a large part of what and why we're discussing the whole system here. We're trying to find out what would be the best way to run such system without locking anybody out from the LFS experience. And this is done despite the fact that any server owner could actually do whatever he or she pleases without asking anybody. I think this shows already that the danger of a division of the LFS community because of a bunch of tiered servers is not as present as it might look at first glance.
Edit: Slopi said it already, but with a slightly different weighting
And while I'm still at it: If the tiered servers should turn out to be the most populated while others remain incactive, then that's a community decision! Like "voting with your feet", in a way. It might not be the "majority" of players, but instead a large portion of the most active ones. That however is a quite natural effect. It's the same in democratic elections: People who don't vote are not represented.
Oh, wait, NOO!!!
I just realized that I will probably never get past bronze!!!
OK, stop this whole licensing business right now, scratch STCC immediately!!!
Free servers for free people!!!*
But the bigger problem is probably that of the whole appeal and sanctioning business. I can imagine this to become a shitload of work and there would have to be enough server admins who are willing and capable of doing all the necessary but unpleasent things involved ... The way this is handled will make or break the "LFS online career mode", I think.
That's a bit odd. Unfortunately, I don't know much about these things, but what people sometimes suggest in cases like this, is making sure there's no spyware and all other sorts of unpleasent stuff on your PC .
Also, there is, imho, no immediate need for dual core support. LFS runs fine in rather high resolutions on a E6300 with a halfway decent graphics card. I've got a [email protected] GHz and a 7600GT. With all graphics settings maxed out and AA and AF overkill, I get an average of around 55 fps with a full grid of cars on 1680x1050 resolution and my fps rarely drop below 50 (even on rallyx courses). So it should be more than playable even on low end systems if the graphics settings are adjusted accordingly.
@stevewhite: what are your AA and AF settings? Do you have draw distance set to minimum and dynamic lod reduction to maximum?
I have nothing against Fern Bay , but I do agree that track changing could be a little less often. It might be just fine for people who know all the tracks by heart anyway, but for drivers who don't put in 20+ races a day it's really hard. I probably need between 15 and 30 laps depending on the (previously unknown) track to get within 103 % of the WR time. That is when I'm alone on the track, so the number probably goes up quite a bit under race conditions. For me that means, when the fun part and the points collecting could actually start, the track changes and I have to start over again
P.S.: sorry for not contributing anything on-topic, but maybe we should change the thread title rather than trying to get back to the original theme
I, as an only occasional driver, am strongly against this!!!
Actually, I'm exaggerating, but I don't particularly like this idea. Some weeks I don't get to play at all and on others only once for a couple of hours and I'm not really the fastest out there. But I'm not rude or dangerous for others either and would like to see my license status progressing, even if ever so slowly.
Still I can see an offline career mode being of some benefit not only to new players, but also to the community. Because if you in fact have "beaten the game" (or at least part of it) you're more likely to be in good shape for the online experience. Also, I remember that when I started LFS, I was quite reluctant to go online, because I was afraid to be a nuisance to more experienced players. Of course, racing offline against the AI wasn't much fun, so eventually I had to jump on a server ... which was good ... so maybe the crappy AI does have it's benefits after all
Actually, mine even start to oscillate steering on the blackwood backstraight in the BF1. I don't know what that is all about ... Probably trying to heat up tires as they're not much faster than pace car speed anyway
I doubt that. It's true that they can hold a slide in cars like the XRT, FZ5 and LX6, but, honestly, who cares if they constantly crash into you from all possible directions, block you, cut you off and take banked turns at 50 % of the possible speed because they're not aware of the banking illepall.
But still I don't see that as a major flaw, as we know they will be considerably improved before S2 goes final and LFS is all about online play anyway. That's where the fun is .
lol, sorry, but I don't believe that. No offense intended, but It's one thing to write stuff in the forum about how well *I* behave under race conditions and how well *I* obey to racing rules and how well *I* can stay in perfect control of my car in T1 and that it's always *somebody elses fault*. Acting accordingly on a server in the heat of the battle is something completely different, though - as we all here on the forum should know just as well
I completely agree with you on these points. I am also one of those ppl who are a little disappointed that LFS has not progressed any further in the past year. However, basing ones criticism of LFS on false assumptions is not only annoying but also harmful in a way that reasonable and debatable points are less likely to be recognized. Thus that kind of critcism does not help the progress of LFS in any way but quite the opposite.
And just for the record: I don't agree with seinfeld being banned from the forum. I read through some of his recent posts and must say that while his criticism was usually not very well substantiated, I've seen much worse posts from other users who were not banned. But that's just my opinion of course.
You really have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. Please try to read and *understand* the Test-patch threads and you might just find out that nobody ever said the current sounds were "fine for the next few years".
You are really annoying and might end up being the first person ever on my ignore-list.
I don't know how the barricade exactly goes about reviewing a replay and what exact measurements they use before they decide on a ban. I do however have great faith in the ppl involved and am very sure that all the "stewards" are well aware of their responsibility and are not a bunch of ban-happy admins who boost their egos by banning the poor sod who occasionally causes a crash because he missed the braking point for T1. And if in fact someone goes full throttle into T1 because of a conrtroller malfunction (or anything else for that matter), he or she can always explain while still on the server. We all know that shit happens, and from what I have seen so far, people are usually very understanding regarding such incidents. So, the bottom line for me is: The barricade might not be the ideal solution but it's the best we have for a non-ideal virtual world. So I'm fully supportive of it .
Speaking of it: Does an iB-logo exist that people can put on their car skins, SamH? I remember that it was dicussed a few months ago to have a logo saying "keep your server barricaded" or something. So is there one and if yes, where can I get it?
I was once banned from a server because an AI accused me of wrecking and instantly a bunch of AIs - must have been five or six of them - pressed 1 and gone was I ... I think they also called me n00b and all kinds of names which are too dirty to repeat in a public forum.
Talking about graphical updates: iirc, the RB4, the MRT (maybe) and the LXes are still waiting for a complete overhaul like all the other S1-cars. So it shouldn't be only interiors for them, I guess.
Well, probably yes, as said on page one of this thread, only we called it "clipping". I'm no sound-expert and I had to look up "clipping", but whatever it's called, it's very unpleasent and can't be considered normal. Maybe you could double check if we're talking about the same thing by listening to a full field of BF1s from TV-cam view? "Clipping" or "distortion" gets very bad on the fast straights when the windnoise gets louder.
I'm having the same problem with BF1. It's happening all the time in TV-cam view and often enough in in-car view. Master volume and WAV are set to 50% and in-game controls to standard (except for tires which are set to 1.0). Apart from that the BF1-sound is pretty much spot on now, imho.
I think I noticed a little bug that has been there at least since U33 (maybe even earlier):
When watching an spr with regular external view set to "my" car I don't hear anything until all the AIs fire up their engines. I think one should hear it if there's only one car revving it's engine.
Nice patch btw
(If this is nothing new I appologize, but I never noticed it before)
Recording somehow works now (only mono and I have to set it to "microphone" instead of the appropriate "stereo mix"). So, here's the weird sound "off the line" I was talking about (just shortly after the recording begins):
