I play guitar and used to do it for a living when I was in my twenties something. Also fair with a bass and drums.

Not free, but Cam2Pan is the best I've tried so far. Posted about it in this thread:

TrackIR + HMD?

Ok, we all know TrackIR and now with the latest test patch, we got 6DOS in LFS. But I still think it is a little "wrong" to turn the head and at the same time glanse at the screen. So my question is, will TrackIR work in the way I hope with a HMD (Head Mounted Display)? Has anyone tried this, cause I'm not likely to spend $250 (cheapest I could find) on a HMD unless it's guaranteed to work.

If it does work it might just become the ultimate VR experience, hehe

From the statistics I get from my own site, I'd say go for 1024. I got under 2% of the visitors coming in with 800 resolution, and about 25% coming in on 1280. Majority is using 1024 and if you run a fixed width, that will look ok on a 1280+ setup as well.

--- edit ---
I myself use 1280 on a 19" flatscreen monitor and I think it's a very ok resolution.

Quote from Scawen :IWe've never claimed to be fast and development will always be slower than it was in the early days, as the standard is higher now.

Please forgive us for being impatient. We are all just simple sim racers, curious about what's cooking. We are fairly easy to please though. A picture here, a snippet of text there. Something to talk about to keep our heads from spinning while we are not racing.
Development can be as slow or as fast as you guys like, and we understand that (well, most of us do), but we still like that tiny teaser every now and then. It keeps us calm and it keeps us away from thoughts like "Is he modeling Space Ships" and "Is the entire LFS project going down the drain".

So... In all honesty, I suggest that for our peace of mind as well as yours, we get a glimpse of one of those new interiors. Or even half a new interior is fine, if you promise to post the otehr half in a week or so

For just those reasons Becky mentioned, I wish that we at least could be allowed to put third party tracks in game. I am more than happy with the cars as they are now, but a track location or two right now, would really make me happy for a long time to come.

I know, I know... This topic has been discussed over and over again and the answer is always the same, but I can't help wondering how it would feel to throw the GTR's onto Spa Francorchamps (Stavelot?) or Monza (Brianza?), for copyright reasons created under alternative names.

Try ProBoards. Been using one for a long time now and I have yet to see any unscheduled downtime. Very good and free service.

Just finished watching the A1GP Feature Race from Shanghai (Late I know). No one in their right mind can say that it wasn't exciting. Ok so they don't drive F1 machines and ok, there's not nearly the same money involved, but the racing was so much better than anything F1 could ever produce.
And it is the racing it's all about right? Cause I couldn't care less about the circus around it all, as long as the racing is tight and exciting.

So someone really had to post a link to this? Now my wife looks at me as she's willing to file a divorce at any given moment, my kids look at an wonder what's wrong with dad, and if I don't get any sleep any time soon I will probably not make it to work.

Ok, I've been at it since my last post and I messed around with the TBO cars.

As per the DSC, I established a minimum weight for all three cars, 1300Kg. I then restricted the air intake to give them the same horsepower to weight ratio, 180bhp/ton. South City Classic was chosen for this test.

Best lap: - Race Time (3laps):
XRT: 55:82 - 2:55,79
FXO: 54:65 - 2:52,38
RB4: 55:82 - 2:56,70

I should also tell you that I usually don't drive the FXO that much since it's not a favourite car. It still ace this test by more than a second faster laptime. The above is the best times after driving 5 races each in each car to give them all an honest run. FXO is still to bleeding fast compared to the other two. Should also be said that I'm not teh fastest driver in the world, but I'm usually very consistant.

I have not thested this as turough (spelling?) as I would like, but the main goal with this sim should be to simulate reality, right? And so, handicaps and balancing should work as they do in real life, right? Well then...
Has anyone watched the system used by Dutch Supercar Challenge? They use a simple horsepower to weight system to balance out the cars within the classes, and it seems to work like a charm. No complaints what so ever about that system for several seasons now.

If I do the same in the GTR class, and balance out all three cars so they get the same horsepower to weight, I still end up with an FZR that is fast, an FXR that is stable and slow, and an XRR that is still the underdog cause of lower top speed and its handling. This leads me to think that something is missing in the current physics model, or something is plainly wrong.

I'm off now to try the same with the TBO class.

I have always stayed far away from any kind of Formula car racing. I just don't like open wheel cars. Having said that, A1GP is the one forumla car series that actaully gets my attention. I like the format and I like the cars.
Other than that, I follow most Touring, SuperTouring and GT racing on the planet, but this years favourites so far has to be SuperV8 and SCCA Speed World Challenge.

Quote from DodgeRacer :i actually worked/played with heat up until 04, IRF was the shit

IRF was your baby? I never got it to work, but many in the oval community praised it a lot, and I can understand why. Heat needs another tool like that to connect racers these days.

Quote from DodgeRacer :as one of the modders of the nr2k3 modding community, i supported them the whole way through.

Well you must be one of the few. One of the more advanced modders was going to court for crying out loud. And for what? Modding the sim so it could support another form of racing. That has been done since Sportscar GT hit the shelfs and is part of what modders do.
That's no way to treat the community that supports your sim. They will never have my money.

I can't believe you seriously consider supporting a company that fracked over an entire modding community? Ok, so they changed their name from First to iRacing, but that doesn't fool anyone. Or does it?

Quote from DodgeRacer :I'm still a diehard nascar 2003 player, mostly road course racing though. I own/run a site dedicated to track making for it and thats what really keeps me interested, I really enjoy that part.

And what about Nascar Heat, and especially mods for it. That sim keeps me just as busy as LFS does. And it's a heck of a lot better than anything coming from EA

I don't hate rFactor. In fact, I think the entire idea of rFactor is great. Release a working mod platform. They hoped that rFactor might just be the next Sportscar GT.
I am however very disapointed in the mod community. There are a a precious few mods for rFactor that stands out as quality, but the most is plain and utter crap.
If the modders get their act together and stop rushing out their projects and then infest the community with patches here and there, it could become so much better.

Quote from tristancliffe :That's opening it through 7-zip. Have you tried just double clicking the exe?

No, that's what I get when double clicking the .EXE.

Quote from AndroidXP :Good call, but I just tried it and I can open the exe files even with 7zip itself, so it's really something on his system screwing up

Well I installed the latest 7-Zip and tried to open it with the program, but I do get the same message then.

The file I get when downloading is 2 189 201 bytes (2.08Mb) big, is this right?

--- edit ---
maybe we should have a 7-Zip troubles spinoff thread instead of clogging up the patch thread?
