Can't deny I'd love to have one of those. Especially the qualy ones that had like 1200 HP, way too little downforce, and NO driver aids.

...But it might be pushing the envelope a bit too far.

6-7 FPS at turn 1 in Blackwood? Hell, I get that with my Pentium III. illepall

I think it's not a matter of hardware, it's a matter of your graphic options.

Quote from MAGGOT :I hate F1, and have since.. well, since the rules changed and the cars got gooved tires and were forced to be much narrower. Of course, I was too young then to realise what great racing was, I just liked fast cars.

I have great respect for all F1 drivers, always have, so that's not the reason I hate F1. It's just boring to watch. And it's not just the lack of passing. It's the lack of attempts, lack of close racing in general. Not to mention the only track worth a damn is Spa. Monaco and Monza have both been raped by FIA.

Anyways... the BF1 will not renew interest in F1 for myself, and I won't be driving it very often, just like the FO8. I like tin-tops, and Prototypes.. and slower open wheelers like the FOX. That's what I'll keep on driving, and watching

Spa, Suzuka and the new Turkey circuit are the only good ones left, if you ask me. Yeah, Turkey's a GREAT track even if it was designed by that sad excuse of a track designer called Hermann Tilke. The same man who raped Hockenheim, Imola and who designed Sepang, Shanghai... tracks I'd drop a bombshell into. illepall

The BMW-Sauber isn't a slow F1 car. The Midland is slow. The Super Aguri is slow. The Toro Rosso is slow.

BMWs ended 4th and 6th at Australia. That's good.

Quote from Gobby :Me again

Toyota's turn to make an appearance on servers near you.

I've spent lots of hours today getting this right. The red spiky bits don't look too great on the skinfile but its pretty accurate on the car.
Jpeg artifacts don't help much with lots of red either.

Anyway, enjoy

That one looks tight!

I don't know a thing about skinning, but I do know a thing or two about Formula 1!

And I believe that some of you guys, if you have some spare time, should try to make the skin for the Williams winter test car. Here you go:

It has a nice retro thing going. And it's the most beautiful F1 car I've seen... too bad it ain't seen on race days.

What do you guys think?

Quote from Qurpiz :I'd think FO8 would be little easier to drive with the updated physics. Not much, but a little.

But then again, any form of driving (yes, not playing) LFS with kb is blasphemy!

I'll buy a wheel when I have a PC up to the task.

800 Mhz isn't exactly cutting-edge technology nowadays, isn't it?

Well done, buddy.
So how do you think keyboarders will do with the BF1?

Honestly, I think it's gonna be quite a headache for some folks out there. 750 BHP, rear wheel drive and 600 kilograms... illepall

I'm getting money for a decent PC, a good wheel and the S2 license myself.

Quote from ATC Quicksilver :Who said Hill was useless? He almost beat Villenerve in a bloody Arrows, easily one of the worst 2 teams on the grid, only lost because his throttle cable broke....and he won a race in the Jordan.

Villenerve won in the best car and best team, since then he has been slacking...and he caused a big shunt in the last GP, he has no track awareness.

Anyway Alonso is better than Hill + Villenerve put together.

I did. And I'll give you that... Hill almost won in the Arrows, which would have been history hadn't his engine not blow up on the last lap. Still, old Vilnoo was more entertaining to watch, plus Hill faded much quickly than Villeneuve. Have to admit Jacques has been decent this year, even if Heidfeld is kicking as arse.

Quote from SchneeFee :i still find villneuve is one of the worst worldchampions of the last 20 years.

I agree. Definately not as good as Schumacher, Hakkinen, Senna, Prost, Mansell... however I think he's better than what Damon Hill ever was. Hill was useless. illepall

Fernando Alonso wouldn't be a fair comparison since he's so young. But he's on his way to being the youngest Double World Champion ever it seems...

Quote from Trunkz-Sa :No ! Even a P III 667 /FSB 133 is much faster than a Duron@800Mhz.
No matter if 800/100 or 800/133 PIII is MUCH faster than a Duron @ same frequency.

Silly me. I mixed up the Celeron/Duron with the Pentium 3/Duron equivalency.

Quote from Trunkz-Sa :with my old PC (2003) i just got a 800Mhz AMD Duron, 256MB SD / Leadtek Winfast (GF2-MX175!).... a Pentium III with same frequency kicked my ass.
in 800x600 min details...7fps @ start / 12-20 in Race. After I overclocked CPU and GPU I got 10 @ start / 15-30 in Race :P......

Now that's odd. Supposedly, Durons are faster than PIIIs at the same frequency.

Probably the game isn't optimized for AMD CPUs.

Quote from farcar :And the amount of flex on the chassis is quite amazing considering how stiff F1 cars are. Or the Jaguar might have just been crap.

The flex, I think, varies from track to track config. On Monaco they allow a lot of flexibility to the chassis because the track is so twisty, but on something like Monza (lots of straights) they use a much more rigid chassis. I think.

Quote from filur :Also regarding sound, lower your sound acceleration setting to basic, this really boosts FPS especially in situations featuring many sound sources (grid).

Works for most people i've told to try.

Start->run, "dxdiag", tab "Sound", acceleration to basic.

Hey, didn't know that.

Gonna give it a shot! I'll tell you how it goes.

BTW, kickass avatar!

PS: Well, it didn't help much. ~10 fps with 6 cars on the starting grid, regardless of the acceleration setting. Guess my computer is just helpless!

1 hour a day max.

However, I'm pretty sure that whenever I get a new computer and a wheel, those hours are gonna increase... just a tiny wee bit.

Quote from zeeaq :I absolutely agree upon this one.I have a P III 660 Mhz, with 196 MB RAM and some shitty on board graphics (must be 4mb) i guess.Well for me my sytem delivers about 10-20 fps....its not very pretty looking...all settings are on bare minimum.Often i come across diiferent peoples system configurations on the forums and wonder how it really would feel to play on an awesome 1.5gigs machine witha deadly graphics card and using a wheel for controller. But i don't feel bad i dont have these.I still enjoy playing LFS...infact it keeps me up all night....and still have a blast on demo servers and ya if there are more than 4 ppl on the grid... i am forced to start from the pits....but thats the best part....starting from pits and finishing in top 3...jus like kimi:woohoo: ...

many people here say..."get a new machine....get wheel......get s2 and come into the light"....one reason why i cant do all that "now"...is i simply have to many other financial commitments...i will just be finishing my under grad. in 2 months time....and getting a new machine or a wheel or s2..jus doesnt fall in my priority list now...although i long for that day when i 'll hav'em all....

there is no doubt LFS rocks......with an ancient sytem like mine and a demo version in hand with keys as controllers i can hav soooo much fun...then how wld the nxt step be ......

Try this at the starting grid:

Do a quick Shift+N. It will disable the sound, and will give you a big FPS boost when surrounded by cars at the grid and at Turn 1. It works for me and my computer is old too (PIII 800 mhz, 512 RAM, Radeon 7500) As long as I hit the straight at Blackwood, I press Shift+N again and I get the sound back.

Quote from redbullf1 :Put traction control on the formula v8 cars because the are like formula one cars.

The Formula V8 car has like 700 hp per ton. An actual Formula 1 car has like 1500 hp per ton. Also, the tires on Formula 1 cars are wider and the aerodynamic grip is much higher.

So, with all due respect, what the hell are you talking about? illepall

Being a Formula 1 fan, I'd love to see one of the last F1 V10 3.0 models.

The bad thing is that these cars have such crazy HP figures (around 950 HP, something like 1500 Hp/ton) that they use TCS in the races... yes they are allowed. So the TCS would have to be programmed and embedded into the car. And with TCS and all they'd be a bitch to drive!

Another thing is that there's very few spots on the tracks in the game where you could really let such a beast go wild. Unless the programmers put an imitation of a real track like Spa Francorchamps or Suzuka...

Kinda difficult, but I'd love to see that.
