Quote from StableX :an ipod is limited to one PC? can't upload or change from any other PC apa\rt from a named one?

as far as I know, not with just the basic iTunes, for instance my computer has my music, but if I put my iPod in my laptop, iTunes trys to sync it with my laptop...basically wipe my ipod clean and put on the very little amount of music on there.

Quote from StableX :yeah, really would like the Zii Egg but it's not out

I do want it for MP3's but I'd also like other things too. One reason I like the Zii.

Well the obvious choice..the iPod, limits to one computer. The Creative's don't, and I much prefer Windows Media Player to iTunes.

After sorting out PayPal finally I was able to sign up to iRacing with a promotional code thats given me the basic pack for 3 months at $25 which I thought was a bargain to test the game and $10 credit.

So far I've not had much time really to get into it, being pre-occupied with other things at the moment but from what I can tell its going to be an amazingly rewarding game! It felt really good through my G25, so far only tested it and done 2 time trials, all Legends rookie around the small oval track.

Some good things about it so far:
I love the way its layed out and how you get into races
The ranking system too looks to be challenging and fair
Obviously physics and graphics are tasty

Still though it can the best damn simulation in the world, but its still far too expensive for me to consider it seriously. I guess once you've splashed out on a few tracks and things it won't be too bad, but when your on basic and seeing all the tracks and cars available to buy its quite daunting

To be honest I can see the subscription based simulation being more competitive for the reason you want to make use of the money you invested in it.

So far enjoying it, will probably keep it going if I can afford it easily, if it slows me down too much in earning a car I will have to stall it till then, but at the moment will try and get into it to at least give some driver a good race!

I am moving to Sweden in just under 2 years time if everything goes to plan. This thread is really regarding emigration in general..to anyone who has done it.

Basically I have been to Sweden a few times now and loved it, during a music festival which I went with a few mates I met a few Swedish people and have kept in contact ever since.

One of them is allowing me at the beginning of June to the end of August is letting me stay with her, in her apartment in Göteborg. An extended stay to see if I really like it, although I've already made up my mind but have to finish my studies

At any rate, I decided impulsively...and just want to get some advice really. Things can go wrong, but obviously there are ways of reducing that risk.

I've looked into what I need to emigrate...and it simply boils down to money, somewhere to live (thats sorted), learning Swedish and obviously a job.

To be fair, I can't see it much different from if I moved to a friends house at another end of the UK, other than the language barrier, but I loved everything about the country...the people, the sights...everything...the one thing I hated was seeing it fly by on the way home.

This thread is rather a hash job, there's so many questions I would like to know the answers too...don't know where to start. I guess a good place to start is on how to learn Swedish!

I'd also like to hear stories of emigration, no matter where you went

Quote from Crommi :What you're describing is a racecar. Supercars need to be desirable, have something else than just high performance figures.

A racecar is purely for the track, a supercar isn't. I agree they tend to look pretty too, but it will still be designed with aerodynamics and downforce in mind.

It might not look that nice but you have to admit, very impressive numbers and new methods at least that I've seen...and at the end of the day its a supercar which generally means its trying to be as fast as possible so I wouldn't really expect it to look anything other than functional.

Quote from PAracer :Exactly what he said. A class is good and will help you find a job, but you will not be considered a mechanic until you have the years of experience. It's always good to learn from someone who has experience. You'll learn more from that than by reading a book.

The best way to learn how to be a mechanic is to buy a rare car. Something where the replacement parts are hard to find, expensive, and in some cases completely obsolete.

With experience and time, you will be able to logically diagnose issues. Just learn to read wiring and vacuum diagrams, understand how the components of a car work, and you will do fine.

BTW, what is your current level of expertise? Do you work on your own car? Are you like me and avoid letting other people touch your car at all costs? Would you be afraid to rebuild your transmission?

At the moment I only the know basics...as in how the basic engine works, brake discs etc...but only to a 'this does that' level on most part.

I really want to get into cars, and don't have any friends or family in the industry. Essentially I have to be guided by pure passion and willpower to teach myself and that is something at this time I am quite happy to earn. I know people don't see it as such a hard job, but I hope to take it further. I see this as a good starting point.

Thanks for all your help so far, we have an alotment with a shed at the top...it used to be owned by a mechanic and when we opened it after 20 odd years we found loads of old car parts in there...was pretty cool. I was looking at them all, finding out what they were amazed! The shed has a hoist and a dug out to go under the car. Since I have access to it, with an access road at the back...I could buy a cheap motor and fix it up. Its just not that easy to get it there, I'd have to get it there via trailer or something. There's also a couple of scrapyards I know of where I could probably get the parts I require. Experience could be gained there

My uncle is a welder, been so for 20 odd years, also welding apparatus up there too...which is apparently still working. He offered to teach me.

Also unfortunately I do not own my own car...yet. Hence why I need the money.

I have a job at the moment but not in the mechanic industry...the advice is very good and I really would want to do that but it would certainly have to be a paid placement because at the moment I really do need the money.

Hello! Just a quick one...starting college soon doing a light vehicle mechanic course for 2 years, and possibly 3 to be fully qualified.

Just really asking what the best reading and referencing material would be for this...any help would be brilliant!

Thanks in advance!
