124? That's nothing, I've seen 500mph on the dash of a UF1.

There may have been a little modification in Mechanik

Chalk another one up for LX6/RAC/FZ5 at Aston North, a combination made in heaven.

That server last night was fun. First time I'd ever driven on AS North and I think it's my new favourite track for S1 cars

I don't mind the safety features in F1 cars, it's the safety REGULATIONS I dislike. The FIA has too much say in what happens to cars/tracks, when F1 has always been about pushing technology to the limit to make the fastest possible cars; whether it's from 6-wheeled Tyrells, to cars with fans to suck them to the ground. Bring back the days of technical innovation, I don't care if TC is included. That said, the main problem with F1 isn't the cars, it's the uninspiring tracks. F1 goes to whoever pays the most, so new, "safe" (boring) tracks make up most of the calendar. Tracks like Shanghai, which seem to have no soul or defining features. We need to get tracks like Brands GP, Laguna Seca, Donnington. These are tracks that are interesting for people to watch on TV, and tracks that the drivers love to race on, they're fed up with slow 1st and 2nd gear corners, they want speed, they want danger. I know it's not F1, but one of Valentino Rossi's favourite tracks is Donnington, and other riders love the thrill of the Corkscrew.

Greboth, if you want to see fast racing with no TC, ABS or other driver aids, check out A1GP. The TV coverage may not be up to much, but the racing is close and intense, especially the street circuits. I was at the opening round at Brands and it was a wonderful sight to behold them tearing down Paddock Hill on the opening lap.

Quote from Darkone55 :Probably because of Eau Rouge? Posted it somewhere on the forums here before, but I do it again, it's such a nice pic.

Looks more like he's hit a patch of sand (there's more in front of him) than wood dust, but v. nice picture.

I don't want to go off topic on my own post, but the racing in BTCC really gets on my nerves. I went to watch the final once at Brands in the 90's and one of the Volvos was about to win the race (and championship) but a Vauxhall quite blatantly barged him into the gravel at Clearways to stop him winning. Ever since Audi/Alfa/Volvo left the BTCC it's gone downhill.
The Plank

It's the little details like this that make LFS.

I was messing around in the CMX viewer after I'd finished my skin, and I notice that Scavier had gone put a plank on the bottom of the BF1, just like the real thing.

For those who haven't heard of the plank, it's attached to the bottom of every F1 car, and the thickness measured at the end of the race to make sure the cars aren't running too low to the ground. When ride height rules were first enforced, teams would still make their cars run extremely low at speed, but on the last lap the drivers would bounce the cars around on the kerbs to get them up to the legal height. The plank stops this because if the cars run low in the race, it scrapes on the track and gets thinner.

I wonder if plank physics are modelled? Will we see "legal" and "illegal" sets?

Kawasaki BF1 skin, I found it easy to skin this car by opening the BF1_DEFAULT file and setting the contrast to 100, gives you a perfect outline of the car.

Similar to my FO8 skin, but I actually put some writing on this one.

IRL, most F1 and GTR cars will automatically cut the throttle when the driver shifts up and blip it when the driver shifts down, so it's no less "realistic".

I use those features in LFS, but only because I race with a joystick, so it's not possible to blip the throttle while braking, and cutting it when upshifting would be very difficult without accidently braking.

Why not just use "cut throttle on upshift"?

I'm looking forward to racing this thing in SO and KY, nobody ever has races in the GTR cars or FO8 at SO and it's one of the most exciting combinations in the game. KY GP and KY Nat will be great, too.

As for ovals, they can sometimes be fun, provided you're a good enough driver to avoid all the "noobs" at the back half of the field. I can't think of any other track that lets you race at 200mph, only a few metres from 3 other cars. Hopefully the "FO1" won't be used on the oval, I think that's where the FO8 should stay.

Quote from th84 :Havent we had those for a while now?? I think i remember using grooved tyres in the mrt back on s1??? I could be wrong, it may be mary jane speaking for me

I haven't used the MRT in a long, long, LONG time, but weren't they just road tyres?

My point was that if this is an F1 car, a little detail like grooved slicks goes to show that the devs may be making it more realistic that some people earlier in the thread have given them credit for. They aren't the sort of people that would throw away a chance like this with a half-hearted attempt.

Heck, maybe we'll have wet tyres for s3

Is anyone else terrified at the idea of driving an F1 style car around BLGP? I've made cars that can do 200mph with Mechanik and they're horrible to drive, but that's mainly because of tyre issues, hopefully that's been sorted out. Traction control would probably needed in a 750bhp RWD car too

Graphics card for LFS/GTL?

With the current generation of games passing me by, I've decided it's time to give my computer a little treat. I'm not interested in running anything on full with 60fps, but it'd be nice to be able to play LFS at a higher setting, and I'd also like to be able to run GTL.

I'm currently running a 2.2GHz P4 with 256mb of RAM and a GeForce 4 MX440. Other than buying more RAM, I'm looking at getting a new GPU.

I'm restricted to AGP because of the mobo in this beast, and I'm also restricted financially.

I've come up with the following options, but some of them don't appear in any tests I've looked at, are there any favourites in the group below?

X700 Pro 256Mb
6600GT 128Mb
X800GT 256Mb
6800 128Mb

I like the look of the X700 and 6600GT because they're cheaper than the other two, the X800 would really be pushing it. I'd much rather spend money on my REAL car than on fake ones, if you get what I mean.
Give it a go; AI Fun

I've never been one for racing the AI, but when there are no good servers online and I don't fancy a hotlapping session there's a little thing I like to do in LFS.

I'll set up a race with only AI cars and watch it pan out, I like to set them challenges and see who comes out on top. This morning I had a nice 2 lap KYGPLong 12 car race, with the road versions of cars racing their S2 and race equivalents. I put the slower cars at the front to give them a chance, but the F08 managed to fight to the front, followed by the FZR and the FXR just beat the MRT to 3rd by under half a second.

The results can be interesting, I've noticed on SOTown races that the FXO and FZ50 are extremely capable of performing against FXRs and FZRs. You'll often find yourself having to restart the race though, as it can be a bit messy into the first corner (not like that'll be unusual to anyone who races in public servers)

Try it for yourself and see how fun it can be, though I don't recommend joining in, the AI are f4g n00bs!!!111

What an amazing idea! Now only if there was a track like that in real life, which we could pay to drive our own cars around...

It would be excellent to see a real track in LFS, especially something like the Nordschleife or Brands.

One thing I never want to see is tracks that have been converted from other games: You see this sort of thing in GPL and nascar games all the time, and most of them look like arse. Eric would have to make these tracks, and this means that the devs would have to fork out for a license for them, which is pricey.

How about we all pitch together and buy the rights for Eric to create the digital likeness of a track?
