Thanks. I wanted something RWD, and the Mk1/2 Escorts are too expensive. Mine's going in for it's MOT tomorrow, hopefully it'll pass, because I'm taking it on a 1500 mile trip round Europe next month.
God yes! It's worse on the motorway where there's less of a speed difference, so you can see them in your mirror blinding you for ages, then they get past and proceed to blind you for the next 2 minutes.
That's not always possible in a busy race. IRL, things like this would be displayed on a pit board, which we don't (but should) have. GPL had one, it doesn't have to be fancy.
My girlfriend's family earn well below the amount you need to qualify for maximum EMA, she used the money only to pay for college related things, and any she had left over is saved for uni
She could have used her excess EMA on unnecessary things, but she didn't. Instead she got a job as well, which she used to pay for things she "wanted".
I bloody love that thing. I spent almost all day trying to manually bleed my brakes on Wednesday and I didn't even finish bleeding the servo. Bought myself the Eezibleed and I had the entire car done in under an hour. Time to get it MOT'd and off I go (slowly)!
On the bottom RIGHT of our screen we have the running order display (for lack of a better name). It serves it's purpose quite well, but it leaves a little to be desired.
My first suggestion is for it to show what lap somebody is on (at least the leader). Whenever I join a race after it's started I'm always wondering how many laps are left, with this on the display I could look to see what lap the leader is on. It doesn't need to show other drivers. But if it did; it would let you know whether to push to try to reach the next driver, or if you could take it easy if you had more than a lap to the next guy behind.
My other suggestion is for races where a pit stop is compulsory. When somebody completes their pit stop, the bar behind their name turns green. For long races, holding a key down would change the lap counter to a pit counter.
Another thing I'd like to see is a change in the way gaps are measured. At the moment, if there is a split between yourself and another driver you aren't shown the time gap. I'd like to see the time between me and another driver, regardless of splits in between.
I've attached a picture to show what the first two ideas could look like.
There would have to be an extremely large speed difference for you to not be able to slow when you see the yellow flag. The only time I can imagine a driver getting away with it would be if they had already initiated a pass and were alongside the other driver, in which case LFS would be able to work out whether or not to penalise. If the driver in front slowed for the flag and you pulled out and overtook, you would be penalised.
Motorcyclists who overtake people on both sides by riding at 80mph between two lanes (often the slow lane and middle lane). I don't mind you doing it when traffic is stopped, but it's just dangerous at motorway speeds. I don't care about you if you want to do something that stupid, but I feel sorry for whoever it is that kills you when they pull back into their lane.
I want to see people punished! I'm tired of being taken out by people cutting across the yellow line out of the pits, crossing the line should be a drive-through.
People who get a stop-go or drive-through should have to complete the penalty within three laps, as in real racing. If they don't, they should get a "XXX did not finish"
People who overtake when "yellow flag" is displayed on screen should get a drive-through. There have been countless times where I've seen "yellow flag" and backed off, only to be passed by some idiot who then crashes into a parked car and bounces into me, ruining my race. I know the current yellow flag calculation is pretty bad, but it's better than nothing.
On a recent marshal training day, we were all told quite plainly that it's up to the person passing to get around the backmarker. True, the car in front isn't allowed to block as if it were racing for position. But it should not slow down/move out of the way on a straight, as that would be extremely dangerous. When it comes to corners, the slower driver should not defend it's position, so common sense prevails with most drivers and they take a slower/wider line. IRL, if you tried to over take a blue flagged driver on a dangerous chicane like South City, you'd be liable for any accident you caused.
A lapped driver is always allowed to "unlap" itself, provided it's safe to do so. The same passing rules as normal would apply (if it crashed into the car it was unlapping, it would be at fault).
At a real race meeting, the drivers would be gathered at the beginning of the session and have the rules for that meeting explained to them, that way there would be no grey areas like in LFS.
People who overtake you and then pull back in and drive slower than you were before.
On the road outside my house, they are closing one side at a time to do roadworks. They are using traffic lights to let people through, there have been several occasions where I've nearly had an accident because someone has got bored with waiting at their end and decided to go AGAINST A RED LIGHT (!). One person came about an inch from driving their car down a 3ft trench, I was very tempted to back my car into theirs so they fell in.
They may have changed the programme since I last entered, but back then it used to pit you if you had damaged suspension from hitting the wall, which was VERY annoying.
Do they still ban you for passing on the right? It's racing, not a conga line!
It's time I admitted to my shameful past. I used to race the V8 on the FM Oval server quite a lot. I put up with the annoying "XXXX has made a new PB" and other messages, but only because when I commented on them I was kicked. Then things started to get worse. I pitted during a race and waited IN MY PIT BOX for the race to finish, I was given a temporary ban for "sitting in the track". That really got on my nerves. After a while I decided it was time to forgive and forgot, and headed back into the server. It was horrible, it's impossible to drive with so many distractions and I was constantly being sent back to the pits by the over-intrusive programme the server runs.
I understand that this is to stop bad drivers ruining people's races, but I have a better idea for you: Run two servers. Have the current server open to the public, and start a new "pro" server where either a) drivers under a certain time are banned or b) have it password protected, with the password somewhere on these forums/FM website.
You came here to ask what people thought of FM and the community. My response is that I used to like racing oval servers when I fancied a speed blast. I would put up with the attitude (some) of your admins and (some) of the other people on the server (some of the BBR drivers, especially), because it was the only busy oval server around. But because of your over-zealous robo admin it's now a horrible place to drive, and I doubt I'll ever return.
