I know that TeamSpeak and Ventrilo are the voice chats most poeple use, but I never really got to like them. Maybe I'm stupid, but I feel I never had any real control over them.
I use an old version of Roger Wilco (last non commercial version) and even though it's not as crisp clear as Team Speak or Ventrilo, it does the job it's supposed to do.
It's small, easy to setup and use and it's totally free.
ZoneAlarm - Best and easiest firewall there is
Avast antivirus - Has never let me down
Ad Aware - Just to be sure
This protection doesn't cost a thing when it's for personal use. It's also very system friendly and doesn't eat up resources like those other heavy products on the market.
IMO the only thing that should show and not be able to be turned off is the flags. I can do fine without positions and chat messages, but the flags should always be there, Shift+F or not.
Did a similar construction using a seat from a Mazda 626. Kept the mechanics under the seat so it's adjustable both in hight and length and the back is of course also adjustable.
This way I can use a more upright position for GT and TouringCar racing, and if I feel like it, tilt the back and lower the seat for that "open wheel" feeling
Feel free to explain at any time possible
I do like this when I calculate how many cars I can have in the race.
I test my bandwidth using one of the many serives on the internet (PCPitstop, TPTest etc.) and I get a number. This number I enter into LFS and then add cars until it says "No more or your computer will blow up and your wife will divorce you".
What I get is usually not the bandwidth I pay for (1Mbit upstream) but rather like 850Kbit, witch at the moment would allow me to host 17 cars and 23 guests. Right?... Right!...
If I switch to Nascar Heat, I can host 29 cars with that upload speed in thin mode. In normal or "thick" mode I end up with a limit of 16 cars.
Yes it's good, but Heat is actually even better, and support 43 cars on track
If I get a DSL service available here with even faster upload I would like to host a 43 car GT grid
--- Edit ---
The thing is... Heat has a "thin" mode as well as a normal mode when hosting. In thin mode you sacrifice two things, witch are brake lights and visible slides (by other vehicles). In thick mode, you can host less cars since there are more strain on the bandwidth, but you also get that extra little bit of information on your opponents.
There must be several ways of cutting down bandwidth. I race a lot of Nascar Heat (using roadcourse mods of course ), and in the "thin" mod I can pack over 30+ vehicles on a 1Mbit upload line. Among the usual drivers on SCORE, there are at least two on dial up, and the rest is on various speed DSL and Cable connections. Still, the racing is as smooth and accurate as anything I've seen so far.
But... I'm not complaining about LFS's netcode. It's far better than most, and it's not even finished yet
I would love to see something like DSC (Dutch Supercar Challenge), where they class cars after a BHP/Weight ratio and have really equal multiclass races for 60 minutes
GT:
Minimum weight - 1100kg - 2.5kg/bhp
SuperSport:
Minimum weight - 1025kg - 3.5kg/bhp
Sport:
Minimum weight - none - 5.5kg/bhp
It has proven to be VERY competitive in real life, so I bet it would work fairly well for LFS as well
Nice post Mr HittiS
I've been an admin for almost three years and SCORE has grown to be a pretty good home for those who like clean racing. Most regulars are very nice and always willing to help out in any way they can.
Part of the reason SCORE has become such a good place is that I've never allowed for any kind of bullshit. Another part is plain luck
So in short... People who come to SCORE and crash into other drivers on purpose, be it during the race or after, will get banned for quite some time.
There, now I've said it. If you don't like it, play somewhere else.
Actually, I haven't seen any major (if any) improvement for the FX5200 since 66.++. I might be wrong, but I don't think any of the newer drivers will do much difference on such an old card. Please correct me if I'm wrong here, cause I'd love to get some more power out of my old FX5200
Hmm... Must have hit a soft spot when calling a certain action childish. Anyway...
From the dictionary http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=simulation
-- simulation
n 1: (computer science) the technique of representing the real world by a computer program

Now, if you where slamming into an opponents car after the race is done and over with, you would probably not only be facing charges of unsportsmanlike behaviour and a lot of costs for all the damage done. You would probably allso face a life time ban from the racetracks across the globe.
If you must crash into poeple, do it on a server where it's meant to crash into each other for fun. Do not do it on the average race server.
I just started a little laid back demo league over at SCORE, using the Blackwood Rallycross track. Mostly this is to offer a "stepping stone" into LFS for all those die hard Nascar Heat fans. In any case... It seems as it will work out nice.
Tuesdays between 20:00 and Midnight CET. Welcome
Ramming into other drivers on purpose is chilish and just not fun. Those who find amusement in that sort of behaviour doesn't belong on a track, be it real or simulated.
I try my best to "live the simulation". After a race I like to cool down and bring my car back to the pits, like in real life. Getting hit during that lap is just as irritating as being hit during the race.
