I headed down to the corner at the end of Lakeshore yesterday to check out the race. Missed the beginning and couldn't see a damn thing (just like when you buy a ticket to that place, can't see dick all) but it was interesting none-the-less. Lots of attrition. Caught Tag's flip with my own eyes.
I wish Toronto's circuit was more spectator friendly. It's a great track in a great location (5 minute walk from my condo, I can see it from my doorstep), but there's nearly no point in actually going to the race.
I've just got a new computer with windows 7, and it's got some really annoying habits that I'm sure have to be changed somehow. I'm running a dual monitor setup, and I've got my start bar and some icons on the secondary monitor. However, every time the computer starts up or the seconday monitor is turned off everything moves back over to the primary monitor. How do I prevent this? Really annoying thing, XP never did this. I thought running Ultramon would prevent it due to its 'preserve icon location' feature, but no luck there.
I was going to sign up until I saw "Console Quality Game Play." That's definitely not what I wanted to see.. By the sounds of everyone, though, this sounds like the same old Supercars + Race tracks gameplay. I guess not for me anyways.
ROFL Bet that guy's getting a good ribbing from his buddies now...
[EDIT] Oh yes... I bet the riot would have happened win or lose, to be honest. Didn't Colorado see rioting after they won the cup several years back? Vancouver is a city filled with ridiculously stupid people. Canadians that hardly get any snow in the winter.. brats! :P
In the end my father opted to go with his familiar store and get a custom built machine. He's the one paying (it's a grad present, hooray for earning my degree!) so I'm not going to throw out any complaints.
The final specs are:
I'll upgrade in a year or so if I find I need to, but at the moment I'm only really playing RBR and LFS so my gaming side is a little low on resource needs for now. Too busy working to get into anything new.
Does anyone know about FirePro cards? They're specific to CAD/3DSMAX type applications, but how do they perform for gaming? Should I stick with a gaming card despite my high Solidworks/Photoworks/Shot/Photoshop/Illustrator use?
Solidworks, in my experience, is much heavier than Photoshop when you really get into it. It's load is highly dependant on the model you're working on, and then rendering can be a lot on top of that (especially with huge presentation renders). PS is intensive, too, though, all the same.
I've had ATi cards for years now, and they've been really good for me, but I'm open to all options. Nvidia seem to be more popular though?
The rig will be for Solidworks, Photoshop and gaming, so it needs to be powerful. Any particular component recommendations? AMD or Intel? I've never had an nvidia card, so I don't know anything about their cards, either...
Thanks for the input guys.
[EDIT] I'm looking in the ~$1100 range, as fast as possible in there.Tower only; no monitors or keyboards or anything.
I've been long out of the loop on new PC technologies.. haven't looked at much since I bought my current rig... over 4 and a half years ago. Things move fast.
Out of these options, which you do think is better? I'm so out of the loop, I can't even make sense of these anymore.
Option 1:
Option 2:
I've obviously looking to go as fast as possible. Thanks guys!
A good friend of mine is now 37 (38 in October I think) and he just graduated two years ago. I met him when I was in my first year, when I was 18 and he was 32. He's now a journalist for a newspaper in BC. It's never too late.
As mentioned, just go slow. It took me a little while to get into the swing of things but I've never looked back and RBR is by far the funnest game I've ever played now.
IIRC Loeb only has one win, as does Hirvonen, and Ogier has two wins this season. IIRC.
How is that not entertaining? What WRC needs is more media coverage, as I recall in the UK it is on one of the silly channels. The BBC stopped covering the sport 2-3 years ago which shows you how WRC and the FIA have failed to publicise it correctly.
'Tis a shame, because this season has been phenomenal. Really exciting.
I'd say it's actually been quite exciting, and I love the current stages. Interesting you talk about it being a girlie sport right after you suggest making it safer...
Not that hillclimb is bad or anything, but I love rallying. Purpose-built stages get a big no from me, but I'll always be in favour of more stages and faster cars.
I never played the first, or the third, but I loved the second one to bits! Great news Somewhat ironic, too, as I was talking to someone about the series the other day...
I can't see any cars out my window; all I see is our little second floor terrace thing and other high-rise buildings :P Initially I wanted a view of the lake, but this place was nicer than the lake-front buildings and because we're on the third floor and surrounded by buildings we don't get the noise from the Gardiner Expressway, the Streetcars or the nearby train line (which is very busy as it feeds Union Station). Worked out pretty well, I'd say
I've got some pictures before a lot of stuff was unpacked, but nothing as it is currently (still a little bit of unpacking to do). It already feels like home, though. I'll get some more pictures at some point soon.
Coincidental that there's so much move-in talk on here... My girlfriend and I just moved in together. Renting a gorgeous brand new condo in downtown Toronto, right by the lake. We love it here.
Actually pretty excited about this one. It'll be a couple months before I can afford it, though... Probably at least that until I have time to play it, too.
