Quote from JTbo :So why on earth does my oven sometimes seem bit slow, also one day best I could out of it was 250 when it should go to 300?

Is there anything that could be done to make it hit 300 every time and as fast as it does at it's best now?

It's winter in Finland...

Your oven just needs a sweater to stay warm!

Quote from dougie-lampkin :NO shifters are analogue, because they are all buttons...
Analogue is like a pedal, it's variable, whereas digital is 1/0, nothing in between...

With G25 shifter you can go from any gear to neutral and vice-versa.

EDIT: damn my 3 minute typing!

I realized this, but an H gate shifter is not just either on or off. It's several buttons.

It is digital, but for lack of a better word... it isn't what I meant.

Quote from MAGGOT :I think he's referring to using buttons and/or paddles/sequential on the cars with a gated shifter, for those who do not have the hardware to simulate it.

What he said. ;]

Quote from XCNuse :Well.. care to explain lol I'm not sure what you mean?
I saw it, I just have no idea what you mean by digital, what type of shifter are you talking about?

Well, I meant KB or wheel buttons (paddles). By digital I meant to imply any input that is either 1 or 0; on or off.

Quote from XCNuse :With my ACT Labs H shifter, I can shift into neutral from any gear without touching my clutch.

Quote from DragonCommando :When I was using my joystick as a shifter I could go to nutral fro many gear, and go to any gear from nutral.

Did either of you happen to read the word DIGITAL in the thread title? (hint: it's not analogue!)

Quote from sgt.flippy :Yes I do, and it saved me all the trouble of whining here about burning up the clutch

Don't be so sure of that! Auto clutch spends much more time riding the clutch than any moderately proficient button pusher or real-life driver would manually. Anyway, I have a hunch all the whiners were using auto.

Quote from Iron :I would like to know that too.

Less (next to no) slip for fast starts, and unrealistically low RPM is possible to save the clutch (<500).

You have to really, really be trying to put heat in your clutch in LFS to succeed (as it seems to me). I think part of the problem is people are flatshifting while using auto clutch, and this is just unrealistically slow. If you were flatshifting in real life, you would spend much less time on the clutch.
H-pattern gearbox: Clutchless digital neutral selection

I was thinking about how you can't "downshift" from 1st gear into neutral without touching the clutch. But then, I thought, even with the clutch you can't drop into neutral from any other gear directly, save reverse.

One idea would be: When the button is pressed to change the gear, neutral is selected (regardless of clutch input). When the button is released with the clutch in, the next gear is selected. When it is released without touching the clutch, neutral is kept. This better illustrates the physical two-step act of changing gears: Click, click. However, it is still impossible to go fifth->neutral->third (for example).

Either way, it has been mentioned that a realistic way to select neutral (perhaps at the touch of a designated 'neutral button') would be a sensible amendment. That is, without going through all the intermediate gears à la sequential.

I realise that this is generally insignificant when it comes to racing, but it is nevertheless a noticeable realism flaw.

Got any better ideas?

The thing I've been wondering is: how do you guys get the clutch in LFS to overheat by flatshifting?

-1—not fast enough. An option for an option, if anything.

I say we do away with the shift lights altogether in most or all of the non-race cars. (an old plea)

Required pit stop doesn't mean required tire changes; expect to be passed in the pits.

There hasn't been a single patch or update or improvement I remember which hasn't thrilled me. LFS just keeps getting better.

Quote from DeKo :the rev limiter isnt really there for that, its there to clean up the mess that humans can make missing shifts and stuff.

Those people shouldn't be driving race cars

...humans? hah... well, you know the kind.

I hear ya. You do make a fair argument.

I'll hafta be indifferent on this one.

but at least we know the MRT5 is done right—just need to figure out a way to drift that sucker!

Quote from andybarsblade :seems that peek power is set to 8948rpm, and that the limiter kicks in at 9200 (ish) meaning that it seems changing up at the 4th light is best. hmm not much of a gap between peak power and the limiter though? seems the same deal on the fox now.

Edited to add: ive just tryed to read the rev's and it seems 9000rpm is 4/5 lights but 8900 is 2 so not sure anymore. gonna stick with shifting at 2/3

Careful, you want to shift after peak power.

Power peaks, then tapers off till it's finally equal to next gear's power, which is when the shift light comes on. This is why the shift light comes on later the taller (with relation to the selected gear) the next gear is.

Food for thought: A race car wouldn't need a limiter if there were no need or temptation to rev that high.

Quote from Mako. :Some of the cars with the problem are the UF1000/UFR, and the XRG/XRT.

Those cars only have four or five forward gears

Is it that hard to remember (or even visualise) what gear you are in?

If you're having trouble bogging down in first gear (only reason I can imagine wanting to downshift TWICE more), it's probably way too tall!

We need our reverse @ 200 kmh for our mad 360 stunt skillz!
