Paint it black, so it doesn't stand out. It is what all of the cool kids are doing.

Quote from FPVaaron :Not completely related to topic, but some times I get bored and like to setup the RB4 as a rock crawler, even with locked diff front and rear, when trying to get up that steep hill on the FE chicane the car will spin as if it has an open diff.

If you want some fun, set the RB4 to RS200 gear ratios, use a rear biased centre diff (I go for 35/65) and a soft road going suspension setup. Top speed is blunted quite a lot, but it is fantastic fun to throw around a tight track as it is just pure power sliding action.

Quote from PhilS13 :10 years ago if you asked a dealer here why cars were so much cheaper in the states he'd look at you like you like you were some sort of retard and go : "duh it's the low canadian dollar value".

Now that USD=CAD nobody really saw the prices go any closer to what we see south of the border and that includes EVERYTHING not just cars.

At this point I gotta assume most canadians are either too dumb to realize they're getting screwed on a national level or they just like it.

I believe it is all just tax now. Much like the UK. If you can buy stuff tax free it'll be unbelievably cheap, but we pay tax on other taxes.

Quote from alex_du_77 :So i'm taking information about these cars and i've discovered that the cars with transverse mounted engine can't send more than 50% of the torque to the rear wheels.

The Ford Escort RS2000 4x4 is transverse and it has a 40F/60R split. It is all down to the gearbox and differentials used.

I'd put £5 on it not being the gears damaged by parking in gear. If they ain't movin' they ain't wearing and because you use the car regularly and had oil in the box, they won't get the time required to seize up and cause damage.

Quote from Jakg :My Dad's had another suggestion... I always park in gear, and so it's been pretty much permanently in gear for the last year and a bit. She's never laid up much (being my daily drive and all) but my Dad mentioned that I might of damaged the idlers (or something like that).

He's also had a look at the driveshafts and declared them working fine.

Suggestions?

That is why you use gearbox oil. To damage the gearbox you'd need to bleed it dry and allow the elements to get into the box to rust shit up. So assuming you check gearbox fluid at your annual (or 10k, whichever is sooner) to make sure you actually have some, that isn't a problem.

Quote from S14 DRIFT :Also Mr CRAZYman how much did you pay for those old wheels and your power boosting brake kit? Foiltac ones?

The wheels and tyres are one hundred and twenty five of my Great British Pounds. Which is forty Great British Pounds than replacing all four corners with super cheepo tyres on the standard van wheels.

The brakes are genuine Ford parts, the plan was to uprate the front brakes, but I changed my mind as I've only recently put on new discs and pads. But I might have got bored with a pot of paint and made them go faster. They were thirty five of my Great British Pounds.

Ford Escort RS2000 Mk6 wheels with Toyo tyres x5. Don't have a photo of them, but this is what they look like.

Ford Escort front brake callipers x2. Painted them red because it makes you go faster.

Quote from ColeusRattus :I guess the britons are more lax concerning wheels than we mainland europeans.

Just to clarify: at least over here, it's illegal to drive with two different wheels on the same axle. You can use different wheel front and rear, but not left and right.

As it stands, you can mix and match tyres as you please (although it is not recommended). The only rule is you cannot have direction and non-directional on a driven axle. But to give you an idea of how lax tyre rules are here, tyres deemed to worn for mainland Europe get shipped to us and sold super cheap as pre-worns, because the legal limit is 1.6mm here.

I never said FWD was better than RWD, but the arguments for it in that article are BS. And a the Crown Vic was never a great police car in terms of putting down its power, handling or braking. But police forces didn't change them for the same reasons cabbies in NY don't want to move away from the Crown Vic. They are seen as iconic to the trade.

Quote from Dygear :Cad != usd

As it stands CAD is worth more than USD. So it should be cheaper in Canada than America.

Quote from Gabkicks :Protein powder to keep my muscles from breaking down during Extreme gaming!

Buy milk powder and mix it with a normal milkshake mix (for a 1 pint serving I use 4 tea spoons of powder to the 2 table spoons of milkshake mix), blend it up and blamo, it has more of everything than Protein powder and costs a shit tonne less.

This money saving tip was brought to you by the British Athletics Society Magazine, circa 2006.

Magnetic sump plugs are quality. Really show you how much metal gets munched over a 10k period. Which is rather alarming really. D:

Quote from theirishnoob :its weird, seeing someone jerk a wheel like that and not spin out.... 1 touch of my wheel and your backwards...

Probably because they wasn't really playing the game. None of the input controls related to what happened on screen. The sharp jerk of the wheel when old guy was playing was a reaction to what the screen was doing, not a result of his input.

Not all that old, a lot of Fords still use the output shaft. The speedo cable can be found on the top of the gearbox.

Quote from S14 DRIFT :hehehehe.

on actual topic;

I'm gonna get pulled for those am I Mr Physcoman?

Going by the ebay piccy the font look incorrect, but they are near as makes no difference spot on. You won't get pulled for them unless the cop is on commission. If the cops there are anything like the ones here, they only pull for blatantly illegal plates (Silver on black on the wrong year car, daft fonts, silly pictures all over it, etc.), or if you're getting done for speeding or something of the sort, they'll inspect your car to see what else they can ticket you for at the same time.

Also, it is spelt P.S.Y.C.H.O.

Quote from Crashgate3 :Beer goggles - causes any woman viewed to appear attractive

I don't believe in beer goggles, women don't become more attractive as you become more drunk, your standards just drop so low when drunk you don't care they are a mess.

Quote from RiseAgainstMe! :Whenever I lose large amounts of time in my memory, I wake up in my friend's bathroom... no idea why not my own, but I guess it's smarter that way

I think it is better to wake up in someone else's bed, the last time I got seriously drunk, I decorated my bed in vomit, if I crashed in someone else's bed, I wouldn't have to spend a couple of hours cleaning the room.

Just to clarify, you keep saying it was just idling, does the engine still rev up, or does it idle even with WOT?

It does sound like your clutch has let go to me. Being hydraulic they can auto adjust until you completely run out of friction material, at which point they just drop off the cliff. Although I've not had many cars to work on that used a hydraulic clutch where that happened (two of the 18 hydraulically operated clutches I've replaced), but I have come across vehicles where it happened.

Unfortunately the only way to check is to pop off the gearbox, which is a 5 hour 30 minute job, start to finish (using book times), so will cost a few pennies at a garage.

Humans are homing pigeons. It just takes alcohol for us to use that ability. I've got so drunk in the past I lost all memory for a 24 hour period, but some how I managed to wake up in my own bed.

Quote from bunder9999 :but everyone started buying the impala instead.

I can't blame them, the 2nd Gen Crown Vic and the 8th Gen Impala are some of the few American cars I'd happily own if they were sold in right hook guise (the rest are SUVs and pickup trucks). They aren't drivers cars and the interior is lacking compared to European vehicles, but something about them, I quite like.

What about that? It was posted on the ukmkiv/v/vi forum and we've all been having a right old laugh. Only thing is, I used to see that car every day as it's about a 5 minute walk from where I work!

BLERGH! I hope the owner didn't think that is what a Ferrari 360 looks like. That is the most disgusting thing I've seen for a long time, nothing fits right. Your Corsa was somewhat less chavy because whoever ruined it actually did a good job, not a slap dash project.

Two quick examples for you.

When I want back to college to be a mechanic I thought being 23/24 was old, but a guy there was 30, he join the Navy in his teens as a Marine, retired at 25 to start a family and got a job in a factory, didn't really enjoy and when that business went tits up he decided to retrain at college. He has since gone on to get a job with Ford.

The other example is mummy P5YcHoM4N. She went back to college in her 40's to give her something to do as she was bored and the course was free for over 30's. She really enjoyed it and her tutor pushed her to take it further. Roll the clock forwards a few years and she graduated university in 2007 at the ripe old age of 47 as a conservator/restorer. She did some big works with various museums, went to Greece and Spain for a bit and has used that money to start her own business. Okay her business is not related to the course, but the confidence (and capital) in going back to college and then university meant she was able to take the risk.

It is never too late to retain and generally you do better when you're a bit older because you're matured.
