Quote from mrodgers :Depends on what you want to do. You can climb a much steeper grade when using an 80's Toyota with a triple Marlin Crawler transfer case all with 4.70 (I think) gear reduction and a manual transmission. You literally put the thing in first gear and climb out. Let the truck climb the hill or rocks all by itself . (I think Mike whateverhisnameis who engineered the Marlin Crawler said he was running 1056:1 low range ratio, a long time ago)

Here we go, 1371:1 low range ratio. He's in this video in what they say is "13th gear" which is 155:1 ratio.....

HEHEEHEHEHE!!!
If they model that then i'll eat my hat.
Good stuff though!!

Quote from PioneerLv :Yes, you will be able to do it. And idea about clutch was mine I suggested it on Easyco forums.

Although the ironic thing is you have more control off road if you use an AUTO...

Quote from The Very End :That looks damn awesome

Lets hope they keep to their Q1 2008 release date!!!
Just had a quick read thro the forum, I hope they can get a decent clutch added for extra realism. Also like the idea of it not being a race. Just go and drive the terrain.

Quote from tristancliffe :On a slightly related note, does anyone know of good (and ideally, but not necessarily, free) software package for wiring diagrams?

Not interested in PCB design or conventional wiring diagrams, but more vehicle wiring schematics, to be a little more precise.

I work with older (simpler ) cars, but the wiring diagrams are either small, cramped or in poor condition, which makes solving wiring issues a lot harder.

I would very much like to redraw them at some point, and would like software to assist on this. I know I could use normal CAD to copy the diagrams, but what I'd really like is software that will work out wiring paths for me. I put in a whole heap of components (from headlights to connector blocks), and join them up with straight lines (very messy at this stage), click OK, and it routes the wires into nice simple paths that are easy to follow and annotate.

Does such a thing exist in the near-freeware market? I can't find anything that seems to do what I want on various Googling sessions.

Sounds to me like you may have found a niche market. Know anything about the autocad programming language autolisp or VBA?Perhaps you could write your own and make some money..........

My old system was useless too.....
Athlon 3000xp 1gb ram and a 128mb 5900xt.

BUT now i've got a Q6600, 3mb ram and a 8800gt it runs a dream!!

The demo is great, i've got used to not worrying about the gear indicator and revs, just driving by the sound. Got to be honest the scatzzo (or whatever its called) sounds cool, especially blipping down the gears.

I'm almost at the point of wanting to buy it!
However, I think i'll hang on.

Quote from JO53PHS :I basically just wanted to find out some more stuff about CAD

Like Dan, ive been using AutoCAD for years, since R10 in good old DOS, and TBH I wouldnt use it for anything much than 2d drawings, the more fancy 3d stuff will hit you hard in the pocket.
AutoCAD can produce complex 3d surfacing drawings but not overly complex 3d solid models. For that you'll probably need inventor or mechanical desktop.....

It will take quite a while to learn the fundamental basics then the 3d stuff.....

You've got AutoCAD lite which has all the 3d functionality of full blown autocad stripped out, that costs £500 ish (full autocad is much more)

Bottom line there is no free/cheap option........

We got 2 Nintendo DS consoles just after christmas, it was bought with Mario Kart, but do you know of any other decent driving games out there that we can link together?

BTW the other drivers are Wife and 2 kids, 3 & 5!!

Andrew

Also interested if there are any other good games out there like FPS?

Quote from DaveWS :Yeah exactly. 30 fps is pretty good at the back of a full AI grid (cpu limited).

Thanks, it turns out ive maxed the graphics settings on the card and it makes diddly squat difference, so i'm certain that the single core thats running LFS is struggling to get anymore than 33.3 fps!
Still shouldnt grumble..

BTW it doesn't seem like a stuttery 33 fps once we are off the grid its still very playable!!

Quote from Jakg :Even if you set the drivers to "High Quality" AA will NOT be enabled. You have to do this manually. Your PC should be chucking out WAY more than 33.3 FPS though.

I'd install the the proper nVidia drivers (if it were me i'd completely ditch the Dell drivers and install the latest 169.28's) and nHancer.

I do find it ironic how you live in Evesham and bought from Dell though :P

Are you talking about Evesham.com...?
Wouldn't touch them with yours....hehehe
8800 gt help please!!

My lovely wife has just bought me a new Dell XPS 420 as a present!!

Its a Quad Core Q6600 2.4
3gb ram
512mb 8800 GT gpu

Runnning Vista Premium

So far so good!!

ATM the driver is the default one shipped from DELL

However, my problem is adjusting the settings within the nvidia software. No matter which setting Eg Performance or Quality, I still get the same fps (start line of SO1 at the back of grid with 20 FBMW its 33.3!) I therefore dont know whether AA or AS is on or not etc.... I was hoping that if I selected Performance the FPS would be significantly better, but there is no difference!!

Any ideas

BTW is there any point in downloading the latest official Nvidia driver. I was also considering nHance or whatever its called to change the driver settings that way

IMO i would reduce the size of the OZ decals on the front spoiler so that they spread onto the little winglets..
other than that looks pretty good

oh one other thing, i would reduce the size of the front 2 green squares above the bumper so they dont spill onto the bumper!!

My wife works for a gas conversion company, but they now also import these. Now, I've had bikes before, BUT this thing was an absolute giggle to ride. Top end is 60mph flat out! Very flickable. I'd have one tomorrow but they cost around £7000 so too much for me.

Quote from JTbo :It is well worth it, when you get it set properly (need to install projector upside down to make it correct height) it helps in realism HUGE amount as you can use good fov setting, 80 in that pic I attached.

Going to set it up again tomorrow!!
Unfortunately we cant get as close as your photo as we dont have any where to put the projector. It needs to be on the ceiling, or have a proper projector stand which is at least higher than head height when we're sat down.

BTW slightly O/T, the dfp seems so dinky and toy like after a g25

We've had a couple of collegues having a go in FBMW round BL1 and its been a laugh trying to coach people!!
