Show us the replay!

Seriously, "The Very End" may have problems with english, but doesn't seem to be a bad guy or even an ignorant. Admin of the server talks about people who don't care about others, yet still kicks a player also because his own "lack of patience after being taken out 20 times by cars standing on the track".

In case The Very End is talking the truth (about standing on grass or in a pit lane, not on the track), the FM oval V8 Xsiv server will probably don't have "many players almost 24/7" online too long.

Well, after all, it's the oval right? There are loads of ovals to die from boredom, if that's what you like on LFS, The Very End.

Cool review, more LFS on TV please!

Quote from KiDCoDEa :Any chase cam can be considered dumb, but there are ones that are well done, and others badly done. fixed makes it more faithful to the sim.
this is so factual, there isnt even a place for discussion.

im done with this suggestions here.

I don't know if you are a game developer yourself or where are you getting your skyhigh selfesteem, but since you are done, let's move on topic.

Just like Gunn said, the chase cam is apparently here only for watching the car. Me, doing such a game review would use other cameras more often. I agree that the chase cam does not prove the sim qualities of the game. But the use of wheels cam was great IMO! Everybody talks load of crap how damn realistic they game is - I say show me! From the wheel cam I could clearly see that the player really HAVE to do the driving and the car perfectly listens to his actions.

I use the chase cam for reviewing accidents in replays, along with the heli/top view. With a distance adjustment it would be just perfect. I don't see the reason for removing it altogether.

Quote from Gunn :I repaired my MOMO pedals no less than 14 times over a 9 month period before finally throwing them into the corner. They've been gutted, drilled, chopped, bashed, shaved, filed... you name it.

.....most problems with Logitech pedals are hardware issues. The design is really quite good (I've been designing pedals for several months now and it isn't easy to put everything into a compact space) but the materials and engineering are totally low-budget. Cheap components and way too much movement where there should be none cause wear and tear resulting in a premature end to your pedals.

Gunn, I have the similiar problem with my MOMO pedals maybe. The problem is that the gas pedal doesn't return to the full released position, causing the game reading the 1-15% throttle from it. When I opened my pedals to explore the problem myself, I have found that the pot seems to be twisted by a small degree, when properly sitting in its place. When I removed it and manually turned, DXTweak2 confirmed smooth values with correct min and max margins reached. Just after putting it back in place and checking by pressing the pedal, DXTweak2 revealed that the pot cannot reach the zero value. Or only very rarely.
All and all I guess the problem might be in the not so perfect pot fitting. Some forum posts recommend the use of glue here - Mozso at his site doesn't recommend it, to avoid a too big strain on the potmeter.

Another imperfection I have found and been thinking of fixing, is the questionable gas pedal movement in its shaft. While the brake pedal feels great, thanks to double springs perhaps, the gas pedal shows all kinds of sideways and other unwanted movements. Mozso fixed it with a tape - I'm not so sure how long such fix will work, since there are no bearings and the friction will damage the tape IMO....

As you can see, I desperately need to hear your experiences. Eventhough you basically recommended to throw them to the corner ( ), I would love to hear your tips to fix my gas pedal.

Thanks in advance to Gunn or anybody else who can help.

If we are talking about the 1 and only (or 1 of a few) LFS posters, I dont' like the idea of night race, which is not available in the game (yet).

Other than that, I really love this picture, can imagine it as being pretty wanted poster in any games store

I support Aircav. You may say that this is no competition, but you also cannot deny the fact that people do compete somehow. Whatever reasons they have to sit down and make the skin, and post it around, they would have something in common: they wonder what people say about it. People come to see and compare. CMX viewer aliased shot certainly cannot compete with the rendered skin on an eye-catching sunset background. BUT!
Gunn is right too, those amazing pictures showcase LFS, no matter how wild editing has been done with them. Those pictures feed the addiction for LFS players and starts wondering of those who did not fall into the LiveForSpeed addiction trap, yet. Alltogether, I believe they help the promotion of this great game, too.

(I do realize that the wild yellow car, looking so damn hot on a render, will look just ugly greenish ingame, especially in daylight tracks - blue sky reflected on car will tint it away, but this is not officially the skins competition, so I don't mind)

Quote from varjsa-9 :About giving some "extra" points for fastest laps - in other words, to "Our Champs".. maybe we should do that finally. I originally dropped that idea because I thought that the guy who wins the pools, automaticly does the fastest lap also - which could have created a "Schumacher-effect", one guy dominating leaving no chance to racers behind. This has been proven to be wrong idea several times after that. Besides, if someone really is that good, why should he be "penalized" for that anyway

I totally agree with that. I am dissapointed with movements in F1 due to the Schumacher, although God knows how I "like" him.

For a number of points gap between pools, I have no idea what everything can influence the fair scoring (slower cars, longer races, accidents... must be a load of variables to take into account), so I just believe that the current points system is good.

Eventhough some facts I can see in score table are questionable for me, I would have to put some more serious investigation and done races analyzing, to be able to post here any real critics. And more importantly, suggestions for an improvement.

Berca, did you make this excellent motion blurring yourself, or you just used the DirectX trick? It does look suspiciously perfect on few details.

I'm coming from the 1NSANE community, where the track creations were alot easier since the game used a simple grayscale PCX for a height information (displacement maps from 3D world) and a colour PCX for a kind of surface and textures applied. The results were very simple compared to the pre-designed tracks like we got in LFS, of course, yet still there were outstanding user-made creations, pushing this relatively primitive approach to its limits.

I wouldn't be affraid of ugly, incomplete and, simply put, useless tracks. I would look at it as at skins making - tons of really questionable creations, but also few of amazing artpieces, which can compete with great default skins for sure. Give the people a tool to play with, you will be surprised how much time and talents they will put into it.

You can find such pictures from Dosch Design (hard to find others

Thanks for the tip!

So, the background we see on pictures is spherical mapped env map? The hires explains fairly good quality and sharpness of it, but what surprises me is almost innoticable distortion from the spherical environment mapping. Top class job mate.

America is simply too far away from Europe. I'm quite happy that LFS is british game.

Which does not mean I wouldn't welcome a bit of exotica in it. :bartsimps

I love the RB4/Citroen Grudd!! You say the reflections in last pic are too strong compared to the background - heh if you didn't mention I would never noticed it. I am doing this task for a job (architectural visualizations and photomontage) yet still I can't tell if you used the same environment for reflections as for a background (it would require taking panorama photos from the place of the max camera, stiching them and editing to add the ground and sky, plus using 1 of the pics for a background of your render/composition) or just found such a perfect match. Perspective, lighting, and even such a detail as the ground pattern reflected on your car are outstanding compared to many funny tries we can see around. I love it.

Bring some light to that process, it made me wonder.

That skin rocks ingame, I saw it yesterday on XRR.

Grudd, you are 3D man, so I hope you can hear some comments to your renders. Isn't that FXR kind of too shiny? Even tyres got so much light that they look like they were reflective.

I've obviously tried to search for this but didn't find anything. An idea comes from another online game with extensive chat use:

Any www.something.xy/whatever links could be active

so you can click and open the associated application (browser, image viewer...). Would have sense mostly in windowed mode. Since there is the copy/paste feature already, it would make sense for the forum links for example, which are mostly too long to write by hand...

Quote from Gunn :I like this idea. Maybe a single air horn blast that echoes over the infield...

Brilliant idea, this horn would be heard inside your garage too, so you can't miss it when hurry making last fine tunes to your car. The horn blast followed by the few seconds pause. (And when you are outside on the grid, you will also hear the spectacors crowd getting excited)
:laola:
Then normal 3,2,1,start text.

Just not the "Start your engines" or these arcade annoying things please. If the S3 would yell at me in this WOWish style, I would throw the computer outta my window probably. illepall

There is a picture with Octavia and few other details I know so well (living in Slovakia), where are you guys from actually? I know the guy who made the BW woman used at one of your pictures, Marek Denko. LOL this was pretty surprising to me. Is it just DON and his photos from Czech republic? Are you from Germany as your profile says? How did you find Marek's pic from www.grafika.cz then?

You are the Guru Bob. But anyways I agree with ORION in case of the static friction. I am almost sure that devs got this issue pinned on their monitors and from what they offered so far, we can just safely wait a bit for the next stage.

I mean, of course I have never even touched anything near to GTRs in my life. The most powerfull car I could try was some old Maserati Biturbo. But I still think that if real RWD cars handled exactly like S2 model, we would see many spinning Ferrari, Jaguars or even M3s on the street. (Not to mention american cars, which are not so popular here so I don't see them outside)

As you can probably tell, I'm all but the profesional racer. This is just my personal guess, which I would love to be commented by guys who can really compare with real, vibrating, smelling, pushing you to the seat racing cars.
