How about a cheer everytime someone set a new personal best? Not to mention sets a world record
Could also be cool with sort of a word recognition system or something (if possible). Set it up to listen for certain words, and if they appear, it gives an automated response.
Example 1
Driver A spins and types a series of foul words that really don't belong there.
The program answers with some sort of clever message, stating that Driver A should take that sort of language elsewhere.
Example 2
Driver A types goodbye
program answer "welcome back"
Of course, it would be perfect if the user could set up both the words to listen for, and the responses
I'm actually quite new to LFS, only had it for a few months or so.... I have, however, been driving simulated endruance races for almost three years now
Endurance setups are really relying on your tire/fuel economy and your driving, like stated above.
I try to setup so that the inner two temp values on a tire are equal and try to balance the car so it burns the tires equal front and rear, at least on the "outside".
It does take a little tweaking, and it's not a very fast setup, and in general you will have to be a little carefull the first lap until the tires has reached a driveable temp. In return you get tires that last long, and you can probably save up to one pitstop in any 3 hour event.
Oh and to get away with this, you really have be a stable driver and drive every lap almost the same
When testing my bandwidth using a tool called TPTest, I get results in both UDP and TCP. These result (if I understood it right) can be entered into the server field that says:
Maximum Upload (kbit / sec):
But witch of the two values should I enter? The result for TCP or the result for UDP? They don't differ much, but I get a better value for UDP.
Was Great!
I will definatly come back to race with you guys. At least as long as it's about GTR cars. WAs nice and clean. Hope it stays that way for a long time! All we need now is some more people on the track!
We have raced GT type racing for almost three years on SCORE. Next year we will race Endurance event's using LFS and the GTR class cars. Both the RWD and the FWD GTR's.
I am hosting practice sessions every thursday night, starting at 20:00 CET and going on for as long as there are poeple on the server or I have to leave for work. If you like to test to race with two classes on tracks, you're most welcome
This program is really nice Thanks for making it
Will there be updates to it? If so I got some suggestions. If not, I'm happy with what I got, hehe!
--- Edit ---
I also found what may be a bug.
When ever a race is finished (someone cross the finish line), I get this message in big red letters:
InSim: ACK for unknown packet
This message is displayed over and over again untill I disconnect the program. I can, however, reconnect the program again without trouble.
I know there has been talk about adding some type of atmosphearic sounds to the game, and the idea is not mine. But I haven't seen any made, so here goes.
I converted the announcer sound from good old SCGT to .OGG format, and set the game to play music while racing. The result is not perfect, but it's something. Use if you like
IMO it doesn't matter much if the mod is good or bad, cause it tends to regulate itself
A good mod will be used and you will see a lot of it in the server listings and so on. A bad mod get's downloaded and after tested by the community it will never ever be used.
The only thing that really needs to be kept in some sort of restrain is duplicates and versions of mods (as well as tracks). SCGT has done this fairly well trough the years, with one or two exceptions. rFactor allready seems to have lost controll of it with two or three versions of mods and numerous updates to mods.
Coming most recently from the Nascar Heat modding community I think that as long as a mod project is respected and not duplicated or modified afterwords, there is no need for a council. If such things are allowed by the community, the modders will soon stop modding and you will experience the nightmare of cars that look alike but has completely different physics.
I would like to second that humble request
Weight penalties are a great way to keep the field balanced trough out a series and I would really love to see it implemented one way or the other. Since they use it in real life, it has to be a good idea, right?
Bah... The myth about Santa not existing is something created by the toy store companies to ensure a good sales each year. Stop buying presents and just believe
Yes, the .TEX files NHeat use is not the usual .TEX files you see that you can open with photoshop or PSP etc.
No, they are not impossible to hack, but... NHeat came out some time 2000 and is very soon six years old. The only .TEX viewer made during that time is a real hog to get to work, and the output is a very poor version of the original paint.
Skinning for NHeat is very similar to skinning for LFS. You start with a template, paint away and save your work when it looks ok in the 3D program. Then you go trough the extra process of converting the skin to a .TEX file and make it very hard to unpack.
Now... If I make a skin, I almost always put my country flag and my name on it somewhere. Something I like to do cause there usually are names and flags on real racecar paintjobs. I don't think anyone would like to use that skin unedited
I find myself talking a lot about Nascar Heat in this forum, hehe. But anyway... In NHeat, when you make a paint, you have to save it as an uncompressed 24bit .TGA and then use a tool to convert it to a .TEX file witch NHeat understands and can show. There is almost not way of reverse this process (makinga .TGA out of the .TEX) and it has proven to be most effective when it comes to stop people from ripping off other peoples work.
So... A one step process of encrypting the .JPG skins into LFS's version of a .TEX file witch is still downloadable and still viewable in every aspect, but not possible to reverse and load into a paint program. I bet it would take a lot of the fun away since no one (well at least no one I know) would like to drive in a paint with someone elses name on it.
If you do a quick search around the Nascar Heat and NR2003 fourms I'm sure you'll find at least a few pictures of it. Than some of the awesome painters could have a go at it from there
Hmm... Wonder why There are loads of people listed in just about every country except Sweden, Norway and Denmark? I mean, there has to be more than one in each of those countries playing LFS right?
