Theres no button on my wheel to change it from digital to analogue so its always in analouge. I admit the game is more fun with the wheel (but i have to re-learn my driving stlye ) but its just the rree play it has when straightening up thats the problem.
I've seen a nice wheel for £30 down the shops, not to sure on what it is, but its nice and has a nice feel to it. The man even allowed me to put lfs on a laptop he has and try it out and its spot on. No DFP's tho
Yeh it's weird tbh. It's a nice wheel, worked fine on the xbox and the calibration was superb. Only think i dont like too much about it is the pedals seem to light but i've gotten used to it.
Thanks for all the help tho dude even though it seems to be a lost cause. Might pop down to me local computer shop tommorow and inquire about a DFP or at least something decent.
I got my dad to do that. He's an electonic engineer and has been for longer than i've been alive (18 years ) and then taped up each wire seperatly and then sealed it all with some more tape.
I don't see how the wiring could be the cause of this. It steers but not to its full lock. Then again i aint an electronics expert.
Had a spare USB extension cable lying around and a spare end bit (thats removable) from an old xbox controler that's fooked. This is the tutorial i used.
Just a wee note. I pluged in my joypad along with the xbox wheel.
Ran DXTweak and it showed the joypad fine and loaded instantly (1st attachment) i then click next, it shows in the name bit its an xbox controler but crashes instantly. (2nd attachment)
Ok, i've tried everything on that site and nothing works.
When i've calibrated the wheel (this is for steering now, nothing else) in XBCD, windows and LFS, according to them all calibrations is:
Blue being centre. Green being the range LFS will steer (IE full lock) Red is how far my wheel ACTUALY goes.

it's really pissing me off because im at full lock taking a corner, when i slightly start to go straight, the game doesn't start to straighten up untill it gets into the green bit (about 3 inches)
My mate done the same as me to get his xbox wheel working (usb conveted etc) and his is fine, well not fine, perfect.
Their are fun server online that allow people to do other things other than racing (cops & robbers, drifting, drag etc) which could be classed as pissing about but racing laps on end can get boring at times and something fresh is what is needed to make the racing lively again.
Right. Two weeks friday i finish college for the summer (great 3 months off :P) and i want to make a LFS vid :P a decent one i could possibly put in a portfolio for later in life.
Now i know what im doing as far as recording and stuff. I got Fraps, Premiere Pro 2.0 (but i still prefer 6.5) and an audio recorder for some bits i'm doing. But i've noticed in some vids that people are zooming in and out in a custom camera angle. I know how to do them, that aint the problem. Its the zooming as some things i want to do will look better with some zooming envolved.
It is just moving closer to the car with the arrows or is their an actual zoom in and out keys? Knowing my luck its something soooo simple and i'll get a ton of n00b comments thrown at me.
Also, is their some sort of "tutorial" that shows you all the basic controls that can be used when making a vid in LFS? Or is it a case of trial and error?
I've dug out my steering wheel (coated in dust i might add ) got the XBCD drivers and pluged it to me PC.
Stearing is fine (although the range aint to good) all the buttons and paddles are fine, rumble works fine etc etc but the brake and throttle pedals are being seen as a button and have a 0% or 100% input. The same goes for the L and R triggers on the controler. On the Xbox their both fine (as everyone with an xbox knows) but not on PC.
Is their another driver i can use? Or one specific for wheels?
I really wana get this up and going incase i dont get the DFP im going for.
I used to play GTR before i played LFS. And TOCA before GTR. I played them both like a religion and it took me some time to get used to LFS. It took me a good few weeks to get used to GTR and TOCA (seperatly). If i was to go back on either of them now i would most probbly suck and wouldn't reach the second corner.
I loved TOCA to bits. Damage engine, suspension, body work etc. I think it was my first sim game like it. Then GTR, which was essentially the same but more intricate. I was a huge Gran Turismo nut (not fanboy) 4 years ago when i had a PS2, but, since the PS2 got nicked, i got stuck into PC sims. I always never classed GT1, 2, 3 and 4 as sims because of the lack of damage you can inflict on the car. Wow, the steering got bent and the tires got worn but bursting tires, denting fenders and in general, completly destroying various parts of a car instantly spelt out realism.
I doubt i could ever go back to any other sim because of LFS It just pours out fun, with the harsh reality that a car can't do 200 into a 180* bend. I dont have S2 yet so i can't really comment on that part of LFS but the demo cars and track are all i need out of it.
All of it boils down to what you said an agree with it completly. What most games are churning out atm just is not what i want in the game. I want it to be as real as walking to a car, sitting down, sticking on a seat belt and doing what the car is really capable of. I want the fender to dent in and screw up the engine when i hit a wall. I wan't my car to flip if i hit a sharp incline on one side. (unlike GT which just jumps)
Also its down to the hardware i think. I use a joypad and enjoy racing with it. But my mates think otherwise because they use keyboard for most games and want to do the same on this. I'm hopefully getting a DFP sometime real soon which will amp up the realism. Using a keyboard aint realistic! never has been. Neither has a joypad but is closer than a keybooard due to analouge steering, throttle and braking. All of which, depending on what is used, will make the game feal shite or excellent.
I tried my hand at drifting when i was a bit of a noob at lfs, purly because everyone was doing it. I even made a video *embarisment* but im just shite in comparison to some so i've given it up. Although i never joined a server and asked for another track (well, technicly i cant because theres only blackwood in the demo but blackwood rev seems to be what most drift servers in the demo run)
If my car decides to go sideways on a corner i can get it back going straight rather fast and smoothly, hardly spin anymore which imo was probably down to the small drifting knowledge i have.
