how about i look after your system while your looking hehehe. The injection head on my car is equivalent and in some ways BETTER then a stage 1 head! think fuel injection gives me a 25bhp boost or more with EDIS and megasquirt.
want to swap top heads/fuel systems? would probably stick to EEC-IV at first then change to what ive seen another guy have. Pinto EFi with megasquirt and an EDIS system (no distributor ) also fitted a turbo and bored to 2.1, goes pretty fast! but its set up for economy so only about 160bhp.......
EDIT: seems i was wrong, no EFi or turbo, just bored out with the EDIS and megasquirt and a lightened flywheel and a stage 1 head i think. still gets 140bhp on a standard carb!
im not too clued up on sierra so forgive me more a capri man myself. fancy letting me have the top half of your engine? Looking at turning it into a 2.0i instead of carbs
yeah, strange that. they go back to an older model of engine to get more power and im sure there was a 2.0 CVH model. zetecs werent even designed back then me loves pintos.
goign back a bit but...thats a bad clarification! The only diffrence between the cosworth and the standard escort was 8 more valves and a turbo, engine size was the same! Just bolted a twin cam 16v on top instead of the standard 8 ohv head. then added the turbo.
dont change the button control rate, makes catching slides awful. keep steering lock down to about 13 degrees. use the LSD and keep power lock to 50% ish. that way you can almost floor it out of corners and not have to worry.
its all £2000 plus where i am (just down the road from you mcgas) though i found a classic car policy willing to take me on for £1600 FC (capri 2.0 laser 1986) so thats £800 for the car and double that to insure it! youve got a cheap quote mate
I would come and say hi, but i shall not be joining again. silly boys getting rid of your good xrr driver hehehe. But ill be a nice boy and keeps an eye outs for you
or a slightly more descriptive answer. the rear end of the silencer box fell off, and that photo was taken before the end of the silencer (with the small exahust diameter attached) was welded back on. i think
small capri update:
Got the lights and rev counter working took a few hours (10 to be exact :schwitz also changed the spark plugs and HT leads.
Got all the bits i need to pass the MOT too, the dining room at home is looking more and more like a car parts shop though ive put a lot in/on the capri so its only an exhaust system, wiper blades, and a few other bits and bobs at the moment.
just had a phonecall from the DSA. aparently my examiner for thursday is ill so my test has been cancelled :banghead::banghead: which means i need to pay for another 10 hour block of lessons, which means i gotta wait another month to get my car on the road!!!! im not very happy!
LOL! yep it says laser, dont think they would get many people buying it if it was the new, amazing, fantastic CAPRI LOSER!
@ beefyman: yep, cant wait to drive it about. its a 65 mile drive from where the car is kept to the garage im getting it MOT'd at. So a nice long jurney without MOT or tax to clear out the gremlins lots of roundabouts on the way too, better check the differential works ok
wish i could get it done faster. problem is the capri is 65miles away and i have no transport and nobody to take me. And at the moment i need a 2nd person who knows ltos of technical stuff to help. so its a bit tricky to get it all sorted. ill get there soon though i hope. only the long winded bits left to do
wondered how long itd take you to reply, less then 5mins it seems haha. and that tis the girlfriend she likes cars n always comes down to help out when im working on it. she bought half the car for me too, shes loverrrly got my driving test on thursday, so could be on the road next month
Little update on the capri, finally got the plates on it and changed the oil new 7spoke 2.8 wheels too. the earthing needs sorting out, its doin all sorts of things!
rev counter sits at 250rpm with two red warning lights abotu half brightness, press the brake pedal and one light goes out, one goes full brightness and the rev counter reads 0rpm so i gotta takes the car apart AGAIN!! heres a few updated pics.
i see tristan missed the important bit. the reason you cant change down with the throttle down is you are probably driving one of the cars with the sequential and ignition cut?? so for it to "allow" a change down you need to be off the accelerator, hope that helps.
with the tyres, they may get hot, but as they wear down again they cool off. so as long as you can get the car handling ok on hot tyres you can last a whole tank
i know how you feel about thinking you wont be able to do it. but everything apart from the clutches and the leaks/seals can be done with pretty much no knowledge. i thought brakes would be complicated, but like everything on a car its just bolts and screws. sometimes its quite worrying to look at whats holding together what you once thought was a very strong or indestructable part
