It's horn5 (as stated in server rules to be used by cops - only) and I'm sure everybody will download it, if it will get advertised on the server. Another issue might be the tricky way to this topic, but every diehard fan of Citylife has it already in their subsribed threads!
to spsamsp: I will add an mp3 preview for you to the post above
Thanks, and I know his oppinion regarding layout - he liked changes at the top-right sector (green dividers to make new oneway streets) and didn't like the reversed bridge between two highways (I don't like it either lol).
Nevertheless, some other new layout is online now, and it's a fresh change, kinda chaos for a 1st sight, and few streets over parking lots, but i like the higher number of streets and overal smooth shape.
Regarding rules, I'm not sure what Max thinks about no-pit rule, would love to hear his oppinion too.
I have no fast line to run the server myself, it's up on Max or perhaps anyone else who could and want to run it. So just ideas to show to people, if they like them, they can push them online.
edit: I've attached the layout file for you to taste. (S2 licenced only)

I know what you're saying and I agree, but please take into account some demo racers' posts too - that is exactly the behavior which should get your critics as well. They still don't wanna understand that they can play thanks to developers and paying players. THANKS to them. Words like "haha I'm never gonna buy it, i'm not that stupid" are sad. Quite more than these resentful posts, right?
1st of all I love this brilliant idea, because (and now please don't throw rocks at my head) I was quite amazed by the gameplay of NFSMW, just hated those stupid "physics". Always dreamt about being able to cruise that beautiful city with some LFS car, with LFS outstanding physics. I also missed living people in the NFSMW city (and pissed on stupid superfast cops there). Now you brought this nice extension to the LFS gameplay, once we are seriously tired from the heat of GTR races and looking for some relax.
This even made me go out in the streets of Citylife with those drifter ricer skins on my XRT pretending I'm a bad guy sitting pretty high on the Blacklist!
The suggestions I'm writing here mostly follow the idea of getting the police pursuits from NFSMW to the Citylife, as well as even a bit more reality as we got now.
there are more cops than typically now - at least 4 or 5 of them
these cops are patrolling around the city, not necessary all of them, looking for rules violation
minor rules violation (speeding, no turn lights) they solve themself alone - POLICE! Stop the car! -> warning
When suspect refuses to respect cops and run away, they still following alone
If they can't stop the suspect, they call assistance using "police comms", telling their position and heading -> 2-3 cops in pursuit
If they still can't stop the suspect, and if the suspect crashes other cars in pursuit etc., they call "helicopter" = spectating dispatch (a must admin) who organizes a large police action with road blocks
during the pursuit the punishments are raising from the warning only, up to the several minutes in spec. (10 at total max?)
Shift+S (teleport to pits) is denied by the LFS Lapper, pressing shift+s resulting to spec = instant *busted*
If car crashes => damage, and needs to pit (while pitting is denied), the player must spec and rejoin - this should encourage players to drive carefully, like they would in real life
I lost the track because my wife just called me on the phone
oh yes and the dispatch/admin, could modify available cars, to be able to give FXR to the cops, while other cars can be only non-racing cars (up to the LX6)
of course the dispatch/sheriff does not have to be the speccer all the time, when things go smooth, he can patroll or do whatever other cops do, but he has to have admin rights, to force rules on the server (and make it an enjoyable place for those who wish to follow).
As you can see, I'm suggesting pretty organized and somehow trained cops - not anyone can become cops just when they wanna have the power (and abuse it) - they have to know and follow few simple rules, and admins have to control them - very similar as moderators in any other online game (cops here) and smods or sysops (admin/dispatch/sheriff here).
To offer more nice streets to cruise around (and more escape paths for bad guys) I've also edited Maxe's Citylife layout a bit. The screenshots are here also for those who wanna see the Citylife layout basically as it is now. For your convenience i have filled out areas where you can't normally drive with a blue tint.
Thanks guys, but can the camera go higher than 40m? Some hex editing maybe? Just if you know, if there is no such finished working solution, forget it as another idea of this kind ---> illepall
edit: I've tried max height 40m and max width of FOV and the engine is already having difficulties with a depth buffer (chalk on layouts tend to dissappear), so maybe anything higher than 40m is not such a bright idea.
Thanks for your tips though!
I have read and searched thru the forum back and forth, but couldn't find an answer for my noobish quesiton:
How can I put the camera for a birdeye view so high, that I can make a single screenshot of the whole Autocross layout? I remember there was some kinda hack for that. Or some other solution for Autocross (or other map) birdeye views? Even some crappy ortho top view would be better than nothing.
I totally agree! I'm S2 licenced for example, yet still sometimes go visit demo servers for some XFG classics. What I really hate on demo servers is the fact I have to change my cool team skin for some default colors. This funny detail is very often the main reason I quit the demo server and go (desperately) searching for some XFG race on S2 servers.
Also an insim apps showing detailed statistics and presenting them in such a cool way like "Great 1st split by RAYfighter!" are something which should be denied for demo servers.
Summ it up: any features which help making demo servers a permanent fun and the place where you can built up your racer carreer should be removed.
And not only blocking what you want, but have a complete look at other multiplayer games and where they bring their chat features. Let me just name the most important to me (i would love to see in LFS too):
public chat (we have now)
chat channels / team chat (with its name, up on you and your team who will know it and joins)
private message (to guy you click, just like we have now, but nobody else can see it)
clickable URLs and server names
Plus the realtime alert about your buddies - just like we have at LFSWorld. Your friend comes online -> private message from the server saying where is he connected right now - you can click the server name and follow your friend there.
If team chat channels could spawn across all the online servers, including private ones, the realtime buddy_is_online alert might be left out.
I personally believe that these features are the must for the online game - it's alot about chat and communications. That way the community can "feel itself", and you might never get left alone at some lonely server, while the real racing action is happening right in the next room...
I have never even thought about anything else than the cockpit view for this racing simulator. And I always liked the way we got realistic mirrors working, eventhough I only can see the left-side mirror of course. The FOV is fine to me when it is set to cover the left-side mirror, perspective is still pretty natural.
I agree with blur on parts seen through windows (and by reflections) but I cannot be that sure if the scenery in that spherical mirror would have so noticable blur as you expect Don.
/hunt for real photo evidence pics started
nah just kidding, anyways: since we can sucessfully expect the mirror being spherical, it will not only optically "squeeze" the landscape seen thru it, but obviously also any other effects from the camera lens - whether it be the DOF, or, for example, Lens Flares or highlights from the sun reflections.
Or in other words, mirror optics will effectively compensate the lens error, making the blurred parts more in focus again.
well... really widely appreciated error as I can see
I would love to see especially Buddies list / online alert available ingame. You could pick buddies you wanna be alerted about their online presence and the server they are on right now using the private text message in chat, right in the moment they join any server. (so you also know they switched to another and which one)
For an additional info about players, I like the number of kicks/bans. But imagine it being the only info attached to player's nick (at bottom right list for example) - would it look weird? It should be just another number along with stats like we can see at LFSW.
I'm not sure what does this take bandwidth-wise, devs sure had their good reasons to move it outta the game to the supporting website...
My oppinion is just opposite. I love the clean and stylish design of LFS interface. Most if not all of the professional graphics applications use something of this simplistic style - and you will probably agree that these big companies should know the best how to satisfy us touchy artists.
Actually, if you would wanna make the game look arcadish, you should add as many childish bevels, shadows, metallic/glass reflections (hello apple) and crazy fonts as possible to fit into any interface screen. Only then kids will go WOW.
Imagine all these virtual friends storming your fav pub - if everyone would send you just a single beer, your birthday celebration would finish somewhere in the next year.
Will you (did you) celebrate with Eric and Victor?
Actually me too. That's why I visited this "3d things" thread. Up to the rather simple scene with something like an i-Pod I liked it alot.
XCNuse your skyline looks cool so far. I bet you could teach me many things about freeform surfaces modelling! As you said you might have holes in materials and lighting - I could help, especially with finalRender.
if you want, lol. Keep it up, lol.
Workers are making wheels, we render. You don't need to do that simple yet long manual work yourself today, go at turbosquid and buy the wheel you want. Cheap, believe me.
I mean, I do have 3D renderings in my portfolio which I don't need to be ashame to show, but since they are not LFS related... why the hell would I do it? Sorry.
For example, 1 pic I have finished today:
(the building at the center is virtual, the rest is a photo)

Reason : added an example 3D rendering
Maybe later, I am having shitload of work plus leaving to Canes for 2 weeks. But this is the skin of my team and it's finished now, so you will sure see it again.
