Does the time run so fast for you too Scawen? To me it seems it's crazy, I'm 1970 and my 2 years old son already says "Daddy, cars! Computer sleeping?" (translated) and guess what he wants. Yep, he wants to see your lovely game again. Well, I never resist too long.

Thank you for your talents and wish you a mad success with your game, and in your life. Happy Birthday!

Just like Tristan wrote: "The realism, and the restrictions that that brings, is what makes it so much fun."
I would add my personal experience as another example of the above - when we play like we really had to "pay" for a car and eventually repair costs with my LFS friends (not necessarily the racing), once you really get to believe to this assume, huge adrenaline wave floods your veins instantly. Imagine that you can loose everything in case you crash, and then try to be a hero pushing it at T1.

This is what I imagine if you say realism. Asking devs for reset or restart buttons in online event and justify it by saying "it's just a game" is not my cup of coffee. I hope it makes any sense.

Hmm.. do we mean the same title? *ran to googling*
Google refreshed my bad memory - kill me but I didn't mean Black&White, it was Grim Fandango, quite different story LOL...

ONTOPIC:
I am not sure how many of LFSers ever played 1NSANE, but that game is still alive thanks to the fact that community can make new tracks. While it's not simple task at all (which throws away many unpatient noobs), there were quite many gorgeous tracks made. After a while, best guys get known, and you are basically just waiting for their new tracks then. LFS tracks can't be more different from 1NSANE "maps" but I kinda feel it could work well... long years of constant fun, no matter of the age of original game.

Quote from Lible :Well, I guess Scawen didn't get it working, because he added required strings for it after patch U18

Oh I will have to discuss this with Monkster then! I would love to deny use of reset for our upcoming InSim powered server. I thought there was no safe way to detect it. And even if there was, I don't want to penalize those who press it, I want to turn it off completely. Forced Shift+F mode would be great serverside option as well.

Quote from AndroidXP :"we hotlap together"

LMAO

Quote from AndroidXP :...the cars are really treated like single-use cans of metal (becaue they are) instead of a racecar you have to take care of. Crash on T1? No problem, Shift-S and continue. Had to evade T1 crash and got stuck in sand? No problem, Shif...

These are exactly reasons why I started the "take care of your car" gameplay idea. I am happy to say that thanks to mad InSim programming skills of LFSlapper author, Monk, and wast of suggestions and ideas from many more LFS players, we are finished and going to public within few weeks.

Quote from tristancliffe :Getting stuck in the sand IS a turn off in longer races, and the cure is to drive in such a manner that gets you to the end of the race. If we know we can get away with stuff, be it hitting kerbs or escaping from gravel traps, then we'll drive much less realistically - i.e. closer to 'the limit' all the time.

And go to hell already with your "end of my fun" guys (not you personally mrodgers but all of us)! Almost every online multiplayer game is about this "fun" for winners in expense of less fun or sometimes even deep depression of losers. I admit it's not so great fun to be slower than all other racers or to have 1:10 kill/lose ratio in military games. But as I have heard (yeah not my own experience lol) guys who are too fast compared to others got no challenge and get bored after a while.
There is no light without the dark. I don't mind to retire from the race sometimes, especially if it was my own stupid mistake which send me on the sand. It's fair and I will try better next time. What's the problem?

Quote from 96 GTS :Scawen and Eric both worked on Black and White, I believe they're both in the credits. I also think they both quit thier jobs, but not 100% sure about Eric

Really!? I loved that game! Stands out of all the other boring "cheap effects for stupid masses" games!

Kind of offtopic, or better said against topic
I have read somewhere that there will be a "NO RESET" option as a server setting for next patch. It's not in U20 dedi server yet though. Will this get included in V patch?

No arcadish things in LFS! ok ok, as an option, of course.

I found FE GOld with XFG/XRG, 6 laps. ICE server (german)... forgot exact name, but it was excellent race with very close battles at 1st/2nd and 3rd/4th positions. Not many who joined actually finished single race. I don't really understand this "join for quick action packed race" just like I never understood "Quick Race" buttons in other games. illepall I always picked "Championship", but maybe that's just me. Every kid is in such a hurry....for what? the grave?

Quote from flu1d :I'm for option 1. I come from a game called quake3 cpma. We don't have very many mappers, but when a new "good" map gets made it is added to the offical map pool for cpma; and given a new name (cpm21, cpm22, etc). I think this would be a good idea because many lfsers I see around on this forum have different ideas and suggestions on what they want out of the game, and forcing the community in one direction (what the developers want) isn't exactly the best way to go. I see that many people would like initial D style mountain passes, and some want larger city free roam tracks ala midtown madness. Personally I wouldn't mind seeing some stupid stunt tracks with ramps, etc. But this would all have to be accompanied by a download system from the server; eg. you automatically download the track when connecting. And when new well made tracks get introduced, they should be put into the "official" game.

I like the landmines idea! They would add important strategic element to the racing if they were limited amount for one race. You could stop backdrafters from gaining advantage from sticking at your ass, which is gay, but with landmines you just press the button and bam! It would also encourage clean racing, since you wouldn't need to make zig-zag patterns on long straights.

Oh yes wreckers, I hear you say. But I think that it would not in any way have negative impact in an act of wrecking, because now wreckers just block the track, with landmines they could just mine the track, giving you the better chance to dodge.

Before you hardcore elite VIP sim maniacs burn me down in flames, please consider how many people would buy LFS if it has landmines and how many dollars could devs earn for their living!

edit: LOL good one, hey there tristan!

Quote from Woyta :You mean this (left side)? I can fix it to form on righ side. But form on right side isn't draved corectly.

I made road signs by editing those chalk arrows, they look good. It's DDS file, made for our upcoming project.

Quote from xWolFx :Not bad of a layout, maybe see if MaxH likes it and he might use it on our C I T Y L I F E by CLC server.

Exactly, change is life!

Quote from Tweaker :I think it has some good ideas, but I honestly don't think it is spacious enough, and a bit too compact to be fun.

The roundabouts are little squares, and you really need roundabouts to have 4 different exit/entry points to it, like a cross. And it needs to be big. Some of the highway off ramps and on ramps are really cramped and oblong shaped, just kinda strange.

I think you have good ideas, but the layout could be improved, and your object usage could be decreased to improve other parts in other areas.

I personally don't care about roundabouts, at least not about those we got around. Tweaker's big roundabout at C I T Y L I F E SO by CLC is the best one ever, yet still not even close to the real roundabout you can partially drive through in that city (huge turn going under the highway). Roads on Woyta's layout are compact, but they are much more real in means of real driving lane widths, than other AutoX layouts. I like it.
Other than that, what Tweaker said - layout could be improved and smoothed here and there, but crossroads are very well designed and there are great ideas on the layout!

Quote from Live For Kill :an expirement's result: i can get through the wall without damage

It wasn't the "wall", it's barrier - collision detection may overlook such contact, especially since you were running over 200 km/h, and eventhough you got some damage there (I saw the replay), it apparently didn't come up to expectations. I don't think it is such a problem, though. When you "pass through" those Blackwood chicane barriers like that, you always loose control and can't be faster than drivers going the right way.

Maybe the damage system could be more precise (could my computer handle all those computations btw?), but it's good enough for racing, in my oppinion, already now.

Sigh this is so repeating topic.

Quote from Flotch :I always look the speedo too, irl you have many feelings that you will never have in a computer game...so you have to compensate
but if you do not search to be really quick, it is not that important, sure.

:iagree:
I'm using digital speedo to exactly see my speed in particular turns, and using this number to compare it to WR hotlaps (by Flotch, for example ) or to my best try. It means something similiar as lap time or splits to me.

But this doesn't attenuates the justness of what Zerocool said about real cars:
