Yeah, £24 is equal to 332 Sweden Kronor (SEK) which is at least 40% less than the price of any other game or simulation. Just compare ot the price of GTL or GTR2. And LFS is worth every penny

Quote from neilmichaelcasey :Hi - Just tried installing patch and I'm getting an error with the Extraction.

I Click the LFS-V2.exe File & an 'Extract to' box comes up, then Click Extract & getting error '7-zip' diagnostic message >> LFS-V2.exe is not supported archive.

Hmmmm - Am i missing something, could it be an associations issue? THX.

I get the same message, and I've tried all the hind and tips given in this thread. Would be helpful if the files could be distributed like proper .ZIP or .RAR files

About time too
I really feel Captain Slow and the Hamster should start to take up a little more room in Top Gear than they presently do.

I'm careful and always struggle to keep the XR series cars on the ground and under controll. This does not make me the fastest driver in the bunch, but I am pretty damn consistant.
I really hate to get hit or even nudged in the rear and I try my best not to do it to anyone else. I rather plant my car in the fence or in the sand.

I'm sure that I could manage with just a tiny bit of help and some nudges in the right direction. Anyway... This server utility promises a lot of good options

Sounds like a great tool. I expect it to work with both a dedicated as well as with a non dedicated server, yes?

How about a feature that logs the users stats? Let me explain...
I run the server for 24 hours, UFR and Blackwood GP selected. The next 24 hours I switch to the XFR and only want those who made at least 5 podiums from the previous day to be allowed in. Possible? Please say yes

Unless there are physics parameters in the track that will change drasticly in a future update, I see no reason why mod teams couldn't be allowed to make tracks for LFS. All those real life tracks made for just about every other sim has not been payed royalty money for, becuase modders have made them and released them for free.

I really would like to have the classics in LFS. It would bring so much life into this wonderful sim. Just imagine Spa Francorchamps and a field of GTR's blasting trough Eau Rouge... Think about the feeling of bringing the STCC series to tracks featured in WTCC (IRL that is). And what about Nürburgring, with the Nordschleife?

Please...

No, LFS is not getting old. It isn't even finished yet (as some have said before).

But... Allthough there are those who claim third party content aren't needed, I must disagree. Just about every sim and game that has been successfull and lived long and prosper, has done so, thanks to the mods.
SCGT would never have been what it is without the modders. Same goes for GPL, NR2003, Nascar Heat and... Well the list is long.

I can understand why our beloved developers don't want to release the secrets of making stuff for this sim yet, but I also think that they should consider it. Simply because mods are what keeps a game or a sim going. It's what makes an old game feel new (or at least newer).

Let us at least have the possibility to make tracks. A new track to explore in the GTR's would be great. I would absolutely love to blast around Spa in the XRR with my favourite Lister Storm paint on it.

For those who worry about quality, well that's easy really. This community is full of respect for the developers. If they say "No, it's not good enough", then I'm sure the modder who made the track will try to do a better work before releasing it to the public.

I actually think this is a good idea that should be considered. If not now, at least very soon.

Quote from ajp71 :In general I feel your article was informative and importantly unbiased, whilst I agreed with all of it and you did put both sides of the argument across most of the time I feel there were a few unjustified comments about rF being an inferior sim, if you're going to make that kind of comment I think it should really be properly explained, which wouldn't be too hard TBH.

That's why I frased is as I did, not having to go down that road

...are many that would make the assertion-and take it to their grave-that ISI copied many of the smart solutions from Live For Speed, and implemented them in an inferior simulation.

I remeber the discussion on RSC forums back when ISI released the multiplayer demo of rFactor, and one strong opinion was that ISI ripped of some of the good stuff. I'm not going to take sides in that discussion since I actually think there's room for both sims, and I own and drive them both.

About racecast though... That is based on my own experience

Quote from ajp71 :and the way that the first article just blindly glorified LFS without pointing out the weak spots just made it seem like any other article.

Did you actually read the entire article or didyou stop half way? I absolutley point out some of the not so good stuff in the present version of LFS, like the lack of anything you can call an AI.
I also point out that in my personal opinion, the lack of modability is a major drawback. I know that opinion is not shared by everyone, but for me, it's "not a good thing".

So you see, even though I find LFS is one of the best sims ever created, I still think it has flaws and I'm not affraid to say so.

I personally love the tracks in LFS. They have all the things that make up good tracks, and I couldn't have asked for more variety. It's all there, thank you.

But... I'm basically a league admin. I started SCORE with the single purpose to run leagues which simulated what the real drivers do in real life. I've run several series on SCORE with the same tracks, on the same dates, with the same cars as they do in real life.
FIA-GT and ALMS, have done them both. ETCC, sure, it was a blast. Last year, we had a super huge series (22 races) with combined FIA-GT and ALMS schedules, plus the two classics, Daytona 24 and LeMans 24. You see, people like me (and there are a few) like the feeling of being "there".

So... While the track that ships with LFS are some of the best I've ever seen, they can never deliver the feeling of being there, which means I can not create a FIA-GT or WTCC series. And it all comes down to the tracks. The cars are not that important, since I've seen cars painted like everything from Renaault 5's to Aston Martin DBR 9's. Beautifully done, I might add.

So... Please, let modders do tracks at least. No way no one could argue with that if they are released for free by third party modders. And those who think that quality might suffer from this, well that's easy solved, really. No track gets released until the dev's have OK'd it. I see the community respect their wishes now, and I don't think that would change with tracks.

Wow... I go to work, come home, get a little sleep and come back to this
Well... I am (as some know) the writer Magnus Tellbom, and as you can see, I do have a proper license I'm very pleased you liked the little thing I wrote about LFS for this month. There will be more, I promise. Don't know in what shape or form, but it will be there.

Now... Please put any and all hard feelings away and go do some racing

Quote from danowat :Ok, it ain't never gonna happen, just a thought..........

On to this months ASS, I think I am going to give up at page 19, after a good article about LFS by Magnus Tellbom, I turn to an article about rF, Magnus, quite rightly, stated that LFS netcode is arguably the best around, and having tried various sims, I agree, but according to page 19, and I para-phrase, "Here at autosimsport, though, we were immediately convinced that rFactor's slogan-the future of race simulation-was a pretty accurate way to describe image space incorporated's new product: with a online code unmatched by any other sim (and still by far the market leader to this day).

Total and utter ballplop

You have to realize that the LFS where written by a "freelance" writer, while the other where written by ASS regular staff. Hence the difference

I haven't read trough this entire tread cause I'm a bit short on time. But here goes...

Most articles in ASS are about mods for sims. Mods for rFactor, mods for NR2003, mods for Nascar Heat etc. There is also coverage of any new releases made, like official patches and so on.

The problem as I see it is finding things to write about for LFS. Sure, there are the occasional new idea like the STCC servers and the leagues etc. which for sure deserves to be mentioned, but in the long run, the new releases is what you'd like to write and read about.

And since no one on ASS staff is that connected in LFS, there's not much to write about. If someone from this community would start to write, the articles would most probably make the magazine. So start writing and sending in stuff

Quote from Gunn :Well they do pay, not sure how much and I'm not sure how heavily they will edit your work.

Do they really?
No, not really. Not yet anyway

There will be a little something about LFS in this issue of ASS, but the problem as I see it is the lack of "new stuff" to write about. In the end, it all comes down to mods. Almost all the other stuff written about, is regarding mods for the sims, not the sims themselfs. If there wasn't any mods released for NASCAR Heat, I could stop writing about it right away, cause there simply wouldn't be anything to write about. Same goes for rFactor, GTR, Race and so on and so on. No mods, no news.

So many oldies to chose from, but as soon as this topic comes up I always seem to remember two games that really got me sitting down for several hours at a time.

Elite and Flashback! Super games both of them and I still wish someone would make them runable on modern OS and computers.

I suddenly find I can't get logged in to LFS Desktop. I am allowing cookies from the site and javascript is enabled. I was logged in some days ago, but as of yesterday I can't in there. Anyone else has these problems?

I've tried deleting cookies entirely, with no success at all...
I am using IE 6.0.2900 / WinXP (MCE) / SP2.

Do your part and wrap plastic film (the type you put over food and stuff) around the camera(s) in your area. Or smudge the lens with vaseline. The camera will still work and it'll still flash and all that, but the pictures will be useless. The best part is that it looks unharmed.
