These are not on LFS world, you'll have to upload them yourselves if you want to use them. Simple and not exactly brilliant, but I suppose that's beter than nothing...

The LX4, LX6 RB4 and UFR models are apparently due for revision between now and S2 final, therefore the 2048 wireframe templates that the vast majority of high quality skins are made from are not available for those cars.

That being the case I doubt you will see many of the better known skinners regularly producing work for those cars anytime soon. The default LX4/6 skins don't carry very much detail at all, in fact they don't even mark the position of the bonnet vents, which just makes the sort of high detail precise skinning that you regularly see for the GTR cars much more difficult.

Quote from Gimpster :Alright why is no one making skins for the LXs, these are a becoming a fun class, especialy the LX4. I pose a challange to the great skinners in our comunity.

Build us a complete LX4/6 race grid worthy of your skills.

I'll make you one with a coupla colour variations, but I go back to uni next week and I'm not gonna have much time for anything else after that....talk to me about what you'd like....

34....it's just that I'm at uni with a load of kids who are about 20 odd and always ripping me about my age, so I've kinda had to get used to joking about it....:weeping:

I had my first BMX sometime around 1981, when I was 10, which you are no doubt going to tell me was long before you were born.....

Carlsberg and Stella Artois themed skins for the FZR.

Beer cars.jpg is your preview,[dialup users beware this isn't a small picture] and the two beneath are the skins, both of which are public. Feel free to change the numbers on the cars, but please don't edit them any further.

Some of the smaller decals didn't really survive the transistion to the 400kb 1024 versions so I'll post the 2048's if anyone really wants them.

[edit] What I forgot to say is that I haven't uploaded these and won't be doing so, stick em on LFS world yourself if you'd like to use them [/edit]

Oh and thanks Vendatta

Places like Ikea sell foam tubing, just like the sorta stuff that used to be wrapped around BMX handlebars when I was a kid sometime back in the 19th century. Cut down the length of it vertically, open it up flat, place the cables inside and its natural tension will make it roll back into a tub shape again, no tape, ties, string or garden wire necessary.

We used to use it to keep the cables out of sight in the computer shop I worked in for a while, and trust me you ain't seen cabling problems until you've got 10 full pc systems with squillions of peripherals all set up on one gondola. Of all the methods we tried it was the neatest and did the least damage to the cables.

Hint for next time.

If you press shift and f at the same time all the HUD info disappears and doesn't "pollute" your movie when you're capping it.

At least you got a reasonably smooth capture, I take it you have quite a quick machine?

If you click on the button that says "single player replays" it should change to read "multiplayer replays" and show you the contents of the mpr folder instead.

Your portfolio is full of skins, phtoshopped screenshots, renders and film shorts made from edited replays, instead of all the stuff that your uni lecturers think you should be doing.

You get offered the chance to show your work on a full sized cinema screen think "yeah it's gotta be about LFS 'cos that would just be cool, and everyone will be able to relate to it.

If anyone would like to PM me a link to an mpr file I'd be grateful, since being a dumb noob I saved mine at the end of the first parking session thinking the "race" was going to restart and I didn't have autosave on....Obviously it didn't record the rest, and I left early to go out for a mate's birthday anyway...

Cheers.

There's a correlation between the complexity of the image and the size of the resulting .jpg....more decals, colours, details etc bigger file. Some of mine have been over 400kb when saved at max quality some haven't, depends how much effort you've made with the skin

It's a piece of my work..."a kinda vector" thing I did from a photo that I found somewhere. Since it's done with photoshop [bitmap] not illustrator [vector] strictly speaking it ought to be called a "digital painting"

I'll offer the perspective of one of those who is new to the game.

I'll start with the positives, I've had lots of "sorry mate" when somebody has knocked me off, lots of "thank you" when I've moved over for a blue flag, and nobody's ever sworn at me, or tried to ban/disconnect me just because I'm 5 seconds+ down on the leaders, so generally speaking my online experience has been very enjoyable and less "1337-ist" than some of the other games I've played.

This game suffers somewhat from not having had a commercial release, there aren't many commercially run servers, almost all the public servers out there belong to team/clan and in the context of other games that would mean that the word "public" would have to be taken with a pinch of salt, since they'd usually be full of clanners and server regulars...not the best place to cut your teeth in the online mode of the game you're playing. So it's nice to be able to find so many places to play where people aren't going to have a "wtf are you doing here" type attitude

Unfortunately there has to be some negative to go with that. I've also had quick drivers tagging the rear of my car and spinning me out because they've failed to account for the fact that I'm slower in the corners, I've had many many people come across from the side, and take my nose off because they're not using their side view buttons, and plenty of times I've seen "blue flag clear the line!!!" and realised that me being last/close to it, I need to be aware of what's going on. More often than not it's been half a lap before I've seen anything coming up behind me, by which time I've made a couple of mistakes and am more likely to make more, since I'm paying more attention to the mirror and the map than I am to the road.

Bottom line is renting servers costs money, and I respect anyone who pays for one and then makes it public without asking for contributions, and I'll always obey the house rules and try not to upset anyone. I appreciate it's frustrating for someone who can consistently be within a second of the WR time to be on a server full of people who are 10 seconds slower than that, but if I may offer an opinion, it would be that you go where the game is, and therefore need to find the level in the game you're playing, and as long as those who don't have a decent level of skill are prepared to account for those who do, then the same respect really ought to go the other way. I'm reminded of an old FarCry clanmate of mine who used to have "respect the n00b for one day he will pwn you" as his forum sig, silly statement I know, but I guess it means everyone has to start somewhere, and if those new to the game get put off playing it then sooner or later it will run out of steam and its community will disintegrate just like so many other gaming communities before it.

Quote from tristancliffe :Pinched it straight off the ftp

Great movie - I really liked it. Okay, so it's not my favourite music style, but it really suited the visuals. Really nice work!!!!

The only bit that didn't 'fit' was that UF1 crash. Just seems out of sorts with everything else...

Yeah that crash is rather slow compared to the rest of the action. I'm still new to the game, and haven't seen many things like that happen out on track, so when somebody sent me that replay I thought "hey that's unusual and cool I should stick it in my film" Maybe I should have speeded the footage up or made it strobe like a mofo or something....

Quote from deggis :LOL I should have posted a link.

OK movie. But a bit too much everything from here and there if you know what I mean.

Yeah I do, I suppose this was supposed to be a stylised overview of some of what the game is about, perhaps more for people who've never seen it before. You're right in that it's just a load of clips smashed together without a cohesive storyline, this one is more about me playing with the visuals to add contunuity than it is about the clips necessarily making sense in the context of each other.
Reason being I have to provide work for an end of year degree show, and it has to be as varied as possible, so I made that as part of the fifteen minute slot I have to fill since I think it might look quite cool played on the full sized cinema screen at the university arthouse cinema that we'll be using.

Thanks for the comments...

Right then now that I have realised that LFS Movies pit is not something called "movie spit", illepall which for some reason is how I read what Deggis typed, i've uploaded it to the FTP over there... I presume that someone else has to add the link to the page of movie downloads since I can't for the life of me see a button to click and do it myself.

It gave me a very similar error to that once immediately after I uploaded it, however I have just checked it all the way through to actually beginning the download and it worked fine for me [I use I.E]. I think their servers might well be a bit dodgy....how would I go about uploading it to "Moviespit"...have to confess I've never heard of that one.

21.6Mb DivX Download here...

It's a kinda "ooh look this game is cool and has cars in it" clip, there's no particular story to the thing. Capped with FRAPS, edited with Premiere and messed with by After Effects. I'm a little disappointed with the quality in places, but I can't post the 720x576 DV.avi 'cos it's just over 800mb...

I've ripped a few sounds from my extensive collection of car pron, and before you all line up with your slap smilies I'd like to point out that I know I haven't been ever so consistent or accurate in their application, but they're not present for much of the clip....

Comments and opinions are always welcome.

Your SATA disks on striped RAID are what's making the big difference, I've capped stuff at 1024x768 with 2xAA and it's only the fact that the FRAPS file gets over 1gb so quickly that makes the machine unhappy....

For the record, the machine I'm using is a AMD 3400 64bit with 1024RAM and 1 200gb SATA disk....so since you have a better hdd config than me, you shouldn't have many problems running the graphics settings at pretty much whatever you want.

When it comes to editing, if you're using Premiere, then I find a little "fast blur" works wonders when it comes to smoothing the footage out a bit, although After Effects has a habit of undoing all the good work, since its render qaulity isn't up to that of Premiere.

Nice clip btw...next please...
