A good point, made by someone on the F1Technical forums:

Quote :Here is the chronology of events:

Grid: Alonso 15th (on soft tyres - unlike the rest of the field), Piquet 16th
Lap 1: Alonso is up to 10th
Lap 12: Alonso pits to get rid of his soft tyres
Lap 15: Piquet crashes, safety car brought out. Barrichello and two Red Bulls pit prior to pitlane closing
Lap 16: Kubica & Rosberg both need to pit under a closed pitlane
Lap 17: Massa pits, problems with procedure means he drags the fuel hose out on early release. Plummets to dead last
Lap 18: Race order - Rosberg, Trulli, Fisichella
Lap 27: Kubica in for penalty
Lap 29: Rosberg in (from lead) for penalty
Half distance: Trulli pits, Alonso now takes lead
Lap 50: Sutil crashes, safety car deployed again

So for this master plan to work...

From lap 12, Renault would have had to know that Rosberg would have to take a stop-go for a pitstop that was yet to occur under a safety car that was yet to occur.

They would also have had to know Massa would have destroyed the Ferrari refuelling rig, derailing both his and Raikkonen's races.

That Coulthard would delay Hamilton significantly at a key stage before Alonso's second stop.

Quote from AlexC :Indeed they could, though what would be the appeal? How many servers would they have running in their own network compared to the current official ones? Users would get a far better experience running on the official ones, than third party - which would be the same incentive that people get to buy a (race) license currently

How do you know that? Do you really think everyone would still choose to pay for a license if somebody was able to take the code, rewrite it so the official master server is not involved and then distribute it for free? It's hard enough to get demo users to buy licenses when they only have 3 cars, give them all of the cars/tracks and it would be impossible.

Quote from AlexC :People wouldn't be able to jump in and change the code without permission. In fact, they would never get their hands on the RCS/DVS system that is currently being used. Patches could be sent, but the developers can freely choose to ignore/decline/accept them. No one can tamper with the code.

The whole point of open source is that anybody can change anything without permission.

Hardly, the suspension parts on the hydraulic Citroens are surprisingly cheap, and on the later models (Xantia onwards) the system is pretty reliable.

Working on the system is also simple, I replaced the front spheres on my Xantia for £35 including the tool I needed to do it, and it's easier than changing the headlight bulb.

It'll only seem expensive if you make the mistake of getting a garage to do the work, because they will convince you it's difficult when it really isn't.

I think your main insurance problem is where you live. Manchester is probably very high up the risk scale for insurance companies.

Have a look at Citroens. Mechanically they'll run forever, but check for stupid broken things like faulty window switches and other electric parts. They're not massively quick, but they are massively cheap and massively comfortable. I bought a Xantia 1.9TD a couple of years ago for £137, perfect mechanically but like I said it had some stupid electronic problems (one door wouldn't unlock, one window wouldn't open and the rev counter didn't function). Driving it was like driving and armchair, eventually I sold it (for £200 with over 200k miles!), but now I miss it.

He's 'borrowed' an F2007 from someone in the Ferrari Clienti programme, which is where you can 'buy' Ferrari F1 cars, only Ferrari keep them and decide when/where you use them.

Quote from -wes- :I think he does, I'm sure Ferrari gave him an F1 car at some point.

Maybe they did, but it wouldn't be anything recent. There's a lot more to running an F1 car than just turning it on.

NOBODY at F1 teams (or any company supplying F1 teams) is allowed to do ANYTHING related to F1 work over the next two weeks.

Unless he owns his own personal F2008 & support team, and/or his own personal F60 simulator, he's not going to be able to get any practise in. We're all packing up and going home for two weeks.

He's lucky he managed to regain consciousness in time to slam on the brakes and down the gears.

Had he been knocked out and kept the throttle open he would be dead. Even in a 2009 F1 car three rows of tyres aren't going to keep you alive at 200mph.

Can we get some weather information added to the GP threads? Something along the lines of weather for the past 5 years, and maybe a forecast for the weekend?

Lick the PSU, see if it hurts.

On a serious note, have any caps burst or are there any other signs of damage on the mobo?
Good PC Building Sites/Communities?

I'm tearing my hair out listening to my PC friend going "is this good?" "what about this?" "what psu do I need?" when I haven't been interested in building computers for a while now.

Anybody know any good websites with up-to-date information of decent systems at varying price points?

People can't claim it's because he's being dominated by his team mate.

He has 2 points, Buemi has 3. Hardly a huge difference. His actual finishes are normally slightly higher than Buemi as well.

STR are nowhere, and they'll still be nowhere with Alguersuari.

If they really think that replacing a very skilled driver will solve their problems then they are very much mistaken. STR are obviously nowhere when it comes to getting their car ready, or Buemi would be destroying Bourdais, which isn't happening.

What I think is most likely is that Bourdais is expensive (mature, experieinced, skilled) and Alguersuari is cheap/free (young, lots of sponsors)

I love Ross Brawn's reply to Rubens, along the lines of "I don't know how he was expecting to win a race with the 11th fastest lap time."

Brawn have no need to worry about money for this year, which is why they have not bothered finding a title sponsor.

Next year, however, they will have to fund themselves. I expect they will have spent a lot of time this year sorting out an amazing deal for 2010.

Quote from diablo21 :They didn't have street driving in mind when building that car. Or they did, but after designing it for the track.

Other way round. The F1 was designed for road and then some owners managed to convince Mclaren to make some race versions.

I'm very worried about Donnington ending up like the A1 Ring.

If Bernie decides he wants to stay at Silverstone, Donnington loses the only reason for the refurbishment and probably most of its financial backing. With no money the work will stop and we'll be stuck with a half finished track in a state where no racing can take place and therefore no money can be made to finish it or even get it to useable quality.

Someone put a video up of the Pescarolo Pugs crash.

Quite a flight.

As far as number of cars goes, apparently last year they had enough spares (including tubs) for 5 cars.

Red Bull are also normally very slow on a Friday.

Looking at FP1 it looks like RB were running low fuel, then Brawn decided to also run low fuel as a comparison. FP2 looks like RB were still lower than everyone else.

Quote from Intrepid :What other dimensions need to be thought about are the Junior drivers. Let's take Oliver Rowland. He is under contract at McLaren and if a new series came to fruition then surely the FIA wouldn't be overly happy that a driver licenced and racing with them is signed to McLaren. Threats of licence withdrawal for drivers signed to teams outside of F1 could be possible throwing the whole motorsport scene into chaos. And to anyone who thinks thats beyond the FIA need to remember the FIA threatened to remove Scott Speed and Luizzi's Super Licences if they competed in an American Kart Race that was not FIA sanctioned.

HHmm...

How could the FIA taking away licenses have any affect on a series they don't run? A super license means nothing if it's not F1.

The FOTA teams should move to Monoposto

The FIA will assume the cost of parts based on some probably very accurate estimates.
