Quote from N I K I :what was the name of F1 simulator on AMIGA, with cockpit view and Monaco track, i think game was produced 1994. That was the one for me, dunno the name, anyone please if you know tell me
edit: I played it at 1997, with only 8 years old

It was simply called "Formula 1 Grand Prix" and it was a blast.
It was Sportscar GT that really got me hooked though.

Yes, the devs said that, but it's still going to happen among us simple end users. I am very much in love with LFS and plan to be for a long time. But why should that fact stop me from enjoying another sim? After all, it's my only chance to get my "real cars and track" fix when I feel the need for it.

I agree with delray25 that the V8 Supercar mod is one of the best things that has happened to rFactor. The only thing that could make that mod better is if it was released for LFS. I also enjoy DTM 2007, RaceX (Race - The WTCC Game conversion) and SportsCar Challenge.

So... I will continue to enjoy both sims and will not be a part of any pissing contest about which one is the better sim. They both stand on their own two feet

Quote from Vykos69 :
1. If there is prizemoney involved, would you pay a little fee for a season?
2. What type of racing would you prefer? Sprints of 30 mins, longer races? open wheel or GT racing? Or both?
3. What prizey would be needed to get you "hot" to definitely taking part in this?
4. What else could you think of?

1. I would, if the race was broadcasted.
2. 25 - 30 minute sprints in any GT/Touringcar No open wheelers for me.
3. Honor and glory would be enough.
4. Online deidcated judges and a clear set of rules.

As I understand it, there has to be a HTML page displaying things. You can not point the browser just to the directory. Only to a specific file in it.

If you make the output index page in plain old HTML, everyone should be able to read it right? Just putting the race outputs in a dir doesn't work on my web hotel (I get a 403 failure). Don't know why actually... Security reasons?

Vcom makes new (individual) filenames for races, not for best laps. So I manually link race results, but the best lap logging is fully automated now.

I have Vcom set on my server, and I have a program that automagically uploads stuff as soon as there's a change. So I created a mirror of the "Out" and "Pics" folder on my web hotel and as soon as something happens on the LFS server, the results ge uploaded.

Check out SCORE and the XR Challenge section. to see what I'm talking about. The auto uploader is called Fling and it's available on Download.com

Best of luck to you

Vcom can change track after X number of races. Is that good enough?

I use a free BBS from ProBoards. It's fast, stable and in three and a half years not one single spammer has gotten in. Ok so you don't run it from your own web server and if you want attachments and stuff you got to pay something, but if you can live without this, then I recommend www.proboards.com since it's so easy and stable.

My board here: http://score.proboards19.com first post dates back to December 21 - 2003. Before that I used EZ Board (these days it's called Yuku) but it was so spam and popup infested that it wasn't worth while keeping it. ProBoards only have a Google ad at the top that blends in really well. No popups, no hassle.

Latest version up and running on SCORE. I like the default curse.txt

About the readme.txt... It's great, I couldn't be happier with it. In the future when I ask for stuff that's already in there, please respond with a RTFM. Tested the !rotator ## function in the latest version and it seems to work just as I was asking

Thanks for your hard work on this

Thanks, I missed that part of the rotator in the doc
And yes, I would love a go at the new version, hehe. Vcom is my favourite server tool ever

Quote from Woz :For those that disagree I am willing to bet that if you were hooked up to a feedback device that that inflicted REAL pain with intensity linked to LFS impact force you would not drive as fast.

So now we need an insim app that links one of those electric chock games to LFS via the USB port? Not a bad idea really Would be even better if you could force such a device onto any and all known wreckers, hehe

Three more suggestions...

1) Option not to reset points when a driver disconnects.
2) Option to only count points when there are 5+ drivers on server.
3) A command to select which track in the rotation you want.*

* When you as admin type !rotate you go to the next track in the loop. But say you'd like to reach a track earlier in the loop. To reach that you'd have to write !rotate a lot of times, if the loop of tracks is long. Better to be able to type !rotate ## where the ## is the unique number for that track in the loop.

Thanks for the best Server tool ever. It's stable and run with no problem at all. And so much more idiot friendly than lapper

My oldest turn 8 next year. If she would like to try the rental karts, I'd be first in line to take here there. In fact, I'll take all my kids there as soon as they are old enough.

Sadly it seems to become obvious that there is a slight difference between men and women in motor racing. Take a look at current DTM. There's two of them in there right now (Vanina Ickx - Audi, Susie Stoddart - Mercedes) and they both have done one full season each, going on the second. Susie Stoddart logged a 9:th last year as a best, Vanina Ickx an 11:th place. None of them have scored any points this year either, while 16 of the 20 drivers have at least 1 point. Ok so it could be the cars, and it could be lack of founding, but if they had what it takes, I bet the manufacturers would back them because women in motorsport is and will always be, good marketing.

While I do think that women are at least as good drivers as men, I also think that it comes down to muscles and stamina at the end of a one hour stint. It would be cool to see how the racing would look if the DTM field was run by all women drivers. I bet it would be some awesome racing!

--- Edit ---
This is one more reson why I think virtual racing is so good. In Virtual Racing, those limitations are gone. Here we are talking pure skill and ability to focus

Why not try to give the XRR some better tires? It's a good car and in the right hands it performs like a dream. It only lacks tracktion and stability out of corners. So keep the weights as they are for now and instead give the XRR a few % more grip.
FZR will still be the best on most tracks since people have favoured that car since day one. That means people know it inside and out. The FXR will still have AWD and be the safest to drive on any track. But if you give the XRR the grip it needs, it might just prove to become as popular as the other two.

Long story made short...

Logitech Wingman Formula Force GP:
This is the most stubborn wheel I have ever come across and the pedals do not suffer from any of the glitches that the bigger brother has, namely failing pedals. The only thing that has gone wrong with it is the "paddle" shifters that stopped working.

Logitech MOMO (black).
This wheel served me well in almost every aspect, and I have had luck with my pedals, they have never faild (so far). The only thing that has failed is the the sequential shifter springs (on both sides), but I don't bother much because...

Making your own budget six speed or sequential shifter:
Take a joystick (almost any flavour will do) and mix it together with a program called "Joy2Key 3.7.9". This will allow you to map anything to any axis on any wheel, button or joystick on any controller connected to the PC, which in reality means "You got anything you like as long as you got mappings for it".

The bottom line? Get a Logitech Wingman FF or MOMO + any Joystick + Joy2key 3.7.9 = Better than most out there for less than half the price.
