So you're saying that you might have to pay £400(a full month's rent I'm guessing) for 11 days in June? Over here if you're only staying for part of a month the landlord will normally prorate the rent based on the amount of time you'll be there for that month, so for you it would be £140 or so if I calculated that correctly. I'm not sure if there is any legal precedence but from my experiences and what I've gotten from talking to friends landlords are usually pretty easy to work with and aren't going to try to rip you off if you aren't staying somewhere the full month. Have you talked to your landlord about how much you need to pay for June?
Yeah I wish they'd open that up so everyone could check out the stats, don't see why you'd need to hide that. Not sure if that's been suggested in the forums over there or not.
With all the effort that they've put in so far I can't see iRacing failing, but I think they're going to have to make some changes at some people to get more people to sign up. I'd love to see some numbers showing their subscription rate.
This is exactly what happened with the new schedule. John Henry admitted that they have about twice as many series as they should, they killed a couple off and now people can't race with the content they paid for. They need to increase their users not kill off series that people signed up to race in.
And by increase users, I'm thinking lower prices. Its pretty much the only solution I see.
They've got all this great content in the works, the problem they're going to run in to is that they don't have enough subscribers to race in all these series because the price is still keeping too many people away. The only way they can open up space for new series is to kill off old ones(that people still race), which is just going to piss people off. Their system works pretty well I'd say, but I don't think it has enough people to support it, and the problem is probably only going to get worse.
Next season they were changing the SK's from a daily series to a one day a week series, seems like a lot of people are against this though so hopefully iRacing sorts it out.
I guess, I just don't see the point of making it only one day a week though, so now if I am busy on the weekend, I can't race the modified at all that week, if they gave a weekday too like Wednesday it might not be as bad.
Also I don't see why participation numbers matter, the 3 US night time slots had enough guys for a race every night from what I saw, even if participation is low, obviously some people enjoy racing it. If people want to race that series then why stop them? So now we have 4 full fendered oval series and the only open wheel one left is one day a week. Oh well, guess I'll buy the late model and move on, its not really a big deal just annoys me because when I signed up for iRacing the modifieds are the car I wanted to race the most, and now they get the shaft 2 weeks into my subscription.
Garbage, new schedule is out and modified races are only once a week again, I never even got to do a full season. They had official races every night in that division...I don't get why they killed it off.
What are you guys going to race next season? I'm going to go with the Mazda for road racing, and I'll probably stick to the SK modified for ovals because its so much fun to drive. I haven't gotten a chance to try out the trucks online yet, so maybe I'll do those instead of the modifieds but I doubt it. Just wish they would release the schedule and Nationwide car so I can buy more crap.
You can go online in the trial, but won't be able to race with either of those cars as they require higher licenses. You can use them offline for practice though. You'll start off with the Solstice and Legends car for online, and you could make it to the Skippy and Late Model during the trial period I think, you'd have to buy those(plus tracks) though.
Finally did some Skippy racing to get my SR up for end of season promotions. Didn't like the car at first but it is a lot of fun once you get the hang of it. I'm looking forward to racing the Mazda next season.
Actually, people invest a lot more money than just the cost of the game. You have wheels, monitors, computers, racing seats, in some cases all just bought to play LFS for the time being. I realize this is not the devs responsibility since the person chooses to buy these things, but the cost of an LFS license is hardly the amount people invest in racing. People with this kind of an investment would obviously appreciate a developer blog to know what's going on.
I agree with you on the second point though, people would complain about things constantly if things don't move along as fast as they want. But people complain now anyway, I can't see it being much worse with a blog. I give it a +1, I'd love to know what they're working on while we wait for the next patch. I realize the devs are damned if they do, damned if they don't in regards to giving out news on the development of LFS, I say just give us an update everyone once and a while so we know what's going on. Just my opinion though.
The house always wins overall, but a single person can get lucky and beat the house. You can put down a ton of money on black and you COULD double your money then walk away. You could also lose though. They house doesn't always win in the short term, but in the long term they will.
Story of getting lucky with roulette. Last year at a friend's bachelor party we all threw in 10 bucks for him to go put down on the roulette table. I think we started with $120 or something. He bet it on black(or maybe it was red, whatever) and won. We told him take half off and go again, doubled up again. We told him to do the same, and he won for a third time. We walked out of there with almost $500, which we then said could ONLY be spent on lap dances, for the bachelor, at the strip club. He was in the back room almost the entire night. If he kept playing roulette he would have lost eventually, but it is possible to get really lucky in the short term.
I prefer blackjack when I go to casinos, which is rarely.
I didn't even know Ambrose played iRacing, looks like he does modified races every once and a while though so maybe I'll see him on there. Last week I did the 6:15 and 10:15 on Wednesday, he did the 8:15, doh!
This is highly dependent on what time you are online. I actually feel the exact opposite here, when I'm on LFS at night there are rarely any fully populated servers, so most of my time is spent looking for a race, waiting for the current race to end, etc. With iRacing on the other hand, I know exactly when a race is and I think there had only been one case so far where there weren't enough people to make it a points paying race for me. I can freely do other things around the apartment with iRacing, and I know that I can go over to my computer at 8:10 and there will be people ready to race at 8:15, no time spent sitting around waiting. I guess its just a personal thing, I used to do pickup race after pickup race but don't do that so much any more, I find iRacing's schedules work better for me.
