Ahhh I see.

Still though COD4 has been in the top sellers since it was added to steam and its $70/£40 lol.

LFS was what? £24, that would be around $45 on Steam which would make it the second most expensive one, even if it was sold at that price, the devs would be making a profit even with a cut towards steam as a publishing fee....I presume anyway.

I mean add all up the players on steam, just adding the players from CSS nevermind the rest of it will add like over a million viewers a week

TBH though I am talking about future, maybe S3 LFS

Steam?

I have always wondered about this, because I am seeing more and more games on steam that are not Valve developed or published, even some 1-man developed games/mods (Audiosurf, garrys mod)

Is Steam now a free market, would LFS be able to be sold on steam...if the LFS team felt it was a move forward?

This has confused me tbh, theres so many games I can think of that would benefit from being on there, I buy many games from it, its a great way to keep track of friends and its generally easier.

I'm always tempted to buy stuff from steam, I open to play CSS or TF2 or COD4, always look at the shop first....:P

The current available racing games on there dont compare to the in-depth physics of LFS.

What do you all think?

Quote from jibber :Replace PS3 with Xbox360 and you might be satisfied (there's no GT5 on the xbox of course, but the online system is really the best there is for a console atm).

Well I would want a really decent racing game to go with, I've played forza and PGR online at my uncles. They were fun granted but had to use a controller.

Unless I am mistaken my G25 isnt usable on the XB360?

See I still do enjoy GT5:P, its online where the game fails really, since I would get PS3 only for online games then, yea, I might be stubborn in that part but a GT5 that fails online is a GT5 not worth getting.

But I read the interview and the car damage might actually change something, I havent given up all hope.

I've been using the TVR Tamara with the G25 on fully manual/shifter/clutch/professional with no aids on (ASM/TC etc). Its a fun drive but once you hit sort of going into a drift the car just doesnt wanna be controlled, its a challenge I guess :P

Quote from Jakg :That actually works irl and is missing from LFS - it's something that would make Bump-Drafting much better.

Seems like it's overdone in GT5, though

Apart from bump driving requires contact :P This effect in GT5 for some reason doesnt require contact...

Quote from jibber :Actually they did improve the AI. They are still terrible, sure. But i've actually been in situations where the AI did avoid crashing into me (like going into a corner side by side, where in previous GT titles, the AI would simply stay to their racing line and crash into you). Aswell when they make a mistake and happen to get off the track, they look out for you and wait with getting back on track until you are out of their way. But yeah, overall they are still pretty dumb.

About the bad physics... did you go into the options aswell and set the wheel options to simulation too? Not only the driving options you see everytime you join a race? Because honestly, even if the physics are not as great as LFS, and not quite as good as Forza 2, they sure are not what i would call "bad". The problem in GT5P however is, as soon as settings are in some kind of arcade mode, physics are a complete joke. And it's not too hard to miss a setting if you don't look through all the options etc.

Yes everything was set to simulation, including wheel simulation etc checked all the settings when I was looking how to get the clutch working. :P

And no doubt the AI has been improved but tbh I was expecting such a long development process to field better results.

Ok so I took my G25 up to my uncles, set his nice big HDTV up with the PS3, got a nice table to set the G25 up on, all nice.

Load up prologue, jump into a Golf.....Physics on Professional, no traction control or ASM, anything that would give me driving aids I turned off. Load onto the High Speed Ring track....now this is probably me being all picky, but the graphics arent as good as the videos made them out to be, the tracks could easily in some cases be mistaken for the PS2's GT4 version, I mean compare high speed ring and you'll see what I mean. The cars do look really nice granted but they feel so out of place on such underwhelming visual tracks. I even noticed in this era of consoles and graphics that GT5:P didnt have anti-aliasing, so visable jagged edges

It actually took me a while to realise you had to push the top button on the G25's gear controls to get the clutch working at the start of every race :S

Now to add to that dissapointment, the AI feels as dumb as the last GT, and while I really enjoyed my GT I was expecting some progress, ecspecially with all the power of the Cell chip.

So lets head online, one thing I must say from getting from the menu to a full 12 man (only 12 ) is very easy, simply press start, it will join you to a race thats about to start. So I was impressed with that part.....until, now without going on too much I'll point whats wrong with this, remembering that online gaming is the future, the XBOX360 would be crap without XBOX Live etc...

- First off, people go invisible when is detects they are driving in an 'unusual manor', this generally means when they managed to spin the car or crashed into a barrier etc. Numerous times has thier car ended up inside mine, and when it returns them to be 'real' again, the car feels like its crashed and spins out...
- Rolling starts....this is what I hate about GT, rolling starts, I dont mind it on single player, but why on online....
- No real filtering. As I said before, you press start and in literally 30 seconds your in a race. This brings the bad point of there ALWAYS being idiots on the track, I get taken out left right and centre, its like racing on a pinball table...
- This one made me laugh, a few people when I was on last night managed to win the race by foot down all the time and hitting the side barriers side on, this didnt lose them much speed and generally caused thier car to be faster by not braking...
- Drafting....we all know this is a real physic, but GTs drafting seems way too strong. And I draft a lot, its so easy to catch up to someone without trying from 100 metres away. However for some reason when you get within like a metre of the car your drafting ready to take over them, it propels them forward...wtf is that about.

I have to say at this point GT5 is a big dissapointment, I never minded the physics being pretty bad, but the online experience is fustrating, crap and unexciting.

Cant thank you lot enough for recommending me Richard Burns Rally, its awesome, added a few mods to upgrade its graphics abit, had to install latest G25 drivers too (RBR was stuck on 900 degrees for some reason, new driver install fixed it). BTW Sold-Out software is producing it again for those that still want it, got mine from Amazon

Just wow, amazing physics and so much fun, first hour and a half into it and just finished all the rally school tests on perfect

So yea, thanks for the recommendation, this game is an amazing experience. Now if I can just finish a stage without doing;

1. A barrel roll
2. A 900 degree spin into a ditch
3. A 100mph crash into a tree
4. .....missing the damn bridges
5. Getting lost \o/

PS.
Anyone got a decent G25 setup for this, the feedback is rather weak, but that might just be me after getting used to the best feedback game I have ever used LFS

PPPPPSSSSS
Didnt order GT Legends, still quite unsure about it. I downloaded the latest rFactor from the website yesterday and turned the mode to professional and it wasnt too bad actually. rFactor and GT legends are both £17.99 from Play.com and RF seems quite extensive taking in community made mods. What do you lot think? Thanks again

Was thinking today while on my G25, I got it solely for LFS \o/ and I thought to myself I might as well get a couple of other racing games.

Now I am into rally, and from what I read the last Colin Mcrae game DiRT is a good rally game? For anyone who has played it would you recommend it? Found it for £10 on GAME.

And well the other racing game I aint really sure of, I tried rfactor trial from the G25 package but is it just me that felt like I was driving on plastic wheels?

Anyway thanks in advance, I looked up options BTW but theres so many

Quote from tristancliffe :No, I didn't implicate you as a moron. And I didn't say you were a text retard but that lots of people, by replacing letters with numbers speak text retard. There is a difference.

And it's hardly beautiful. A Miura is beautiful. A DB5 is beatiful. Caterhams are functional (which is a very different form of beauty).

Well I agree sort of, the Miura and DB5 are definately beautiful.

The reasons I see this new Caterham as beautiful is because it looks dark and curvaceous. It has very agressive looks even if its design took tail end on the priority list.

And, FYI, for the win is usually shortened to FTW. 4 the win isn't English. I'm sure I won't be the only person around here who can't speak "Text Retard", so try not to replace letters with numbers unless you really have to.

So because I like the look of that car, I get implicated as a moron.
And because I used "4tw" instead of FTW, I am a "Text Retard".

I see you are a quite a regular poster but cut the attitude and grammar policing, I come on here to share this news of a beautiful looking car and discuss, If I'd have known I would have been called a moron for expressing opinion and a retard for petty incorrect grammar I wouldn't have bothered.

Quote from tristancliffe :What is 4tw?

I'd imagine that the car is slightly less fun than a 'normal' Caterham that can be relatively exploited with it's low power and decent torque.

Thr 150mph limiter is almost certainly there for aerodynamic reasons, and you don't want to experience major front end lift in something as bendy as a Caterham.

At £115 it does seem like a bargain though. Put me down for 6.

4tw = for the win.

Yea the 150mph limit will have its reasons, but I always wondered how far a Caterham could fly

But yea the slower, heavier Caterhams would be more fun. This will obviously be a car that strictly relies on downforce and therefore obviously needing a good driver, but just look at it, damn sexy.
500BHP / 500KG car = 4tw

Caterhams are already the sex but this IS THE SEX.

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/n ... news/217812/caterham.html

"With a power to weight ratio of over 1,000bhp per tonne, the six-speed Caterham sprints from 0-60mph in less than three seconds and on to a top speed electronically limited to 150mph."

150mph, ghey, I am sure you could remove that somehow.

Anyway, this car is a dream car, apparently its a limited edition, only 8 will be made and at a cost of £115K its a stretch (bigggggggg) anyway.

Quote from Aquilifer :What three? I wonder if it is worth paying extra for overclocked card if you can OC it yourself. If you get it for basicly the same price and/or do not know about OCing, then maybe yes.

Indeed you are correct, but simply put, some people dont like overclocking, therefore getting a guaranteed overclocked card is a better option.

Quote :Only if you talk about the old (G80. i.e 320MB or 640MB) GTS versions. The new G92 (512MB) version is faster. It makes no sense getting the old GTS version (at least for the old price). Also getting G80 GTX or ultra is not wise imho. Only 8800s worth at the moment are the G92 ones.

Ahhh, I didnt realise the revised GTS were available.

In which case 8800GTS > 8800GT, this graphics card is my choice

Oh sorry to answer your question, RAID 1 (second one down) is safe, the first one (RAID 0) isnt.

Quote from neilmichaelcasey :hehehhe - I like to have an Install Drive & a Backup drive. I use alot of backup so i dont wanna stress main drive. Also I need to spend as much of budget now so I dont waste it on crap later. Also how sweet to have 2 matching drives, never had that before. What is all this raid stuff? can i RAID? is RAIDING safe?

RAID has 3 variations. (there are more but dont tend to be at the consumer end, these are the ones relevant to your motherboard)

1. Using 2 hard-drives in sync, giving you more bandwidth therefore speeding up loading/saving times and performance. This however means it doubles your chances of data loss. (RAID 0)

2. Mirrored HDDs, each HDD writes the same things. Effectively this will give you only 320GB of total data, the advantages are minimal loss of data. Its basically a backup HDD. (RAID 1)

3. This needs 4 HDDs, and is a mix of variations 1 and 2 (RAID 0+1)

Quote from neilmichaelcasey :Thanks again Spaced! I have updated my list to reflect your suggestions.

Ill also go and price up the same list with Micro Direct. As you mentioned, Aria seems to be lacking stock of half the list - doh!

I was wondering about 500w vs 600w psu - the price difference isnt much. I play alot of games but dont really need mad resolutions. 1600x1200 would be my max for the forseable future.

Im tempted to go for 4GB ram but I hear 4GB can slow systems down, or just not be used. Cheers.

Your right 4GB isnt really used, but Vista is a different story and seems to appreciate that jump from 2 to 4. Many people will probably say theres slowdown from 2-4GB simply because 2GB (2 X 2Gb) sticks tend to have higher timings.

Personally I would go with 600W, if you are interested in the soundcard that will again push the wattage needed, 2 HDDs too, 600W I'd say is the safe PSU, you've saved money on the mobo anyway from your previous choice (BTW why 2 HDDs? Personal preference?)

8800GT > 8800GTS in performance, so yea The Alpha dog XXX definatly the best.

Having looked at your mobo, it might seem a little off on choice. Your paying for the fact that it supports DDR3 ram really, thus not buying DDR3 ram as your selection is DDR2 is just wasting the feature. This mobo I would recommend, simply because of the chipset (680i LT). You'll get everything you need on this mobo. If you are wondering why it is 'LT' that does stand for lite edition, click here for a table detailing what its missing from the 680i normal.

That mobo also has Sli, which offers future upgradability of getting another graphics card (of course they need to be the same). On current chipsets/motherboards/drivers, SLi will grant you on average about 1.8-1.9X performance over normal, from personal testing. If indeed you are interested in the SLi, for a future possible upgrade you will need the 600W PSU, 500W is pushing it.

This ram choice would seem better to me to be honest. OCZ has lifetime warranty on all of its products, and I will recommend them for RAM till the day I stop building computers. The best thing is they are built to take overclocking too, and your warranty will still be legally valid till you rise the voltage up past a certain point (if you are thinking of overclocking).

Also why 2 hard drives? Are you thinking of using the RAID function?

First off, for your budget, getting a decent overclocked 8800GT such as the one you added is your best graphics card for budget.

I have seen some cheaper RAM about, however I need to ask you a question regarding this, what operating system are you using? Vista requires more RAM than XP to run efficiently.

I will have to look for you really on Aria, I have always used Micro-Direct.co.uk, I find a lot of the times Aria is a tad struck for choice.

A soundcard isnt really needed, and to be honest, you need to fork out for one with SPU (sound processing unit), whereas the cheaper ones arent. As these have a hardware sound processor while relieves the CPU of having to process sounds. At any rate I recommend an X-Fi Fatality card which you could buy at a later date.

Your keyboard choice is good, best keyboard I ever got
