^ "F*ck everyone, but f*ck you the most.
With a big rusty pole or a splintery post
Yeah, f*ck you the most.
F*ck you!"

F*ckin' saved. One of my favorite Reel Big Fish songs.
Edit: That would be hilarious if you could dedicate that song to someone over the radio.

A440 (Scatter) voted to ban sldways. (1/16)

Just shut up and put up, it's so simple.
Your disrespect is so brazen I will bet you'd probably say the same worthless thing if you had to attend a funeral.

Quote from thisnameistaken :It happens because it sells records. The same reason that duff vocal notes are nudged into pitch, hiss from the signal chain is chopped out of guitar parts, silence is inserted in between staccato bass notes, and so on.

This is exactly what the loudness is for. I actually took my walkman with me today with a few Red Hot Chili Peppers songs from the Californication album. I had a few of the unmastered songs and a few of the mastered songs. Obviously, the unmastered songs kept pretty much everything: the hiss, pops, clicks, echoes but it had great dynamic range at a lower volume. The mastered song was a muddy mess but it was quite loud and those audio "artifacts" were gone.

So I gave a few of my friends a listen. A lot of the people chose the mastered one because it sounded "clean" and had more guitar and voice. They also felt that the song had more volume in the parts where they cared. They didn't like the unmastered version because they felt that it was unnatural for the bass and drums to come out strong and clear. A few who chose it said they liked that muddy sound because it gives a certain mood. The unmastered one was chosen by only a few people. They noticed that the unmastered version was more dynamic and though they didn't like all of the audio "artifacts" they felt it was much more enjoyable than the mastered version, which some of my friends hated because they thought it sounded like it came out of a crappy radio.

So what "thisnameistaken" is saying is very true, at least with my sample. By the way, the ones who liked the unmastered version were more devoted musicians and one audiophile of my school.

Ok. I am really not happy with this anymore.
Almost every modern song I have is affected by this loudness. I removed all EQ settings and Bass Boosters and what did I get?

-Grounds for Divorce (Elbow) is completely washed out. All I hear is that guys voice, the heavy guitars, and the bass and drums get completely overwhelmed while treble clips. This song is also ridiculously loud.

-System of A Down: A bunch of their songs are flat. I love this band and this happens.

-Muse: Getting better but their songs clip at the treble heavily. Blackout by Muse is ridiculously loud. To the point that the snare hit in the near end of the song scares me.

-Metallica: I got rid of them.

-Scars On Broadway: Flat. Like an Asian girl (sorry for stereotype).

And the list goes on. What I'm left with is a handful of electronic songs, classical songs, piano songs, and older rock/ska songs. It's ridiculous because all this time I was wondering why my quieter songs actually sound better than my loud ones in fidelity and then I found out that most of my songs are loud.

But seriously, if you take off all EQs, Boosters, Etc, tune your speakers to a quieter song with good sound quality and try playing the loud songs at that same level of volume you hear with quiet songs, you'll notice how washed out they sound compared to quiet songs.

I may be PMS-ing about what some people may think is a silly/non-issue but I've basically been taught to listen to these minute details to create that subtility in piano music and knowing that these details were purposely taken away from good songs feels wrong.

I showed this to my brother and he got pretty pissed because the drums got washed out in a lot of his favorite songs (and he's a drummer). He's reconsidering his music choices.

I am reconsidering as well too. A lot of the rock songs I have are "overloud" and I actually end up turning the volume up more (or tweaking the EQ) to hear more of the punchiness, more of the treble, more of the dynamics but it's really no good because at that point, my music is unbearably loud.

It's like these studios don't think we have volume controls or something.

I won't really describe it because it's easily demonstrated through examples:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Gmex_4hreQ&fmt=18

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DRyIACDCc1I&fmt=18

And there's a nice explanation ACCAkut found on youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qvheO...eature=related

A few questions to consider:
  • What is your take on this? Don't care? Loathe it to death?
  • Do you notice the difference in sound "quality"?
  • Do you know songs that actually don't have this "loudness"?
  • Does it change the way you buy/listen to songs?
Discuss.

In my opinion, no one is a ricer unless they try to make their car seem to do one thing when it actually can't. Like many other definitions for things, the boundary between tuner, ricer, racer and other things can be confused.

I'd have to say, after playing it on the PC with a wheel, this game does fairly well. It's still feels "detatched" as in the car doesn't give clear or responsive feedback and the controls are still late but it isn't too bad of an attempt and it seems like an easy fix.

However, they really need to fix the crashing bugs and graphics issues in the PC version. That's what really prevented me from buying a copy because every few plays of the demo, a weird graphics glitch happens (Ex.: Flag Girl's hair turns rainbow colored) and the game crashes almost immediately after.

^In your opinion.
In mine, they should have synced it a little better but I quite like it.

Not going to flame you really. But usually isn't it the company that purchases licenses to tracks, cars, labels, etc. in their game?

I think for the developers of LFS, it's the other way around. Digging through Scawen's (or Victor's) posts from when the Sciroccio was announced, they were being paid to put that content into the game (though I'm not to sure about the V1 contract).

But some people may like 'em flat.
It's a start though and I'm glad they took that chance instead of refuse it.

Take your time guys, I don't mind waiting since I know what big updates are up ahead.
I really hope that new car is a FR roadster of some sort such as the Mazda MX5 (Miata) or the Honda S2000.

This news deserves avatar themes, who's with me?

Is anyone getting this issue where before the race starts, the car girl's hair is rainbow colored or something, and then when the race starts, the game crashes?

I'm really starting to hate the PC version of this game.

Just tried the demo:
I'm impressed at how well they do the immersion, though it is annoying. Do you actually experience color blindness when you crash a car?

Physics are OK. They don't feel arcadey and are somewhat familiar to me in terms of realism (only if I ignore the massive input lag).

What is really funny though is what happens if I ram a car from the back. The car's rear wheels go up off the ground and the car then sits on the bonnet (or hood) and the car spins itself out/flips out of the race.

Lastly, that input lag needs to go. I quit the game after 3 minutes of trying to get a car to go straight.

Though Front-Wheel drive can work and work well, it does fall short, especially in competition drifting such as D1GP.

One small factor is smoke. No smoke is ok but lots of smoke can raise points.

One big factor is large, sweeping corners. I have yet to see any front wheel drive car pull through the banking turn of Irwindale Speedway or the long sweeper after the right turn in Fuji Speedway.

Not saying it's impossible, but even with a professional FF drifter, you can't really compete against RWD drifters of the same or slightly lower caliber and look as good as a RWD car, especially in long corners. Remember, professional drifting mostly a test of how you do it, not if you do it. They don't care what car you use (except 4wd) as long as it looks better than the others.

I don't get adrenaline from this game.
Maybe from something like FEAR if I was playing it at night and some mutilated nurse body got posessed and started having a seizure in front of the window.
Like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v ... g99mA&feature=related
But at night with headphones.

BUT. I can't help but laugh really hard when I crash the car and hear the driver go, "UUUUUUUHHHHHH."

Oh. Well there is sim in terms of physics (e.g.: LFS, GT Legends, and partly Forza 2, Forza 3, GT5, etc.)

And there's sim in terms of simulating other things. In this case, Shift simulates a sense of adrenaline pumped, white knuckled racing.

It's really how you look at it. There isn't a clear cut line that classifies sims from non-sims. All I can say is that if you feel that it can accurately replicate something in real life, it's a sim in that respect.

So for example, Need for Speed Underground 2 is a ricing sim in it's respect.
And Need for Speed Shift is an immersion and orgasm sim.

Sorry for the confusion. I should've said that my scale is for comparing physics to real life.

So wait.... How is it on this scale in terms of physics:

Arcade-A---------------------------Half----------------------X-------O-Sim

Where A is NFS:Nitro
X is Forza Motorsport 3/GT5
O is Live For Speed

Quote from ultrataco :I'm amazed at the polar opposite views this is getting. Seems to be a "love it or hate it" type of game, I guess.

There isn't a lot of compromise going on from what I see so far.

People hate it because it's too difficult/lost it's street racing focus/can't "yo dawg I heard you like wings so we put wings on yo wings so you can rice while you race"

OR

People hate it because it doesn't live up to the promises of a true racing sim. They nitpick about half-assed physics and wallriding Bugatti Veyrons and are disgusted by the fact that NFS:S is at least "trying" to replicate the feeling of speed and orgasms after hitting a wall.

So it doesn't quite live up to the expectations of the audience on the the more extreme ends of the sim-arcade spectrum. As for some people, they feel that this compromise works. NFS:S is more of a pseudo-sim. It leans more towards the realistic side of racing but will not fully recreate it.

\/ Not really. The best post will be the one containing a link to the PC demo of NFS:S
