Some people think of guns the way you think of cars. Some people have impractical collections and fetishes for both.

What you're proposing is the equivalent of bureaucrats forcing their way into your garage and taking a sledge hammer to your pride and joy, just because it isn't street legal.

Your arguments may have their points and reasons, but be a little more sensitive when you're talking about someone's [possibly] life-long passion for fine, precision machinery.

You're not just saying street racing is dangerous and that kind of driving/machinery should be confined to the racetrack. What you're imprudent to preach is more analogous to: All forms of motorsport are dangerous; all forms of motorsport are wasteful of human life; therefore all racecars serve no useful purpose and should be banned and destroyed. Museum pieces and all. Oh, and that anyone who would drive one is a "****ing danjerous paranoid psycho cowboy who should be eradicated."

Wouldn't it frustrate you just a tad if that were the consensus?

While this post was not entirely directed at Gunn, it amazes me every day that this forum newbie is not only not banned, but maintains moderator status. Go look at his posts. Find something useful or helpful. I wonder how many of his nearly 4000 insults to this community have been self-deleted to try to avoid embarrassment.

Quote from thisnameistaken :Totally O/T: That's a fancy dash. Where did it come from? Did you type this post in a word processor then paste it into your browser, or did you copy the dash from some other app. manually, making you a total punctuation nerd?

It's an Em-dash, and I just hit alt+0151—try it.

Quote from Shotglass :re writes all his posts in latex first

about a year ago i got a uni write up back with correction from the prof and one of them was that i had used the "wrong" dash ... some people

totally o/t: school shootings wouldnt happen at all if teenagers didnt have access to guns

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dash "A dash is a punctuation mark. It is longer than a hyphen and is used differently."

Any determined individual will always be able to acquire a firearm illegally. Do you suppose a homicidal/suicidal maniac is going to respect gun control laws?

The problem is, there are a lot of bad people in America—with guns.

No amount of gun control is going to change that. "Gun control" only takes guns away from those who obey laws.

The only way to level the playing field is to give guns to the good guys, too.

Recent school shootings, for example, would not have been nearly as successful if the perpetrator didn't have the only guns.

I have to say Ron Paul's almost as anti-government as I am... and apparently he's actually read the constitution. The "rest" of the "republicans" are just fascist war-hungry money-wasting blinded-by-the-light hunt-down-the-muslims biggot Bush-supporters. Basically what I can't stand about the leftists is how they want a big government to run everything and do everything for you.

W/R/T wasting money, if I had it my way, we'd take after Switzerland—or better yet, Costa Rica. NOT North Korea!

And regarding most of the issues debated, it shouldn't be any of the fed's business! Let the people take care of themselves at the individual level.

Fuchs and Fuchsbau are real German last names. Fox is just as vulgar-sounding to an English ear.

Fogão is a Português word.

Phục is a vietnamese name.

Quote from wheel4hummer :Fatter tires don't give you any help when cornering. In order to maintain complete contact with the road, you have to increase the negative camber. Only problem is, if you increase the static camber then you will have worse straight line traction. So to compensate for wider tires you have to install a looser anti-roll bar to avoid messing up the straight-line traction. And the wider tires will wear much faster because it will be sheared in two different directions while cornering.

Nevertheless, if your tire rolls over a marble or a little blotch of oil or water, the wider the tire is the less % of the contact patch is on the slippery substence. If 100% is on oil, you've lost all your grip; if 50% is on oil, you've only lost half.

they should all increase 50 - 100 more horsepower.

I've been playing LFS since 2002. The cars ARE five years old!

Old cars LOSE power over the years, if anything!

Quote from XCNuse :nitrogen is often used instead of tires

I use nitrogen in my cars' tires. Never thought about that before... LFS should model this—at least for the BF1. Should, but I have my doubts

+1 if this were an improvement suggestion

Quote from Willem-racer :hmmm shift +f is cool to race but i think that the server should control wether shift +f is enabled or disabled cause its also more realistic

Quote from xaotik :O the hardships of simulated racing.

Not so! In real life you know this information before the race has started and after the race has ended. It would be simulating some kind of 'helen keller edition' racing if it didn't show you.

You already know what temperature your tires are before a race—that wouldn't exactly be much of a cheat either.

I mean, who doesn't know what grid position they're starting from, or where they finished?

Quote from sinbad :It's the typical knee-jerk "defend LFS without thinking" reaction. Benefit of the doubt given there, I only hope that if these people thought for a moment about the effect this sort of thing could have then they wouldn't post it. It's ironic, because by jumping to the defense of LFS (I assume that's the intention) they're probably bringing something to the forum that does it no good at all in terms of attracting people. This chap might not buy a license now, neither might the next demo racer or complete newbie to read it.

True, but it's also common decency to pay for something you ask someone to do for you. People who don't, they tend to be frowned upon (as you have seen).

This isn't always the case for demo-user suggestions. Some of them are innovative.

Just hit CTRL+SHIFT. (FPS....and tire temps)

Like brakes (and tires), there has to be an ideal temp for the clutch/flywheel surfaces, right? or does a cold clutch grip as well as a 'warm' clutch?

Maybe the difference in grip is negligible with temperatures > freezing, but maybe LFS is not simulating this?

Quote from MAGGOT :He's not talking about a neutral button (if I understand correctly). He's saying that when you press the 'shift up' button, the gearbox goes into neutral, then into the next gear instead of going directly to the new gear.

[EDIT] Or maybe he is. Damn my slow typing. :P

No, you're right.

Nevertheless, a "neutral button" would be a better addition than nothing.

Quote from XCNuse :Well as discussed in one of the threads recently about a neutral button, the only vehicle I know that has a neutral button is F1 cars.

After looking through some pictures of car interiors, I can't find any other vehicle with anything related to a neutral button. Just searched through google to see if i could find anythinkg else that has a neutral button and found nothing.
So.. who knows, but the BMW Sauber needs one for sure.

Yes, but every [h-gate] vehicle has the ability to access neutral with a flick of the wrist. One motion. With buttons in LFS you have to put the clutch in, and cycle through the gears. My point is that's less realistic than having a "neutral button."
